[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]She wanted him to walk.... right now? What did he care about shade when his skin already felt like it was going to melt off? What good would shade do? His brain was, of course, fuzzed by the hum of pain rolling through him. He knew that. But he still didn't want to move. Squinting up to Zee, he gave her a look that said exactly what he was thinking. His mouth was still pulled into a sour grin, and his hands hovered around his ankle as if he could perform some sort of magic to make it feel better. The fact that it was already blistering was probably a terrible sign... Right. Zee. She was just stubborn enough that if she thought this was the best course of action, she wasn't likely to give up anytime soon. She looked a little like a statue with how she stood, waiting to help him up. A beautiful, righteous statue (thanks brain for throwing emotion into the mix). With a heavy sigh, Jaron finally relented and gave her a hand. He was embarrassed at how much of his weight she had to take just to get him up, considering putting any on his burnt leg - even though it'd just been his ankle - stretched the skin enough to make him feel like he was being filleted. And she wanted him to actually make strides... Each step pulled a new grunt from him. Never before had he been so thankful for Zee's height; just then she was the perfect crutch. He was also halfways wrapped around her while she helped him to the shade, which nearly caused him to react despite the pain. Thankfully, his body was a little too preoccupied with his sizzling flesh to mount any sort of... unwelcome response to her. Even if it was only unwelcome because doing any of the things he wanted to do with her would hurt him further. Get your shit together, he scolded himself as she helped lower him to the ground, noticing immediately how much better it felt to have the sun off his wound. "K," he sighed as she went off to do... Whatever it is she was doing. Leaning back against the little tree, Jaron curled his good leg up and left the other one outstretched. This would've been the life, if his ankle wasn't-..... Turning purple. Eyes widening, he gawked openly but didn't dare touch it. "Please tell me that discoloration is from the tar," he panicked, pointing at his ankle the moment Zee returned. When she reached for it, he nearly kicked her in the face by pure reflex. It hurt damnit, why did it need touching?! By some grace of Yaveh, he managed to stay mostly still once he realized what she was doing, and sighed a shaky breath when the cool water took away the worst of the sting. Melting, he slumped against the trunk and closed his eyes. "Sure, sure.. Medic. But can we maybe... Stay here for a little while first? That feels really good," aron admitted, and waved a hand in her direction to motion for her to sit beside him. "Tell me something about you I don't know," he nudged. "Distract me."[attr="class","cred"]MADE BY VEL OF WW + GS[googlefont=Oswald][newclass=.sinmain2]width:380px;background-color:#fcfcfc;padding:60px;border:solid 1px #ddd;[/newclass] [newclass=.sinlyrics]font-family:georgia;font-size:26px;color:#9a2a29;text-transform:uppercase;letter-spacing:3px;margin-top:10px;text-align:center;[/newclass][newclass=.sinlyrics2]font-family:Oswald;font-size:38px;font-weight:400;color:#333;text-transform:uppercase;margin-top:-25px;text-align:center;[/newclass][newclass=.sintag2]padding:10px 20px 0px 10px;font-family:verdana;font-size:9px;letter-spacing:1px;color:#666;text-align:center;[/newclass][newclass=.sin2]background-color:#fcfcfc;[/newclass] [newclass=.sinbody2]margin-top: 5px;width: 370px; text-align: justify; font-family: verdana; font-size: 10px; line-height: 15px;color:#333;[/newclass][newclass=.cred]text-align:center;font-size:6pt;color:rgb(132, 132, 132);letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;margin-top:5px;[/newclass][newclass=.cred a]color:rgb(132, 132, 132);font-size:6pt;letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;[/newclass]

HEAVEN WON'T HELP US NOW but it's better this way, warm light wash me away
Zee wasn't sure why Jaron's ankle would be turning purple, but it was oddly fascinating. Her eyes widened as she stared at it. She'd burned herself bad enough before that she'd gotten blisters, but her skin hadn't turned purple like his was. So... maybe it was from the tar. "I don't know." She admitted, which she knew wouldn't bring Jaron any kind of relief or comfort, but it was the truth. "I'm not a medic." But she didn't think it turning colors could mean anything good.
"Hey!" Came her surprised shout when Jaron kicked at her. Luckily her hands were already near his ankle so she was able to block it from hitting her in the face, which would have been both painful and gross because feet were disgusting. Zee frowned as she wrapped her wet shirt around Jaron's ankle. "I really think we need to get to a medic soon." She said. "And ... I know it hurts to walk on it." She could tell just from how much of his weight she had to support on the walk to the shade. "But she probably has something that can make it feel better. Probably burn cream ... or something." Again, she wasn't a medic, but she was confident that the one in Exurbia would have something to ease whatever pain and discomfort Jaron would be feeling.
But he didn't seem that interested in making the trip to Exurbia to see the medic. It made her sigh and roll her eyes, but there was no way she could manhandle Jaron and force him to walk if he didn't want to. So when he motioned for her to sit next to him she obliged, but his next request had her raising an eyebrow. Something he didn't know about her? She thought that she was pretty much an open book.
"Uhh..." She thought for a minute. "How about this. I'll tell you two true things about me and a lie and you guess which one is the lie." That should be distraction enough from his ankle because then he would actually have to think. Zee tilted her head back against tree they were sitting under and stared up at the branches as she thought. "Okay. Both of my parents died." Easy, she'd told him that forever ago when they were swimming. "INever ever, in my entire life, have I ever been to a concert." Her head dropped and she looked at Jaron. "And you were my first kiss." That ought to distract him. "So ... which one is the lie?"

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]Jaron groaned and dropped his head back against the tree as Zee completely did not hide her reaction to his ankle's discoloration. Yaveh, it was fucked, wasn't it? He was going to lose his foot or something. It was going to burn right off. Alright, that was an exaggeration. But right now, that seemed like the better option. He would be amazed if the big strip of burn didn't turn into one giant, cohesive welt by the end of the day. And then what? Was that something you poked and drained? Just the thought had him wincing all over again. Whatever the end result, Jaron would not be having a good time for the next few days at the very least, possibly extended longer. "Mmf, sorry," he grunted, forcing his leg into stillness. At her prodding, he raised an eyebrow and looked at her flatly. "If I wanted your opinion, I would have asked for it," he said, tone dry, though he did smirk when she looked at him. "Like with the color of my ankle." When she relented and came to rest beside him, Jaron immediately bent to the side and tried to rest his head on her shoulder... But she was far too short, and it only left him with a cramping neck and a frown on his face. "Be taller, please," he joked, and straightened. "Ooh, I'm good at these games. Give it your best shot," he replied, suddenly brighter, and listened intently. His face gave away how much the cogs were turning, but that was okay. It took his mind off his damn ankle, and that's all that mattered. ...Until she threw in the kiss. Eyes narrowing, he had to force himself not to turn and look at her. It hadn't been all that long since her stinging rejection (which honestly hadn't been that bad, but with her "friends only" ultimatum it was pretty much pure torture to remind him they'd been anything but). She'd definitely call him on the switch, but he grinned, characteristically of his Leo façade, and chuckled. "That's easy," he said, forcing himself to appear relaxed, "You're too much of a good girl to have had boyfriends and go to concerts, so the only logical answer is that you've been to a concert before." At this, his head lolled to the side, and he kept smirking only by pure grit. It was a dick remark and he knew it, but he also secretly hoped she'd never done anything, even as innocent as kissing, because he wanted to have her all to himself. He was such an idiot. HEAVEN WON'T HELP US NOW but it's better this way, warm light wash me away
"Don't be an ass." Zee huffed at Jaron's remark. "I'm just worried." She didn't know much about first aid, but she did know that if any of the blisters popped it would be an open invitation for infection. And infections on a planet where they didn't have any good medical technology would be horrible. Jaron could lose his foot or his leg and it would be like, she didn't know ... the Civil War all over again where doctors just started hacking off limbs to try and fight off infection. They'd have to start getting wood workers to whittle wooden legs so people could walk around and ... She shook her head, effectively cutting off that train of thought. She was probably getting way ahead of herself.
"Sorry, I would be taller if I could. But I can't so you're stuck with me exactly how I am." At least she'd been the pertect size for him to use as a crutch. "I can scoot over a little bit if you want." She offered. "You can lay down and rest your head on my leg." And then she could play with his hair, which would probably also help him forget about his ankle, though if he was anything like her he'd go right to sleep.
Jaron seemed to focus more on the game she had suggested and actually seemed overly confident in his answer. It made her raise her eyebrows and wonder if Jaron really thought she was as innocent as he made her out to be. It was funny and a little bit sad that he would think that she'd never been kissed. "Is that your final answer?" she asked, waited for a second, then answered. "I have never been to a concert." Zee finally answered. "Okay, next one. I'll make this one easier for you." She took the opportunity to lean against Jaron, her head resting on his shoulder because unlike her he wasn't too short. "Hmm. I never traveled outside of the United States. I have never been drunk. And I helped rob a bank." She grinned to herself because the lie was obvious, but she had said she was going to make it easier on Jaron.

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]She was worried. Jaron smiled genuinely, said, "I know. It's cute," and then promptly wanted to die. She wasn't cute. She wasn't anything. She was just... Zee. His friend by coincidence. His brow raised when he saw her shaking her head while examining his ankle, eyes going a little wide. There was something she was thinking that she wasn't telling him, he'd bet money on it. But whatever it was, she didn't like it - so he wasn't going to ask. Nope, he could find out on his own later, maybe. He didn't need to be panicking any more right now. "...stuck with me exactly as I am." "Ugh, so terrible," he mockingly complained as he straightened. The funny thing was that he usually didn't go for the petite ones; he wanted someone he wasn't going to accidentally break. But Zee was nothing if not resilient, so fragility had never been something he worried about with her. Just one more thing to confuse him about this... whatever they had. Friendship, dumbass. You have friendship. Her offer had him pivoting towards her, face going blank so it wouldn't be completely obvious what he thought about laying on her. One, that meant he would have to move around and probably stretch the ruined skin of his ankle. Two, that meant they'd be touching for an extended period of time, which never ended well for the infrastructure of their "friendship". "Uh.. I'm good," he choked awkwardly, and made a point of making himself comfortable against the tree so she wouldn't feel the need to insist. "Mhm, sure is," he said, faking self-assurance so his hopefulness wouldn't show through. Did he really want to be her first kiss, though? He was scum, the bottom of the barrel, low man on the totem pole. He plowed through women because they let him, did so many drugs back on Earth that on any given day there was a good chance he'd forgotten his name. In summary: he didn't deserve her. Even so, he frowned when she revealed the real lie. She changed position, and he breathed her in involuntarily. He closed his eyes in something he thought was anguish, ankle completely forgotten. Life was 100% not fair. "You're definitely wily enough to rob a bank, so that's probably true. But since you're such a wild child, that means you've definitely been drunk before." He drew out the words because he was talking slowly, mind more focused on the tightness in his chest than the game. He knew the real answer, because Zee was far too sweet to have robbed a bank, but casting her in a wicked light was better for his psyche. "My turn," he started suddenly, opening his eyes and honing in on the horizon. "Let me think...." His left hand tapped his chin (because moving his right would jar her). "My father was my role model, my first audition was before my fifth birthday, and my English is only as good as it is because it was better for PR."[attr="class","cred"]MADE BY VEL OF WW + GS[googlefont=Oswald][newclass=.sinmain2]width:380px;background-color:#fcfcfc;padding:60px;border:solid 1px #ddd;[/newclass] [newclass=.sinlyrics]font-family:georgia;font-size:26px;color:#9a2a29;text-transform:uppercase;letter-spacing:3px;margin-top:10px;text-align:center;[/newclass][newclass=.sinlyrics2]font-family:Oswald;font-size:38px;font-weight:400;color:#333;text-transform:uppercase;margin-top:-25px;text-align:center;[/newclass][newclass=.sintag2]padding:10px 20px 0px 10px;font-family:verdana;font-size:9px;letter-spacing:1px;color:#666;text-align:center;[/newclass][newclass=.sin2]background-color:#fcfcfc;[/newclass] [newclass=.sinbody2]margin-top: 5px;width: 370px; text-align: justify; font-family: verdana; font-size: 10px; line-height: 15px;color:#333;[/newclass][newclass=.cred]text-align:center;font-size:6pt;color:rgb(132, 132, 132);letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;margin-top:5px;[/newclass][newclass=.cred a]color:rgb(132, 132, 132);font-size:6pt;letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;[/newclass]

HEAVEN WON'T HELP US NOW but it's better this way, warm light wash me away
Sitting there leaning against Jaron in the shade of the tree was actually pretty comfortable as long as she didn't think about his ankle and the fact that they needed to get to a medic .... all the way back in Exurbia. Zee tilted her head a bit to peek up at Jaron when he started to talk through his answers about what her truths were and what the lie was. She'd assumed that he would automatically scoff and tell her that she'd never robbed a bank, so when he said she was wily enough to her eyebrows rose. Seriously? Her? Wily enough to rob a bank?
"Wild child?" She repeated, giggling to herself. As soon as she had been old enough to work on Earth she'd gotten a job and had spent most of her time working. When she wasn't in school she was either at work or asleep, so there had been no time for her to go to concerts or go bar hopping with friends. "Hate to disappoint you, but my lie was that I helped rob a bank. Which means that I've never, ever been drunk." Either he really thought she was more exciting then she was or he was enjoying cultivating a bad girl image of her.
She nodded when Jaron said that it was his turn and she was silent when he presented her with his options. She really couldn't remember him ever talking about either one of his parents, so there was no way for her to know one way or the other if his father was his role model. It made sense, to her, that he would have gone to auditions at a young age because of the whole celebrity thing. Then there was the English thing. "The PR thing makes sense." Zee commented. "And so does the audition..." So that left her with the father option, which was a little weird because she didn't want to offend him or anything of the sort by guessing that he was lying about his father being his role model. Some people were crazy defensive when it came to family.
"Uhh." She frowned. "I don't know..." She peeked up at Jaron again before finally guessing. "You didn't go to your first audition before you were five." Even though her gut instinct was telling her that she should have guessed about his father. "Okay, I'll go again. I've only had one serious boyfriend. I was homeless for a few months. And..." I lied when I said I wanted to just be friends, but she bit her tongue before the words could be given any form of life. "I don't have any brothers or sisters." She said instead.

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"] "That's what I said," he defended as she giggled, a little smirk threatening the corner of his mouth. When she divulged the answer, Jaron let his face fall into blank innocence. "Oh, uhm... Yeah, same..." His eyes dodge away from her, distinctly remembering the day she most definitely caught him in the act of being drunk. ...And then what happened once they got out of the water. Making an uncomfortable sort of groan, he shifted beside her ever so slightly, and immediately regretted it when his ankle skimmed the ground. "Ack, mother!" he started, leaning down to re-wrap the sensitive flesh. Pain alleviated, he was able to return to his lazy lean beside Zee, image from the river sufficiently squashed. Alright, good to know - all he needed to undergo in order to get her off his mind was physical pain. Pleasant. "Wait.. what?" he asked, confused, as she ruled out the two truths but then guessed one of them anyway. Eyes narrowing at her, he stared at Zee for a solid five seconds before continuing, "You just said that one made sense. Why are you guessing it?" She tried to continue the game, but he wasn't about to let her get away with it. "No no no, game's paused. Explain yourself, woman." Just to prove how set he was on having this conversation, Jaron crossed his arms over his chest, and bent the leg without a burnt ankle so his foot was flat on the ground. "Right." Zee replied to the whole idea of Jaron never having been drunk. She definitely remembered finding him at the river, stark naked, singing, and totally wasted. "Zee Zee Honey Bee remembers that time you were singing in the river, naked and drunk." Jaron groaned and she figured it was because she'd brought up the river and she grinned ... until he moved and was immediately in pain.
"Be careful." She murmured as he leaned down to rewrap his ankle. Getting him back to the colony was going to be hard considering the amount of pain he seemed to be in everytime he moved his foot. There was no way she could carry or drag him back all by herself and it made her wish that she'd gotten her horse. If she had it he'd be able to lay across its back and ride all the way back to the colony. Zee sighed as Jaron leaned back once more, but she didn't voice her concerns right then because he seemed to be more focused on their little game.
"Explain yourself, woman."
Zee wanted to groan when he insisted that she explain why she picked what she had picked as the lie. "I don't know anything about your parents." She explained. "You never said anything about your father. For all I know he could have been some famous singer or musician and you decided to follow in his footsteps." She explained. "They all make sense."

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]Even though he knew she was going to call him out on it, Jaron's cheeks still flooded with color at the reminder. Not because she'd seen him naked - if anything that would help his cause - but because of how close they'd come to... Things he shouldn't be thinking about. "I know, I know," he hissed, pain tainting his voice rather than any sort of annoyance with Zee. She was doing her best to help him, even when he could tell she was anxious to get him to a medic. And she was letting him rest even though she felt the trip was urgent. It probably was, but the thought of walking that distance right now was too painful to fathom. Although, really, moving now versus moving once the welts settled and possibly hardened... Now was the better option. "I never said anything because I never knew him," Jaron divulged, head tilted back against the tree trunk to look up through the branches. The statement probably wasn't entirely true; the man had likely been around while he was a baby, but no one remembered things that young. His gaze tipped to find Zee's face, and he shrugged. "S'not a big deal, I had my mother." Snorting, his hands found his shirt and lightly wrung the material. "There's not a whole lot of lost love between us, but she still raised me." Looking back to Zee, he tried lightening the mood by bumping her shoulder. "What about you, homeless wonder? Tell me about your family." Maybe that wasn't the best road to go down, but if they were going to do this whole friends thing, then he needed something to make him think she'd be a terrible partner. Like a bunch of baggage from her past, for example (even though Jaron had plenty for both of them), or a bad drug habit (again, see: Jaron). "And then I promise I'll get up and we can go to the medic," he tried, aiming for enticement. HEAVEN WON'T HELP US NOW but it's better this way, warm light wash me away
Zee turned her head just enough to peek up at Jaron when he started to talk about his family. There wasn't much she could say about him not knowing his father. Honestly, it wasn't something that was uncommon, but it didn't make it any less sad. Parents played an important role in every child's life, and even though Zee hadn't had both of her's for long enough at least she'd had both of them.
He acted like it wasn't that big of a deal and said that he had his mother, but the way wrung his shirt in his hands made Zee suspect otherwise. She didn't call him out on it, though, and instead reached for one of Jaron's hands and held it in her own. And there it was. She was quiet for a bit, unsure of what to say because she coudn't imagine not having a good relationship with her parents when they were alive. She sighed. "For what it's worth, I think you turned out pretty great"
It came as no surprise that Jaron would ask her about her own family after talking about his own. Zee sighed again and focused her gaze on the trees in front of them. "Well, there's nothing really exciting. My mom was a middle school math teacher. I think she was a little disappointed that I didn't love math as much as she did." Zee shrugged. "I never understood how someone could enjoy math so much. She was an amazing cook, too. I swear she made the best lasagna. And my dad..." She laughed a little bit. "My dad was a detective, so a lot of the time it was just me and my mom, but I remember when he wasn't working he used to work on this old car he had. I forget what the year and model was, but I can remember insisting on helping him." She smiled to herself as the memories all came flooding back. "He had this old pair of coveralls that were way too big for me, but I would put those on and I would stay with him all day while he worked on that car. He used to call me his little grease monkey..."
Her voice trailed and she shrugged again. "After they died I lived with some relatives. I always felt like I was just a burden to them. Another mouth to feed, another kid to clothe and put through school." It wasn't something she particularly enjoyed talking about, but it was something that she couldn't change. It beat being put in the foster care system, at least. "I was sixteen when I moved in with my Uncle Bobby -- my dad's brother. I stayed with him until I was steady enough to move out on my own." And then the whole world went to shit and everyone was forced to evacuate to Petra Exterior.

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]The contact surprised him, and it showed in the way his muscles twitched as she grabbed his hand. He let her take it, though, because tearing away from her would both upset her and - if he was being honest with himself - make him sad, too. Her silence was a bit unnerving, but he let it stretch on as long as she wanted, lost in his own head. Why he chose now of all times to contemplate his family situation was beyond him, but whatever. He never let himself dwell on it, so maybe now was as good a time as any. "Thanks," Jaron sighed, subconsciously running his thumb over the back of Zee's hand. It was a comfort to have her there, and while his mind was stuck on his less-than-ideal mother, the fact that he was having this small contact with Zee eluded him. "Who does," he snorted when she mentioned not loving math, letting his head loll to the side so he could look at her. When she mentioned her dad, his brow raised in surprise. He couldn't pinpoint why, but he expected her to have a very run-of-the-mill family - the kind that ate dinner together every night and played board games once a week. Alright, so that wasn't "run of the mill", but that's what he'd pictured for her. The smile that lit her face had Jaron almost reaching for it, but he managed to remain still since she was already holding one of his hands. "I can picture that," he commented, closing his eyes a moment to visualize it. Except he didn't know her when she was little, so he just imagined her in big coveralls now, covered in grease from working on his car, and got a little turned on. Damn it all to hell... Death was a topic sure to shut down any sexual fantasies, so Jaron appreciated that Zee went there... though he felt terrible once his brain was able to unmuck itself and he realized she was still talking about her parents. He frowned intensely. "I'm sorry you have to go through that. I wish I'd known you then, I could've helped." The words spilled out before he could stop them, though if he'd given himself time to think them over, he wouldn't have changed them. When she finished her story, Jaron just sat there, cataloging everything she'd given him. He had a tendency to forget things that didn't matter to him, but this mattered a lot, and he din't want the information falling through the cracks. With a lopsided smile at Zee, he dropped his chin to his chest, huffed, and pulled his hand back so he could use it to support himself as he tried to stand. "Alright, I'll hold up my end of the bargain-," he began, grimacing as his ankle protested, "Let's get to that medic."[attr="class","cred"]MADE BY VEL OF WW + GS[googlefont=Oswald][newclass=.sinmain2]width:380px;background-color:#fcfcfc;padding:60px;border:solid 1px #ddd;[/newclass] [newclass=.sinlyrics]font-family:georgia;font-size:26px;color:#9a2a29;text-transform:uppercase;letter-spacing:3px;margin-top:10px;text-align:center;[/newclass][newclass=.sinlyrics2]font-family:Oswald;font-size:38px;font-weight:400;color:#333;text-transform:uppercase;margin-top:-25px;text-align:center;[/newclass][newclass=.sintag2]padding:10px 20px 0px 10px;font-family:verdana;font-size:9px;letter-spacing:1px;color:#666;text-align:center;[/newclass][newclass=.sin2]background-color:#fcfcfc;[/newclass] [newclass=.sinbody2]margin-top: 5px;width: 370px; text-align: justify; font-family: verdana; font-size: 10px; line-height: 15px;color:#333;[/newclass][newclass=.cred]text-align:center;font-size:6pt;color:rgb(132, 132, 132);letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;margin-top:5px;[/newclass][newclass=.cred a]color:rgb(132, 132, 132);font-size:6pt;letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;[/newclass]

HEAVEN WON'T HELP US NOW but it's better this way, warm light wash me away
Throughout her life there had been a lot of I'm sorry in regards to her parents, but sorry really didn't do anything. It didn't change the fact that they were gone, it didn't bring them back, and it didn't replace the childhood that had been stolen from her the night her parents had died. For whatever reason, though, she appreciated it coming from Jaron. "Thanks." She murmured as she squezed his hand. There wasn't much that Jaron could have done for her had he known her way back then, at least she didn't think, because they were around the same age. Children usually couldn't help themselves, let alone other children.
It was a bit bittersweet when Jaron finally decided that it was time to get up and head back to Exurbia because she'd enjoyed sitting there talking to him, but she definitely knew that they needed to get to a medic. She just wondered how long it was going to take them to make the trip back, especially having to move slower because of his injury. And she kind of doubted he'd be able to make it all the way back to Nemus on his own, which was going to open up a whole other can of worms.
Shaking the thought off, Zee pushed herself quickly to her feet then turned an held a hand out to Jaron to help him up. Just as she had done when she'd helped him to the shade, she draped one of his arms over her shoulders and wrapped her arm around his waist to help support him. "Okay, so ... just tell me when you need to rest." She said. "There's no point in pushing it and you getting hurt more." The river loomed ahead of them and Zee bit her bottom lip as she thought about it whether it would be easier for him to wade across the shallower part or swim. He didn't seem like he could move his ankle that much without it hurting and she thought that swimming would probably hurt it a lot. But ... the choice was his to make. "Do you want to try and swim across the river or wade across the shallower part?"

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]He knew sorry didn't cut it; it never did. But she seemed to appreciate it, so when she lightly squeezed his hand, Jaron squeezed back. And since she was right there, with her head so close that a breeze would blow her short hair in his face, he didn't even think before he turned to press a kiss to her crown. This of course, immediately caused him to freeze, but he tried to pull back nonchalantly, like that was totally something one friend would do for another. He prayed she wouldn't look up at him to see the flush at his cheeks. It might have just been his imagination, but he felt like Zee was a little too anxious to get up and away from him when he suggested they head back. She probably wouldn't have offered her hand to help him up, though, if she was that weirded out. With a sheepish grin, he took it and used his other hand to prop himself up on the tree and lumber to his feet. He didn't even attempt to test his weight on his bum ankle, instead leaning against Zee when she offered the aid. "Tell me if you need me to lighten up," he suggested, though he imagined she wouldn't. Pausing, he looked at her sternly. "I mean it."At her mention of the river, Jaron's brow drew together. "Uhm... I thought women were supposed to be the ones that are better with directions," he teased. Pointing with the hand that was draped around her shoulders, he pointed parallel to the river. "Exurbia is that way, sweetpea. We started on the Nemus side of the river, remember?." Chuckling, he got the insane urge to actually kiss her, so he squelched it by taking a step-hop forward. Ugh, this was going to be a long haul. "Let's hope this doesn't turn into an even greater shit show than it already has...." Wary eyes looked ahead of them. What sort of unknown shit was between them and the colony? This was another part they hadn't explored yet, though he would have liked to think that they would've seen anything crazy from the other side of the river. They'd been distracted with Dude, but still... RANDOM EVENT BECAUSE F YOU, THAT'S WHY Somewhere between your current location and Exurbia, you're halted by a roiling, bright orange/yellow semi-liquid beginning somewhere to the right (you can't see the end of it) and extending to the river at your left. Why yes, that is lava! How exciting!

HEAVEN WON'T HELP US NOW but it's better this way, warm light wash me away
Zee felt it when Jaron kissed her, but she didn't move to look at him at first, partly because a blush was already staining her cheeks, but mostly because she'd want to lean up and kiss him, which was something that friends didn't do. The longer she stayed there leaning against him the stronger that urge was. But then her thoughts shifted to his injury and the trek home and that successfully squashed the urge she'd been feeling.
Jaron was a bit heavier than she remembered, but she couldn't expect anything less with him being unable to put any kind of weight on his injured foot. He seemed to be conscious of it, so she wasn't surprised when he told her to tell him if he needed to lighten up. She rolled her eyes because she couldn't see making him try to put weight on his foot when he practically howled in pain when he moved it. She wrinkled her nose at him when he gave her his stern look. "You're cute when you're trying to be stern." She said partly because she wanted to distract him, but mostly because it was true.
She snorted when Jaron called her out on crossing the river. "BUt I don't know what's between here and Exurbia." Zee said. "I haven't explored this yet." And they'd already seen what blindly stumbling through an unexplored are had lead to. She glanced down at Jaron's ankle and frowned again. "Let's just call it a woman's intuition, but if you want to go that way we can go that way." She just hoped that there wouldn't be anything blocking them that would make their trip even longer...
"What is that?" The tiny woman asked when she saw the faint yellow-orange glow ahead of them. The closer they got the warmer the air seemed to get and then it was just hot and uncomfortable. "Oh my god. You have got to be kidding me." She stopped and stood there, supporting as much of Jaron's weight as she could. "Where the hell is it coming from?" Then she looked at Jaron. "You jinxed us."
