Weird Encounters
So, here I am in the middle of nowhere, probably the farthest place I could ever be from old Montreal. In a way, that's cool, if I consider there were times when I wanted to get as far away from my home and my family as I could. So, teenage wish-fulfillment, yaaay! At least, if i had my keyboards or guitar. I wouldn't feel so weird. Back in high school they thought I was some outer space alien, well, now they seem to be finally right.
Colette sat nearby the large field, and looked up to the alien sky. She wondered where she were actually (of course, she's read all those texts she was given about this new planet, but she was much less interested in the physical facts than the philosophical aspects of her new existence), and shook her head, letting the soft warm wind get into her long, fuzzy blonde hair. She then picked up her small tablet device she was carrying everywhere with herself since she arrived here. She wished for her old books from home. Those little darlings, my adorable friends, now they're all gone. Fortunately she had this little gadget which allowed her to store all the important music, pics, fiction and textbooks to be whenever she needs them, but it was still not the same. She longed for the touch, the feel, the smell of books, which nothing could replace. Never.
She opened the novel she was reading recently - one of her favourite books of all time, Tolstoy's Anna Karenina. How many times have you read it already? Two or three? You're addicted, Col, admit it. The young medic quickly searched for the page at which she stopped reading the previous day, and continued engulfing herself in the slowly progressing 19th century Russian story. She left her son and her husband because she felt she could be more happy with a new love. Which finally leads her to jump in front of a moving train. Life is weird. It's never been anything different. For a moment, the young Canadian wished instead of sending them on a distant planet, they'd send back everyone in the past. She could be a young princess in Tzarist Russia, who reads English novels and futile tries to mimic the trends of British aristocracy, or a bloodthirsty revolutionary in 18th century France. Viva La Revolucion! Or even some weirdo medieval witch who gets burned when she tries to explain that the Earth revolves around the Sun.
Suddenly, Col felt someone else's gaze upon her. Turning around, she noticed another person, another young woman standing nearby. Without any apparent hestitation, she looked up from her device, and turned to greet her. "Hey, you happen to be one of those strange alien artichokes they're harvesting here, by any chance?", she grinned.

HEAVEN WON'T HELP US NOW but it's better this way, warm light wash me away
When Zee had woken up that morning she hadn't really felt like venturing outside of Exurbia, which was strange for the girl. Usually she was up as soon as Sol broke the horizon and was on her way to Nemus to continue poking around the forest. There were so many things to look at and places to explore that she often spent a great deal of time there -- it definitely wasn't because a certain someone lived in Nemus and she had a greater chance of bumping into him there than anywhere else. That wasn't the reson at all.
Some of the cultivators were out and about, most of them still working on clearing the fields in preparation for when their seeds and livestock would finally arrive on one of the drop ships. Thinking about it made her wonder how the animals would react to cryo, and if Petra Exterior's natural plant life would be good for the livestock or if it would be poisonous and if the cultivators had packed hay and grains to feed them, and she wondered how the long days would affect them and then .... she realized that she was glad that she wasn't a cultivator. It was hard enough looking out for yourself on PE, having to take on the responsibility of caring for animals and plants so the colonies didn't starve to death was extremely demanding. She'd gladly stick to running around the forest and climbing trees in the name of exploration.
As she walked her gaze fell on a girl that was sitting and reading a book. She hadn't come across many people who'd had the time to sit and read since they'd been dropped on PE. It was an action that was extremely normal on Earth, but it seemed so out of place on PE. Zee hadn't realized that she was staring until the other girl looked up and spoke to her, which made her eyebrows raise. "No." She said in response to the artichoke question. "I'm obviously an alien turnip." She grinned then strode closer, dropping down to the ground next to the other girl once she reached her -- personal space be damned. "Whatcha reading?"
"SPEAK."

Weird Encounters
Colette looked at the girl as she walked closer. Alright, she was definately not an artichoke. That was good. She never actually liked artichokes. A turnip! Much better. Much much better. The girl looked about her age, and apparently she was another colonist residing here in Exurbia. The young Canadian did some medical checkups on the locals, but apparently she wasn't among those she examined yet. She didn't mind her visitor staring at her as she was reading, on the other hand, she appreciated her company, even though she really promised herself to finally get ahead in the book. She imagined a weird situation in which someone starts reading a novel on Earth, then suddenly they announce that the whole planet is gonna blow up, they displace her in some spaceship and deploy on another world. And yet, she didn't finish the novel yet, she reads the final chapters on her new homeworld, somewhere far far away among the distant stars. So much can happen within the time period of reading a novel. And that's exactly what happened to her! So awesomely weird and so awesomely poetic if one thinks about it!
"Well, that's good to hear. You know, I like turnips much better.", she replied to the girl with a friendly grin, "By the way, I'm Nicolette Blanchet. But call me Colette.", she quickly introduced herself, hoping her too friendly demanour won't scare the girl away, like it occassionally did with some people back on Earth.
She noticed the girl lurking into her virtual book, curious about what she's reading. That was not exactly the most polite behaviour imaginable, but in fact, Colette appreciated that! It was exactly something she would've done, so her visitor might be a kindred spirit of sorts. Or at least someone taking social norms just as loosely as she did, which can occassionally be frightening for more strict-minded and less extroverted people.
"Anna Karenina. Have you read it?", she said, excited about finding someone else who might possibly be interested in a 900-pages long 19th century Russian classic, "You know, she cheats her husband with a handsome military officer, then she gets pregnant, and leaves her husband and other child behind, and then finally they all get vaporized by invading saucer men from Eminiar VII.", she explained, but not sure if the girl recognized the small spice she added to the story at the end, she admitted, "Well... okay... the part about the saucer men is not actually in the story."

It was difficult to find friendly people on PE. Everyone was mostly in a rush trying to get something accomplished, so when the girl seemed okay with her little joke about being a turnip and introduced herself it made Zee grin widen. "As long as you don't try to make a stew out of me I think we'll get along just fine." She replied. "I'm Zee." She introduced herself as well then leaned a little closer so she could peek at the book thet Colette was reading.
Zee hadn't really been much of a reader on Earth , she'd always been far too busy to indulge, so when Colette said the name of the book Zee was totally clueless in regards to what it was about. "No. What's it about?" She asked, her eyes raising from the book to the other girl's face as she began to explain it. "Sounds like Days of Our Lives meets Mars Attacks." She commented thoughtfully even though she, for whatever reason, had a hard time believing that there were aliens in the book. But, then again, what did she know? She hadn't read it.
She chuckled when Colette admitted that the bit about the aliens wasn't actually in the book. "I kinda doubted that." She admitted. "So then if she doesn't get vaporized what happens?." Zee asked. "Does her lover stay with her? What happens to her husband and her other kid?"
"SPEAK."
