[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]Jaron generally didn't do well with down time... Especially the kind that was spent entirely in solitude. It was, partially, his fault - he'd gone to the Drop Point when he saw that ship careening towards the ground, but had taken one quick glance at the list and high-tailed it out of there. He hadn't seen her right away, but some part of him knew she'd be there soon (if for no reason other than her name was where his wasn't), so Jaron had taken whatever route he had to to avoid people entirely from there the entire way home. It was the childish thing to do; he could've stuck around and chatted it up with his friend, but he'd suddenly felt a little ill at the thought. It had taken a few hours of moping and another quarter-flask of Jameson for him to get his head on straight. He didn't need the ships to bring him his instruments before he started to perform; there were enough raw materials in Nemus that he could surely make something. Some sort of makeshift drum - or hell, a maraca - would've been the smartest route. Simple. But no - Jaron was a complex man, and so he'd put his efforts into something equally as difficult. He'd gathered one of the thick vines everyone had been using for rope, spent what felt like half his life cutting down a tree with one of the saws he'd been gifted from a Smith in Exurbia, and found a rock sharp enough to do some very imperfect whittling. And then he set to the task of making his very own guitar. It had taken hours - probably days, actually, but with the way they went on PE it was impossible to tell - but now, as he sat with it in his lap, he felt happy. And that was not an emotion that came easily to Jaron. He looked down at the strings, which had taken a hell of a lot of work to figure out how to place so they made a sound kind of similar to what he was used to without snapping the vine. His hand ran over the body, mostly smooth from the amount of friction he'd put on it with the stones, then slid up the neck to the nails that held the strings in "tune". It was by far not the best sounding instrument out there, but it was something he'd made, and it actually worked. Grinning, Jaron rested his head back on the trunk of the tree he and Zee had climbed together. Since their last abrupt departure, he'd been working on getting better with the whole tree thing, because it was gorgeous up here and he'd be damned if he let himself miss out on it just because he couldn't balance worth a damn. Now he sat at just about the same height as before, back to bark and legs dangling on either side of the branch. Sol was on its way down to the horizon, though he imagined there were several more hours until actual dusk - the perfect time to perform. Closing his eyes, Jaron took a deep breath, situated his hands on the guitar, and began to sing, sober, for the first time since landing. It was hard to keep track of time on PE. The days lasted so long, but when Sol was finally setting it seemed like darkness took over so quickly, but that was probably because Zee was usually rushing to get back to Exurbia. She hadn't really been paying much attention to where Sol was at in the sky until it was sinking toward the horizon and then she could have kicked herself. Nemus was a long walk away from Exurbia and she thought she might be able to make it back before nightfall. Sleeping out in the wild with whatever unknown animals inhabited the planet didn't seem like the best idea even if she would have had her machete for protection -- but she didn't ... because she was stupid and left it at home.
She was cutting through the forest on her way back to Exurbia when she heard music. it made her stop dead in her tracks and she listened to what sounded like a ... guitar? And singing. That was definitely someone's voice. Zee moved slower through the forest, careful not to make too much noise because she didn't want to interrupt the singing -- it was really nice to finally hear music again. She already suspected who it was, but she knew there was a hgh possibility that she was wrong because Jaron's name hadn't been on the list for the drop. So how could he have gotten a guitar? But maybe there was another singer on PE. Singing wasn't a talent reserved just for Jaron.
Zee followed the singing until it sounded like it was coming from the trees above her, so she looked up ... and saw him. Why did she keep running into him? She had the uncanny urge to flee -- to just run away and pretend like she hadn't even heard him singing, but at the same time she wanted to keep listening. She wanted to listen to hear if he'd sing another song after the one he was singing finished, and as she listened she wondered why he hadn't been popular in the states.
It didn't escape her that Jaron was sitting in the same tree that they had both climbed the last time they'd been together, and part of her wondered if that had some significant meaning but she squashed that thought as soon as it presented itself. The longer she stayed listening the more she started to feel like she was intruding on some private moment and should go -- especially because it was getting late. But she stupidly remained standing where she was, looking up at Jaron as he sang. As the song came to an end she finally spoke "Jaron?" and she hoped that she didn't scare him.

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]By the end of the song Jaron was smiling widely and dancing with the music as much as he could without falling out of the tree. It was such a good feeling to lose himself in music when it was just for him, and he didn't have to worry about how many seats sold or where he needed to be the next day. If he wanted, he could sleep up here. He had no one keeping track of him anyway, and as long as his instruments took their sweet time getting here, he had no obligation to perform. Maybe he should keep his makeshift guitar hidden... As the last of the chords were fading with the wind that caught them, Jaron could've sworn he heard his name. Brow furrowing, he looked around before finally looking to the ground.... But he didn't see anyone. There were enough branches that someone could've been hidden by one, he supposed, but he was in too good of a mood to go hunting for something that probably wasn't there. So, with a heavy shrug, her drummed his fingers against the guitar and thought of what he wanted to sing next. His feet swung side to side as he mulled it over. Oh, he knew. He loved playing the next song for a crowd, because the tweens fell over themselves about it. It was amusing, but it also made him feel like he was helping bring joy to their lives in some small way. They all thought he was singing to them in particular - he made a point to make eye contact any time he sang it - and while the swooning made him chuckle he loved to see the way their faces lit up. Was that weird? He hoped not. Getting his whole body into it, Jaron sung his heart out. He leaned forward, he leaned back, he kicked his feet around. He felt so light... Except for when he swung a little too far to one side and started to lose his balance. His words cut off as he righted himself, and he was laughing too hard at himself to immediately pick the song up again. Only once he caught his breath was he able to continue, settling back against the trunk to finish out the last verse. That was when he was very certain he heard someone. Brow pinching together, he took a closer look, this time swaying a little side to side to get the branches out of the way. Oh. "Hey, Zee," he called down nonchalantly, even though his stomach took a little skydive straight to the ground. He quickly shook it off, because he was high on life and he'd be damned if he was going to let her ruin it. "Any requests?" he called down, maybe a little too cheerfully. The song ended and Zee could hear Jaron moving on the branch in the tree above her and she wondered if he'd even heard her when she said his name. When he remained silent and she could hear what sounded like drumming she suspected that he hadn't and when he started singing again, she knew that he hadn't heart her. Rather than stand there and listen she sat down and rested against the tree trunk and listened. She told herself it was just going to be for this one last song, then she was going to go home before it got too dark out.
As she listened to the song she couldn't help but picture Jaron on stage singing to a crowd of people all screaming and cheering and singing along with him. She began tapping the toes of her boots together in time with the rhythm of the music that Jaron was singing. Sititng there listening to him singing it was hard not to imagine that he was singing to her, but she knew the concept was ridiculous. Why would he sing just to her? There were probably thousands of girls that thought Jaron was singing to them. And it was probably a song that he'd sung a thousand times back on Earth.
Still, it was fun to imagine even if something like that would never be true.
The sudden stop of the song made Zee look up and when he started laughing she smiled. It ... made her happy that he sounded as happy and cheerful as he did. She hoped he would stay that way because moody Jaron was really not that much fun to be around. He started singing again and she let herself get lost in the song and the sound of his voice once more.
When the song stopped for the second time Zee moved to get up so she could leave Jaron to his singing and head home, but before she could stand she heard her name. "Hey, Jaron." She called back, looking up at him as he sat on the branch above her. She was going to make an excuse, say that she was just leaving because she remembered how he hadn't wanted to sing in front of her -- but hey, he had a guitar now so no big deal, right? But he surprised her by asking if she had a request and her departure was forgotten about. "30,000 feet?"

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]Jaron wanted to ask how long she'd been sitting there, but he supposed it wasn't all that important. He'd thought he'd heard his name being called earlier, and that was before he started the second song, so... She'd probably heard at least half of the first, too. He shrugged to himself and willed away the weird pit in his stomach. If there was one thing in life he knew he was good at, it was singing - so why did singing around her make him queasy? It shouldn't. So it wouldn't. At her request, he gave her a long look. The title sounded familiar but he needed a second to place it. "Oh, Ben Rector. Got it," he confirmed, straightening on the branch to get himself situated. Just before he started, he called back down, "You coming up or just gonna hang out down there?"Clearing his throat, he positioned his hands again and closed his eyes. He had to hear the song in his head before he could play it, and from what he recalled it was mostly piano... But it was a lot of repetition, and a few chords should be able to do the trick. Jaron started playing those, getting a feel for the notes before he started to sing. "Fourteen-A, window seat, tennis shoes and faded jeans...," he began, words a little soft because the best - and most energetic - part was the chorus. It was actually a really good song, and he was surprised how well it fit their current situation. Hats off to Zee. As he neared the chorus, Jaron started strumming his guitar harder, getting into the music. "I've been better, I've been worse, I've chased after pretty girls! Seen a couple plaaces that I never thought I'd see. I've walked into harder times, I've walk ouuut the ooother side.. It seems like you end up getting what you need. Yeah lookin' down from thirty thouuusand feet.. Life's been good to me.." Once the song was over, he slouched against the tree, smiling. "Good choice," he commented quietly. Rolling his head along the bark to look over at her, he asked, "Why're you out this late?" It wasn't in any way accusing, his voice light with curiosity. Zee stared up at the tree branches after Jaron asked if she was going to climb up. The last she'd climbed the particular tree he was sitting in he'd had to give her a boost because the lowest branch had been out of her reach. She supposed she could try and if she couldn't reach she'd just have to stay sitting under the tree to listen. "Yeah, I'm coming up. Hold on a sec." She said as she got up. She brushed the leaves off of her pants as she looked up at the tree branch again. It really sucked being so short.
She had to take a running jump, and even then her fingers barely made it around the branch. Zee hung there for a second, considering whether or not it would be easier to just sit under the tree or if she really wanted to climb up there. The start of the song spurred her into motion and she grunted as she used the strength she had to haul herself up onto the branch. "Oh, geez." She muttered to herself before she continued to climb up the tree until she reached a branch close to Jaron.
She sat facing Jaron with her shoulder pressed against the tree trunk and she watched him as he sang. She looked at the guitar for the longest time, wondering how he'd come across one on PE. It looked rough and the idea that maybe he'd made it passed through her mind but ... she really couldn't imagine jaron making a guitar. It seemed like a really difficult task and if he really had made it and hadn't gotten someone else to she would be impressed.
Her thoughts about the guitar drifted away and she soon found herself singing along quietly with Jaron until the song finally ended. "Thanks." She said when he complimented her choice of song. When he asked why she was out so late she sighed and rested her head against the tree. "I'm stupid and don't pay attention to the time." She answered. "I was out .. y'know, doing my job and before I realized it..." She gestured toward Sol as it continued to sink toward the horizon. It was definitely going to be dark before she finally got back to Exurbia. "I heard you singing, though and I figured it wouldn't hurt to listen for a bit. Where'd you get that guitar?"

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]He didn't miss her voice floating along softly in the background, but didn't really acknowledge it for fear of making her self-conscious. He just continued to sing, striking the chords more easily as the song came to a close. It took him a minute afterward to focus back on Zee, eyes momentarily looking out at the horizon as Sol inched closer to it. "I already knew that," he joked, cutting her off mid-sentence. Smirking lazily, Jaron let her finish in silence, twisting to sit on the limb in the same fashion as her. The guitar slipped a little along his knees, so he held it tighter to his chest and made a mental note to shorten the strap for it. If he dropped it out of the tree after putting all that work into it.... He'd probably cry. "I made it," he answered nonchalantly, "with a lot of help from my good friend Jameson." Giving Zee a tilted smile, he looked down at his handiwork, running a hand over the wood. It was a far cry from perfect, but he was proud of himself nonetheless. Not thinking, his gaze swung back up to Zee. "Did you get something other than bullets in that Drop?" he asked, not immediately realizing his mistake, "Or did you get sick of waiting and decide to go out without your stuff?" Once Jaron's brain understood that he'd just said something that made it sound like he was stalking her, he struggled to keep a neutral expression. He wasn't - he'd actually been specifically avoiding places he thought she'd be... But even divulging that he'd paid enough attention to see her name and follow it across the page to see what it corresponded to made it sound like he cared more than he wanted to reveal did. Yaveh, he was so bad at this friend thing! "I... heh," he started, dropping his head because scratching through his hair like he wanted to do would mean dropping his guitar, "I just saw your name on the list." Even that sounded bad! He wanted to grind his face into the bark and disappear. Uuugghh.. Zee's brows rose when Jaron said that he'd made the guitar. She was definitely impressed because she hadn't imagined him to be someone that would work with his hands. Then again on a planet where they didn't have anything you had to do what you had to do. "It looks great!" she said, unable to hide the surprise in her voice. Yeah, she was definitely impressed. "So are you going to start having concerts now? Or just keep serenading girls wndering through the forest like some kind of interplanetary Don Juan?" She teased lightheartedly.
Her eyes narrowed slightly as Jaron mentioned the drop. "You were there?" she asked, not sure if she should be relieved that she hadn't seen him after ... events or insulted that he hadn't told her hi. "Uh ... no, just the bullets." She finally answered, shrugging as she did. "But there's not much I can do with them." But she didn't want to think about that because everytime she did she got annoyed. She just needed to be happy that she got something, especially when Jaron hadn't -- yeah, she'd looked to see if his name was listed, too. "But... yeah, I was tired of sitting around doing nothing. There's only so much you can do in Exurbia to keep busy. Clearing fields with the cultivators isn't exactly thrilling." She shrugged again and looked back toward the horizon
"Yeah?" She said, though she was already well aware that he'd seen her name on the list. How else would he know that she'd gotten bullets in the drop? "I had looked to see if your name was on it." She admitted, though she didn't look at Jaron because she could imagine the look he would probably give her. "I was kinda hoping you'd get one of your instruments in, but if you can make your own..." She shrugged again, then finally looked at Jaron and grinned. "Maybe next time I'll hope for the rest of my things."

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]Did she not believe him? Sure, he was a pretty face, but he could do more than just look good.. It was Jaron's turn to raise his brows at her exclamation, a surprised smile curving its way along his lips. "I dunno... It's kind of nice playing for one, but if word gets out I have the feeling the others will start being less charitable if I don't chip in." He shrugged, drumming his fingers lightly over the guitar as he thought. Though he smirked at her Don Juan comment, he in truth didn't know what she was referencing. He was worldly to a point, but that apparently had escaped his notice. "Yeah..," he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. When she continued on almost without a hitch, though, he exhaled a sigh of relief. Alright, maybe she actually wasn't that bothered by it... "Well, yeah," he chuckled. "I mean... I guess you could like.. throw them," he eyed her lithe arms, "but I doubt it would have much effect." All of two seconds later, Jaron felt the air squeezed out of him. Clearing fields with the cultivators? Had she seen him flirting with Janet? A pit formed in his stomach, and he had the distinct sensation of wanting to fall from the tree. But no! Meeting Janet was a good thing. It detracted from his strange obsession with Zephira, and clearly it had worked; he'd been able to spot her at the base of the tree and not immediately stumble all over himself or have flashbacks to all the things neither of them should want. Correction - things neither of them actually wanted. Because they were friends. His face turned back out to the place where Sol was seating itself on the mountains, but at Zee's confession his eyes shot to her. She didn't look at him, which made him glad he'd only peeked from the corner of his eye, but also told him she'd made the comment flippantly and he shouldn't put much stock behind it. He sighed lightly. Maybe he needed to go find Janet again. Or, better yet, someone else new. "Oh wow, thanks," he teased dryly, mouth pulling into a line. "Miss greedy over here.."Focus shifting back to the glowing orb in the sky, Jaron idly plucked at the strings of his guitar. "So what are you going to do now? It was really surprising to Zee that Jaron seemed unsure of whether or not he was going to start having concerts for the masses. She thought it would be a good thing, people were so stressed out over trying to get everything set up on PE that a little singing would do them some good. Yeah, a little stress relief would definitely be good for everyone. But she could imagine how concerts would put stress on Jaron. Still, it was his job and he had to do it just like she had to do hers. "I won't say a word about the guitar." She promised.
His suggestion at throwing the bullets made Zee raise an eyebrow. It was exactly what she'd said when she'd gotten the crate. Had he been close enough to hear her say itt? Or was he being just as sarcastic now as she'd been then? She scoffed and looked down at her hands. "Yeah, I'm not sure how much good that would do." She said. "Unless it was small like a squirrel. I could totally be a hunter then. Just throat bullets at 'em and knock 'em out of trees." Joking about it definitely felt better than being annoyed at getting an item that was useless without another.
Zee sighed quietly and fiddled with the hem of her shirt as she watched Sol. She knew that sitting there in the tree talking to Jaron was stupid because she needed to get home, but she couldn't bring herself to climb down right then. When it was dark and she was still trying to navigate her way back to Exurbia she was going to be berating herself the entire way. Whatever, that was a bridge that she'd cross when she got to it.
Miss greedy? The comment made Zee look back at Jaron and she put a hand over her heart. "Oh, ouch. That stings." She said, and she sniffed as if the comment had truly hurt just for the dramatics. "Okay, okay. I'll hope for you to get something in the next drop. Is that better Mister Rock Star?"
As Jaron began to pluck at the guitar strings again, Zee turned her attention back to Sol. "I dunno." She answered, though she knew Jaron was right that it would be dark before she got home. She just kept making bad decision after bad decision, didn't she? "I guess I ... could walk home in the dark." But she hated the idea because all the creepy crawlies and things that went bump in the night would be out. She hadn't even been scared of the dark on Earth, but on PE .... it terrified her. "Or ... hang out in a tree until it's daylight again. I'll figure something out." Because what other choice did she have?

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]His only response to her promise was a sidelong glance and a little smirk. Why was he concerned about performing? It's what he'd done all his life... But somehow, here without the fans that knew him and fell all over themselves just hearing about the possibility of a concert... It was daunting. Zee would cheer him on, he knew, but would the rest of PE? Jaron's chest rose and fell in a deep breath, suddenly anxious. He chuckled at her retort. "Do you have that good of aim, though?" he taunted, giving her a knowing look. He sure as shit didn't, but hey, maybe she'd been freakishly good at throwing pebbles at targets back home. Even though that was about the strangest thing to be good at... Jaron shook his head slowly, closing his eyes before looking back at the horizon. It was peaceful up here, watching as the sky changed colors. If he turned his head just a little, he couldn't see Zee in his periphery anymore... But i was actually more serene with her there. Something about sharing a thing that simple made him happy. Which was strange, considering it was Jaron. At her theatrics, he looked back to the woman in question and smirked. "Yeah, you're so injured, I can tell," he commented dryly. At the options she gave, Jaron stopped plucking at random strings and looked squarely at her. "Both of those options sound potentially fatal," he pointed out, eyeing her. It would seem that he was staring at her waiting for a better alternative, but really he was turning over the idea of telling her she could stay at his place for the night. But did he really want her knowing where he lived? No, that would be torture. And did he really want her snuggling up on his sad excuse for a bed? So much yes No. ...Was there really any other option? He sighed. Also no. "Why don't you stay at my place tonight," he offered, mostly monotone because he didn't know which end of the spectrum he wanted to be on. Being around her all goddamn night was going to be the worst torture, but this is something one friend would do for another. Biting the inside of his cheek so he'd concentrate on the pain instead of what seventy-two hours of dark with Zee would be like... Yeah that didn't help either. Swallowing, he turned to face Sol again. He needed to seem nonchalant, like he was just being a nice guy. Which, really, truly, he was... It was just the cherry on top that he was focused on. And, strangely enough, it wasn't even sexual - it was just the idea of having that much time with her. Angry at himself, he tossed his head back and hit the trunk with a solid thnk. "..Ow," he complained, rubbing where he'd hit. He only peeked at Zee out of the corner of his eye before resting his head back again, more gingerly this time, and tried his darnedest to believe that her answer didn't matter to him. "Oh sure." Zee replied easily enough when Jaron questioned her aim. "I'm the five time champ of knocking squirrels out of trees. Never missed a single one." The notion was completely ridiculous and Zee even chuckled quietly to herself about it. Champion of knocking squirrels out of trees. There had been some really weird sports on Earth, though, and ... maybe that could have been one of them.
Jaron's comment about her theatrics made her grin. She kept her hand pressed against her chest and she sighed heavily. "It's my soul, Jaron. You injured me right to my soul." Her hand dropped back to her lap and she rested her head against the tree trunk as she watched Sol. "Y'know, this is the first time I've actually watched the sunset ... uh .. solset? since I've been here. I'm usually so busy that I don't notice it." She murmured. "It's nice." Kinda made her wish she'd paid more attention to the sunsets on Earth. Oh well, that time had passed. Now she had a new planet and new sunsets that she could watch day in and day out.
Potentially fatal? Oh, definitely so. "Maybe a little bit." She agreed as she met Jaron's gaze. "But what else can I do? I have to get back home." And she was wasting more and more daylight sitting there in a tree talking about it. How stupid was that? "Besides, with the moonlight it's not ... it's not that dark." She was definitely trying to put on a brave face and psych herself up for the trek home in the dark. It wasn't going to be that bad. She could definitely do it. Nothing was going to be watching her. And nothing was going to rush out of the woods in the dark and try to eat her. Yeah. Right.
"Wait.... what?" She was pretty sure that she hadn't actually heard Jaron offer to let her stay at his place for the night. There was really no way... was there? But who was she to turn down an invite that was a hell of a lot more appealing than walking alone int he dark? But ... it definitely had its drawbacks. Like being alone in a house with Jaron in the dark for seventy-two long hours. The last time they'd hung out together they hadn't been able to keep their hands to themselves for even a couple hours. And what if he had another nightmare and tried to choke her again? But ...
"Yeah." She breathed right about the same time Jaron smacked his head against the tree. "Are you okay?" She seemed to ask him that every time she ran into him, but she wasn't going to point that out. "But. Yeah, that would be ..." amazing, wonderful, perfect "That would be great. Thanks!" It was hard to hide the relief in her voice, but wouldn't anyone be relieved not to be stuck outside in the dark on an unknown planet?

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]He snorted at her joking response, but let the train of thought die off after that. They were shooting the shit in hopes of prolonging their time together, or maybe not, Jaron didn't know. Really he had no freaking idea what they were doing, or why they were up here watching the sun set, or why he was about to offer what he was. But he did, and when she questioned him his stomach dropped. Had that been the wrong thing to say? Should he not have offered? He wanted to drag a hand down his face but resisted for the sake of not increasing the appearance of his idiocy. If his guitar hadn't been attached to him, though, he would've dropped it with how numb he suddenly felt. It was a stupid, useless sensation, and he knew he had little to no reason to feel it, but.... He sighed. This was a clusterfuck. Eyes that he hadn't realized he'd closed popped open at her breathy reply, and his hair twisted against the bark so he could look at her. "Y-," he cleared his throat, the syllable barely audible, "Yeah." She sounded... excited? Relieved? He wanted to scold himself for even assuming she'd like the idea, but then realized he should be hitting himself for an entirely different reason. She sounded thankful, like one friend grateful for another's kindness, not sultry or any other descriptor one would use for a potentially romantic encounter. Because this wasn't romantic. It wasn't now, and it wasn't going to be later. With a grin he didn't feel, Jaron leaned forward and swung his legs to one side of the branch in preparation to get down. "Well, we should probably head that way. It's probably a fifteen minute walk from here, and we probably don't have much more than that left in daylight." Looking at Zee for a long second, he sighed lightly and started his descent. He probably should've let her go first, but he just needed to get moving. At the last branch, he held the guitar snug against him with one hand and used the other to steady himself before jumping down. He took a few steps away to give Zee room, then looked up to her. "You want help?" he asked, pushing the guitar around to his back so his arms were free. Jaron's movement made her look back at him and she watched as he swung his legs to one side of the branch. That alone made her assume that it was time for them to get going and then he confirmed what she was thinking by saying that they needed to go. "Okay." She agreed.
Before she could begin her descent Jaron started, which was probably for the best. The look that he'd given her before he'd started to climb down hadn't set well with her and she needed a moment to just sit there by herself. He didn't seem too thrilled about her spending the night at his place even though he was the one that had offered so she wouldn't have to deal with any of the potentially fatal options she'd given. It was pretty sobering and made her relief at not being caught out in the dark seem less important. "If it's too much trouble I can go home." She said because she really didn't want to be there if he didn't want her to be. "It's no problem."
Zee looked down to make sure Jaron had gotten to the ground before she shifted on the branch that she was sitting on so she could climb down, too. She'd climbed up and down trees more times than she could care to remember, so when Jaron asked if she needed help her first instinct was to say no. She was pretty good at picking out the branches that weren't rotten or cracked as she made her way either up or down, but this time she was distracted. There was too much on her mind and she didn't realize how thin the branch that she'd stepped onto was as she made her way down until she felt it give under her weight. "Oh, shit!" She tried to grab onto another, but she was already falling. The palm of her hand scraped against the rough bark, but she wasn't able to hold onto it, so she squeezed her eyes shut and waited to hit the ground.

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"] "Don't be ridiculous. It's not safe," he immediately retorted, though he focused on the branches beneath him rather than looking up to her while he spoke. His words had probably been a little more succinct than he had intended, but he was trying to climb awkwardly down with his guitar bouncing every which way, and he was already questioning himself for offering her a place to sleep; he didn't need her doing the same. Once on the ground, he shifted his guitar just in time. A shower of leaves cascaded around him and Zee's very surprised "Oh, shit!" hit his ears, causing Jaron's eyes to widen and his arms to automatically shoot out. He bent at the knees to brace for impact, and momentarily forgot about self-preservation as he stepped forward to catch her before she hit the ground. The roots jutted well above the soil; that would've been extremely painful. The receive was anything but graceful - he caught her behind her neck and at the side of her knees, with her splayed comically against his chest - but at least she probably wouldn't be hurt. After several seconds of panting (apparently he was far more affected by the possibility of her being injured than he would like to admit), his mouth pulled into a line and he looked down at her. "You okay?" he asked gingerly, not budging an inch in case she wasn't. It was probably the socially acceptable thing to put her down now, but that seemed like a foolish thing to do. What if she'd twisted an ankle on the way down or, worse, broken something? No, he needed to hang onto her. At least, that's the rationalization his brain made. Carefully, he repositioned his arms so he wouldn't be cranking on her neck and her weight was more evenly distributed. "Can you walk? Or do you want me to carry you?" he breathed, only mentally kicking himself a little bit for being such a freaking sap and not using the sarcasm he'd meant to. The use of the word "want" was also shit, because he should've said "need". Regardless, he stood stock still, waiting for her to tell him to move.
