RANDOM EVENT READ & REACT Your nice day starts taking a turn toward the gloomy. Blue-gray, low-hanging clouds roll in, and the longer you stay put the more your hair is going to stand on end. For now, any metal on your person will merely shock you if touched, but if you insist on staying in the area and keeping your items, they'll pack one hell of a punch. You might also want to avoid touching the water, unless death via electrocution is your style. You have 3 posts each until the electrical storm reaches max effect. Figure out a way to ground yourself or GTFO in that time!

I told you, you couldn't keep yourself away from being close to me. He said and Riley rolled her eyes in response before replying "You like it." Because if he didn't he would have already pushed her away. Even with his whole I hate other people he was probably just as starved for human contact as she was. Or ... at least human contact that didn't require her medical skills. "Uh-uh." She hummed and pulled the cigarette away when he reached for it. "Too slow." But then he grabbed her wrist and reached with his other hand to take the cigarette away. "Cheater." She huffed, annoyed that she hadn't been able to continue on with her little game a little while longer. Her eyebrow arched as he took a deliberately slow drag of the cigarette. She watched as the paper burned and, without meaning to, she bit her lip. Damn him, that was her cigarette that he'd stolen from her -- nevermind that she'd been teasing him with it. Watching him smoke it just made her craving all the more unbearable. As he flicked the ash away her eyes moved from his face to the cigarette and he must have known that she was going to take it back from him. The sudden tug on her wrist caught her by surprise and she fell forward and ended up sprawled against Logan's chest. Riley lifted herself up just a little bit -- she ended up nose to nose with him -- and asked "Has anyone ever told you that you're an asshole?" Probably multiple people, but she needed to ask that question to ease the sudden awkward tension she felt at being pressed up against him. Thankfully -- or maybe regretfully -- PE seemed to think that they'd had enough fun for one afternoon. The sudden electrical charge in the air made the hair on her arms stand on end and that made her sit up abruptly and look at the sky. "Son of a bitch." She breathed because there had hardly been any clouds in the sky just a few minutes prior, she was sure of it. Riley scrambled to her feet and whistled for for Sam, who came running. "We have to get out of here." She said and she held a hand out to help pull Logan to his feet so he could get all of his shit together. He had so much stuff, though, that she couldn't help but assume that it would slow him down and make his escape take a little longer. She wanted to say fuck it and just get the hell out of dodge and leave him to his own devices, but ... he wasn't so bad. "Do you need me to carry anything?" She asked as she grabbed her cigarettes and lighter and stuffed them back into her pocket. "."

I couldn't Lie, couldn't lie couldn't lie Everything that kills me makes me feel alive Had anyone ever told him he was an asshole? The question had his lips quirk ever so much up. She’d called him an asshole enough times for her to know it was probably common enough. The mere presence of her sprawled over him, was a tad too distracting though. The moment he was about to response something in the sky had caught his attention. The electricity seemed to thrum in the air very abruptly. It was abnormal. The cloudless sky became vast in static, everything seeming to pulse and even the slight touch of her hand against his chest cause a shock between their skin. Damn, playtime was definitely over.
His eyes had moved away from her face to stare up at the sky, and her swear words echoed his own thoughts before he grabbed her hand and got up instantly. Pinching the end of the cigarette so the ember stopped the burning, but he did not pause as he started kicking frantically at the sand on the ground. It took less than seven seconds before there was a large enough hole that he tossed all his things into and covered quickly. Striking his eyes across to a landmark before he turned back towards Riley. His rifle, and blade were thrown in as well as his bag over top before the sand covered it. He had practice, and it took less time to cover it than it would have to pile everything back on to his shoulder. It was all metal, taking it would be suicide.
If only he had remembered any sort of landmarks around the area. If only he had actually remembered how he had gotten here. How careless he’d been, but he had not really been in a proper right of mind. Half of his thoughts were on the fact that Riley had not left him, but he couldn’t focus too much on that as his eyes scanned the area. ”Where.” Was his only response. He didn’t want to admit he had no idea where he actually was, because, that would admit loss of his own controls and he wasn’t ready to do that. Then, unsure on where they were going, he follow pursuit after Riley, and he ran like he hadn’t in a while.
Damn, this girl just brought him bad luck, didn’t she?

Riley blinked and ran a hand through her wet hair as Logan started digging in the sand. "What are you doing?" She asked impatiently, because what the hell? Was he planning on burying them both in the sand until the storm passed? But no, he threw all of his things into the hole and then covered them. Okay, that worked ... she guessed. At least they wouldn't have to haul all of his shit with them while they ran for their lives. She wasn't sure if he was asking her where they were or where they needed to go and it made her nervous because she didn't know. There was still so much of Petra Exterior that was uncharted and she was sure they just happened to be in an area that hadn't been thoroughly explored by the people who were supposed to be doing that. Riley turned, looking for a direction that they needed to go and, thankfully, her footsteps were still visible in the sand leading up to the water. "That way." She reached to grab Logan's hand and immediately jerked her hand back when she was shocked. "Come on." She hesitated, not wanting to be shocked again, before she just grabbed Logan's wrist and began pulling him after her. There was no way they'd be able to outrun a storm, and Riley knew it. As it was her legs were already burning from the strain of running through loose sand and her chest was starting to hurt. The clouds overhead were getting darker and darker, and a sudden bolt of lightning struck the ground somewhere behind them. The sudden flash of light and the deafening crack of thunder that split the air was enough to make Riley stumble and fall, but as she did she let go of Logan's wrist so she wouldn't pull him down with her. Her knees hit the ground first and her hands shot out in front of her to keep herself from faceplanting. It took a second for her to gather her wits and force herself to stand and, try as she might, she could hide the way her hands shook. "We'll never make it to the mountains.""."

I couldn't Lie, couldn't lie couldn't lie Everything that kills me makes me feel alive The lightning hit behind, stiking with such force the thunder whipped all around them. One could feel the electricity snap through their blood, and the echo of the bang of the storm seemed to entrance Logan as he ran. Running. Feet moving, swift. Fast. Not faultering even in the rough terrain of the sand. Breathing shallow but fast. His eyes focusing on following Riley, with her hand on his wrist, until suddenly it was gone. His wits were gone momentarily, flashed back to similar weather that stung at his heart. Hurt his head. He could almost hear the blood curdling screams of his men dying around him Suddenly she was no longer touching him and he watched as she stumbled forward.
Her last words echoed in his mind, and sharpness regained as he glanced at her shaking hands before looking around. Mountains were too far. Water was idiotic. Where. Where. Where. Flash. A memory. His eyes scanned the area quickly. Quicker Quicker. He’d thought for a fraction of just picking her up and tossing her over his shoulder, but that would slow them down too much. On instinct he grabbed Riley’s hand again, his grip tight enough to steady it. Ignoring the sharp sting of sparks between their skin until it passed and he booked it forward. ”Don’t fall.” Was his one statement that could barely be heard over the sudden whistling wind. The wind picking up to the point the trees looked like they could snap just from the sheer force of each gust.
He was running so fast until his eyes watched Sam who seemed to skitter ever so slightly. Logan suddenly stopped, his arm moving to block Riley from falling into him as another lightning hit the ground directly where they had been heading. Fire seemed to spark up from the ground, and it was so close the heat could be felt. Thank god for animal instinct. Pulling again he ran as fast as he could, hoping that Riley could force herself to keep up. Hoping that she didn’t fall again. And hoping to go they could get to what he hoped. Just hoped He remembered was a cave in the direction they were going. He remembered that there was, so there had to be. There just had to be. Because if there wasn’t a cave there, then what were they going to do? Where would they go?
Please let his memory be real.

All it took was that one bolt of lightning hitting the ground behind them, the thunder, and a fall for Riley to lose her hope and it was totally unlike her. She was a determined, stubborn, relentless woman who would do whatever it took to get a job done. But she couldn't handle this and she knew it. There was no way they'd be able to make it anywhere safe and instead of pissing her off as it should have and giving her the drive to make it to the mountains it just made her feel hopeless. Logan grabbed her hand and the shock made her try to jerk her hand away, but his grip was tight and he held fast. He pulled her forward and she began to run once more, silently nodding as he said not to fall. There was no way that she could promise that she wouldn't, but she would try her damndest to stay on her feet and keep running, though she wasn't sure where he was brinigng them. After all, they would never make it back to the mountains. Riley saw Sam skitter, but her mind was so fuzzed with fear of the storm and her own hopelessness, that it didn't register why he would do what he did. If Logan hadn't put his arm out to catch her when he stopped she would have fallen again, or broken the grip he had on her hand and ran directly into the bolt of lightning that hit the ground in front of them. Her breath rushed from her lungs and she squeezed Logan's hand, not even realizing that her nails were digging -- probably painfully -- into his skin. A tug on her arm had her moving forward again, toward the the treeline that marked the beginning of a forest on the far outskirts of the mountains. Maybe there was something there that could hide them. Maybe there was something there that would keep them safe. It was like PE knew her thoughts and just as she thought the word safe lightning struck a tree in front of them. The bark exploded off of it like shrapnel. A piece of it flew by Riley's face, cutting her cheek and another piece embedded itself in her arm. She kept running, hoping that Logan knew where he was leading them. "."

I couldn't Lie, couldn't lie couldn't lie Everything that kills me makes me feel alive Her nails dug into his skin, but he didn’t even feel it. The lightning hit a tree and caused it to explode, but he didn’t even flinch. Just kept running, kept pulling on Riley’s hand and tugging her along. Running as fast as he could manage. He could hear more lightning hitting the ground behind them, around them. Hell, he wouldn’t be half surprised if his gun, knife and bag of all his things was blown to pieces by the time he had a chance to return. Fuck, he didn’t even have a shirt on. Little side note, could you imagine having to walk around barechested for the rest of your life?
Get a decent tan.
Back on track.
He knew Riley was hoping he knew where he was going, but the honest truth was that Logan had absolutely no idea where he was going. His mind was whirling with many thoughts, and he was just letting his feet lead the way. That tree looked slightly familiar. Was that boulder a hint of memory? He was starting to feel the stress of it. The hopelessness just crevice to the surface when he saw it. Another bang. Another crash. His mind seemed to be pulled in two opposite directions and it was a battle within himself. The lightning sounded too familiar to war. And the panic he felt too comfortable for him to like. If it wasn’t for the nails piercing against him from her grip, who knew how easily he could have folded under the weight of everything that went around.
Fuck PE.
Then, he saw it. The bush that was large enough to act as a door, and partially cover a small hole to a cave. A cave he had no idea what was in it. A cave, unfortunately, that they would have to find out on once they got in. He tugged harder to run faster, and ignored a large falling tree that seemed to just miss all three of them. ”Get in, Down. Go.” The cave was short, definitely not big enough to stand in, but if you crouched down and crawled in it would open up a bit more. Large enough to sit or lay down, but not large enough to have a run around in. It was dark but with just enough light from the entrance. Logan had to let go of her hand for her to crouch down and get in the small cave. The release of her hand though, it felt weird after having held on so strongly.
Ignoring that thought, he glanced back before diving into the cave after her. Safe??

Riley was beginning to think that they were running in circles, even if they weren't. All the trees looked familiar. All the rocks, the bushes, the shrubs. Everything looked exactly the same and in a panic how was anyone supposed to know where they were running? How were they supposed to find their way to a safe space, or back to the beach once the storm passed? If it passed. Lightning struck all around them. Thunder made the ground feel like it was shaking under their feet. A tree fell, nearly crushing all three of them and all Riley felt was more hopeless. She was tired. Her legs hurt, her lungs burned, and she felt like giving up and accepting the fate that PE seemed to want her to. Death. They had escaped Earth and got to a planet that wanted to kill them. They were all going to die there, so what was the point of running and trying to save themselves? Get in. Down. Go.When had they stopped? Wait. "What?" Then she finally noticed the cave, but it was only after Sam ran into it to get out of the storm. She followed shortly after, the possibility that something was in it not even registering in her brain. It was small, but she hoped to god that it would be enough to keep them safe from the storm. Riley sat in the cave waiting for Logan to crawl in, and when she did she scooted closer to him. The continuous lightning strikes an the cracks of thunder that split the atmosphere left the usually capable medic a shaking mess. She reached for Logan's hand and held it tightly as she stared outside of the cave. "."

I couldn't Lie, couldn't lie couldn't lie Everything that kills me makes me feel alive Logan felt her reach for his hand, her grip strong and tight. His breathing was fast, inconsistent, but shallow, and he crept closer into the cave. He could feel her shaking. Could hear her breathing. That, mixed with the never ending thunder and the crashing of trees all around them, logan did the only thing he could think of that might help in such a situation. Without a moments hesitation, he pulled on her one hand, before his other arm moved to her waist and he pulled her into his lap. Even in the cave the static could be felt, but it was much less than when they were running away from the water. It probably didn’t help that his hair was still wet, and his pants, and her clothes.
At least they could be semi-safe here. He hadn’t had much capability in judging how thick the walls of the cave were, or the roof. There was no telling how much protection it created for them, but he was hoping it was just enough that they could survive how ever long this storm seemed to last. His one arm wrapped around Riley’s waist and pulled her back against his chest. Untangling his hand from her own, he reached and grabbed the half cigarette he had siphoned and put it to his lips. Grabbing from her pocket without much difficulty and lighting it, then, without bothering to take a drag he held it out infront of her.
One thing that could help any person that could not focus, and was shaking like she was, was nicotine. Logan couldn’t speak, and didn’t try to, he was too focused on listening to what was going on outside. His head slung forward and rested on her shoulder, trying to calm his own pounding pulse. His own shallow breathing. And the fact that he was irritated with himself that he had no idea where safety had been. Sure, he’d found it, but he was chalking that up to complete luck because it was definitely not a conscious effort.

The only thing Riley expected from Logan was that he'd let her hold onto his hand until the storm finally passed. She certainly didn't expect him to pull her into his lap or really offer any kind of comfort. He just hadn't struck her as that kind of person, and there he was making her think that she might have misjudged him .... even if he had called her a fucking bitch the first time they'd met. And attacked her when she totally didn't deserve it.When he untangled his hand from her own she had to fight the urge to reach for it again, but he distracted her by pulling her against his chest and reaching into her pocket. "What...?" But before she could finish her question he was holding a lit cigarette in front of her .... which was exactly what she needed. "Thanks." She breathed as she took it from him and brought it to her lips. She took a drag and it did help to calm her, but the unrelenting storm outside kept her on edge. The only way she'd be able to calm down completely was if the storm stopped as abruptly as it started. The cigarette didn't last nearly long enough and when it was finished she smashed the still the end of it into the cave floor to put it out. Riley turned her head to look at Logan when she felt him rest his head against her shoulder. It was then that she finally noticed just how winded he was from their headlong run to safety. Whether or not it was dumb luck or he actually knew where he was going was unknown to the medic, but she was definitely thankful that he'd kept her moving and found the cave. A strike of lightning just outside of the cave made her wince as if she'd been physically struck, herself. She turned so that she could hide her face in the crook of Logan's neck and she covered her ears with her hands in an effort to block out the storm that terrified her. "."

I couldn't Lie, couldn't lie couldn't lie Everything that kills me makes me feel alive The rumbling was not subsiding, and the crashing around them seemed to not get any better. The crackle of fire mixed with the wind whistling just feet away could easily be heard and so Logan did not fault Riley for covering her ears. He did not fault her for her own fear, as everyone had their fears. And he would not make a snide comment as she burrowed her face into the crook of his neck. Instead, he simply pulled her tight against him, lifting his face slightly and looking out at what little view he had for outside. Yeah, Logan can be a jack ass, but he wasn’t heartless and anyone who was frightened could use some form of comfort.
Logan’s free hand moved to burrow into the dogs fur, patting against his head just briefly as if in reassurance scratches. This world, this world was their safe haven from Earth and yet it seemed to fight back against their being here with everything it had. Perhaps it was what the human race needed though. Earth sure as hell didn’t fight back, and look at what happened to it over the short time they were on it. Still, it was starting to piss Logan right off. Moving his hand away from the dog, his fingers brushed through Riley’s hair, much like had had instinctively wanted to do before in her cave.
Just having someone else there had calmed him, and although he didn’t speak for a while, his eyes remained on the storm before suddenly he spoke and broke the silence. Unsure if Riley could hear him or not, but at the very least could feel the rumbling through his chest. ”You know, I really think that you bring me the best of luck. I mean, who else would I get to fight off a vesper with, get the shit beat out of me with, and have to run through an electrical storm. Actually, Not just run through, but be absolutely soaking wet at the same time.” His lips quirked upwards, trying to bring humor to a rather humorless situation in a form of distraction

The fingers brushing through her hair was a welcome distraction from the storm, but it wasn't enough for her to come out of hiding or uncover her ears. She closed her eyes and thought about her family back on Earth. She thought about her grandpa playing his guitar and singing to her when she was young. She thought about how he had tried to teach her to play the guitar. And she thought about her other grandpa baking cinnamon rolls and how, that one time she had insisted on helping him, had resulted in her being covered in flour, powdered sugar, and cinnamon. Anything to distract herself from what was going on outside of the cave. It helped a little bit. Riley could feel the rumbling in Logan's chest when he started talking and that made her uncover her ears so she could hear what he was saying. His attempt at humor elicited a humorless chuckle from the woman. They certainly had already been through a lot for only running into each other twice. And she still didn't even know what his name was. "We must be soul mates." She said, her own attempt at a little bit of humor to try and ease the tension that both --she assumed -- of them were feeling. There was nothing funny about being stuck in a cave, soaking wet, waiting for an electrical storm to wreak its havoc and dissipate. It actually made Riley think she preferred the scorch and its heat, because at least that was predictable. She knew day in and day out what was coming when daybreak came. Riley lifted her head and looked at Logan before looking at the meager view they had of the outside world. "I hate this." She whispered, referring to the storm and not the company -- which was surprisingly pleasant -- or the fact that she had someone holding her to try and comfort her. She could learn a little something from Logan's bedside manner. "."

I couldn't Lie, couldn't lie couldn't lie Everything that kills me makes me feel alive While Riley was thinking of an adorable childhood, Logan was thinking of the many nights he ran from lightning storms and tried to find shelter in any place he could. Garbage cans worked, but only if they were in high walled alleyways as they were metal. Of course, sometimes Ezra and him would get lucky and be able to hole up in some abandoned shed. Then there was the time they said fuck it and slept on a rooftop, drinking beers and watching the lightning as it seemed to get closer and closer until one of them decided it was best they should get to lower ground. Playing chicken seemed to be their strong suit between the two of them.
Too bad though. He wished he would have had a grandpa to make cinnamon buns with and be covered in flour. Well, there was that one time he got caught trying to steal a pizza and tripped over a flour container and got covered. But, that was less than ideal as it was raining outside and wet flour? Yeah no fun at all. Ezra had a good laugh at him, especially because he didn’t even get the pizza.
Logan snorted at her comment on soul mates, but did not respond. He just moved his fingers back to her hair before he heard a loud bang and then what sounded like a big snap. His arm tightened right around Riley, pulling her back as hard against him as he could before another snap happened. The lightning seemed to illuminate the entrance before abruptly a large tree fell near the entrance way of the cave, but seeming to just be a bunch of thin branches. Probably the top of the tree. Easily able to be maneuvered to get out.
Sitting ducks. That’s what he felt like. If that tree had been a bit bigger, or a big closer, who knew what could have happened. And because he needed to distract himself, whether away from the big loud scary storm outside of the fact that he didn’t necessarily mind the fact Miss redhair was in his arms, he continued to talk. Because, why not. “I do too. I’m sure it wont last long. Well, I hope. Fucking planet needs to stop trying to kill me every few weeks. It’s exhausting

Riley rested her head against Logan's shoulder when he ran his fingers through her hair again. She had always enjoyed when people played with her hair, and when she was a kid it had been the only way her grandpas could calm her down when she'd been upset. All they'd had to do was sit there and run their fingers through her hair and, eventually she'd fall asleep. Unfortunately the storm raging outside of the cave was too intense for her to calm down that much, but it certainly helped. The loud bang from outside seemed to echo inside of the cave and probably made it seem even louder than it actually was. She flinched and had to bite her lip to keep from whimpering. Her shaking came back with renewed vigor when a crash sounded outside of the cave. She looked and could see the branches from a tree -- Jesus Christ, she had no idea that lightning could knock a tree down. She just knew from recent experience that it could make the bark explode off of it. She needed something to distract her. She needed something to focus on that wasn't the lightning and the probability that they were going to die. Logan was talking again and she focused on his voice, listening to him as he said that the planet was trying to kill him. She agreed. It was definitely trying to kill all of them, which meant that they should have stayed on Earth. At least if they were going to die they could die on the planet they belonged on with all of their friends and family. She lifted her head again, still trying to figure out a way to distract both herself and Logan, but the incessant storm was making it harder and harder for her to think. What to do? How could she distract herself? She, abruptly, placed her hands on either side of Logan's face and turned his head so that he was looking at her. A flash of lightning streaked through the sky and illuminated the inside of the cave. "Your nose doesn't even look like it was ever broken.""."

I couldn't Lie, couldn't lie couldn't lie Everything that kills me makes me feel alive Was it not absolutely amusing that the first time they met he had called her a bitch, and she had pummeled his nose and now she was curled up in his arms commenting about how his nose looked perfectly fine? Was it not absolutely hilarious that the first time they met they had to fight off vicious leech things, and now had to hide away from a storm? And was it not absolutely, positively enlightening that both times they had met she had offered to share her smokes? All three situations were of equal importance. All of them. And yet, he still didn’t know her name. He called her Miss Redhead, and he really didn’t care about knowing her name. Not really. It just, never seemed important. Names, people put too much importance on just label.
The crashing. The banging. The noise that seemed to howl and echo all around them didn’t seem to dull. Shouldn’t it dull by then? He could feel her shaking again after the latest bang, and he had no idea if it was lightning that caused the tree to fell, or the wind. Or some other unknown force that PE decided right then to throw at them. One thing he knew is she was trying to distract herself from everything. Trying to focus her thoughts and ignore as everything around them tumbled and turned into a mess of a storm. The only thing that calmed him slightly was the fact that at least she wasn’t alone in the storm. Odd though, thinking such a thought. He got calm because she wasn’t alone. Not vice versa. What would have happened to her if he hadn’t been able to half drag her through it? If he hadn’t been able to focus more so on her than the memories of war that flooded his brain?
Everything was too overwhelming and she just needed to be distracted. To be able to regain her composure. To not have to think or hear about the storm that raged around them and he had no idea how to do that. His lips quirked ever so slightly, but it seemed almost forced at her comment on the fact his nose looked absolutely perfect (exaggeration a bit). So he did the only thing any sane person would do. Or perhaps that word would be insane. Adrenaline coursing through his veins, and every touch felt ever so slightly electric due to the storm so he kissed her. Kissed her so perhaps she could have something to focus on. Kissed her so that perhaps she would stop shaking. Besides, what better distraction than Logan? Cause, you know, he’s absolutely perfect. (Another exaggeration).
