In several minutes, Thea knew that she would reach that sudden high she ran for that made her feel untouchable. Even though her lungs gasped for air, she pressed on through Exurbia’s plain towards the distant river. Sometimes, she wondered if she should become an explorer. That group of badasses always had something to do, places to see, and boundaries to push. She would use her running for something more productive, but Thea knew it’d be best to consider the matter seriously after learning how to defend herself with something more threatening than her in transit small cutting knife.
C’mon, she thought to herself as her legs burned. Just a little bit farther. Thea pushed against the pain with a sprint. At last, she felt like she was running on water, and all of her problems seemed to melt away. The girl laughed a little as she flew across the field until finally, she had made it to the river and collapsed on the riverbank.
Thea stared up into the sky as her blood pulsed at her temples. How long would it take for her small cutting knife to reach the drop point? Or her beloved copper still? Someone might have a cooler she could use as a condenser, but without her still or glass jars or bags of grain, the tradesmith was completely out of luck. Her fingers twitched. What if it never arrived?
C’mon, she thought the second time that day. Don’t think like that. Thea sat up and checked her surroundings for any signs of danger. How odd it was that everything about this new planet seemed familiar to Earth but different. Was it egotistic that everyone considered PE’s animals strange? Or decided that this piece of land would be ours? After all, we’re the real aliens here, she mused, imagining the colonists with bouncy ball antennas. Thea scanned the perimeter until something shiny and in the distance caught her eye.
An alien spaceship?
The girl jogged towards the structure without hesitation, not believing what she was seeing. The structure wasn’t a spaceship but some kind of silver batmobile. “What in the world?” Thea exclaimed with disbelief. She had heard rumors that one of the colonists picked up a car from one of the drops, but she assumed it couldn’t be true. It wasn’t like there were any gas stations around, yet here it was. The car looked like something from the Terminator with its long dark windows, sleek rounded edges, and strange long design. Thea put her hands up to the driver’s window and peered in. No signs of life, but man, did those seats inside look luxurious. Thea looked around once more to see if the batmobile’s owner was around. Believing that she was alone, the girl searched for the car handle but quickly discovered there was nothing but continuous smooth metal. How do you open this thing?

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]The days were getting hotter, and Jaron took the invite to wear less clothing without hesitation. It reminded him of the days back home in Israel when he'd do concerts in the south, or when he'd travel to Australia or the southern U.S. It was a little stifling, but it wasn't anything a dip in the river couldn't fix. He was a little downstream from where he usually went, so he couldn't touch the bottom. He opted to only swim in his boxer briefs because, really, the only person who had any likelihood of passing by this way was Zee, and it wasn't anything she hadn't seen before. Plus swimming in jeans made him too heavy to make it enjoyable. He'd recently risked opening his eyes underwater; he didn't originally because he didn't know if there was some alien fungus or something down there that would blind him. Hey, it was a possibility, okay? Over the past few days he hadn't noticed any change in his vision, so he was leaning toward it being safe. The stream bed looked conspicuously like one back on Earth, but he was determined to find something different.. even though doing so might ruin his swims for him. Coming up for air, Jaron ran a hand down his face and through his hair before leaning back and floating. He hadn't realized it, but he must've swam farther north than he thought because he saw the glint of his car out of the corner of his eye. Yahveh, it had been an interesting journey getting it out of the desert. He was indebted to Zee for charming a few of the watchers into helping them haul the damn thing over the sand like a bunch of pack horses. Jaron felt like a total ass, and had avoided the drop point and Exurbia since, for fear of running into someone that would laugh at him. A brief break in the shine from the Quant had his head turning to the side - the only thing that should cause that was something passing between him and the car. He was sure more than one person inspected the thing without his knowledge, but seeing a girl sneaking around it now still had him erecting his defenses. Grabbing his jeans from the shore, Jaron put them on over wet boxers and trudged barefoot up the bank. He would've made some ambiguous comment like, "Like what you see?", but it was clear to him that the girl was a good bit younger than him, so he refrained. "You trying to steal my car?" he asked instead, raising a brow skeptically. He smirked, though, so she'd know he wasn't actually mad. Thea took a glance over her shoulder the moment she could hear a disturbance behind her. There stood an older guy she had never talked to before, but something about him seemed familiar. Was he an underwear model from Earth? He did have the body for it, but Thea knew he just had to be from somewhere else. Maybe she had met him after landing in PE? That didn’t seem to fit right either.
“Not really,” Thea replied bluntly. The stranger seemed like someone she didn’t have to be wary of, but that was how she reacted to most people before coming to PE. Her older brother and suspense movies warned her plenty of times about how dangerous human beings can be. The problem was, Thea trusted others too easily and whenever her trust was broken, she left behind the culprits without giving it a second thought. Moving to another planet did make her a little more hyperaware of unknown situations, but not entirely. His stance and the funny look on his face was more than enough convincing evidence that this guy was a friendly.
“I’ve never seen a car like this before,” she continued, walking to the other side of the car and back again. On each side, she could see the word 'Quant' only viewable at a certain angle and beyond the buildup of days old dirt. “Honestly, this would be the best case of finders keepers in my life, but you don’t have to worry. I can’t figure out how anyone can get into this thing.” Her eyes traced the strange grooves that outlined the silver door but gave away nothing more.
Thea put a hand up to her face to shield her eyes from the sun and smiled at the stranger. “I’m Thea by the way. Have we met?”

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]She-.... Kind of stared. It took a significant portion of Jaron's control not to stand a little straighter at the appraisal; he was used to people taking pause when they saw him, but he hadn't experienced it in.... Well, since he got here. Now it felt foreign, but no less pleasant. His smirk broadened. "Only a little?" he immediately shot back, relaxing. She was probably just admiring a thing of beauty, which the car definitely was. He'd clearly bought it solely based on looks and not on substance, or actual practicality when coming to a world without roads. Getting the thing out of the damn desert had been a treat and a half; had Zee not been there, the Quant would still be there. She'd charmed a couple of the Watchers into helping them haul the thing on its slat like a bunch of work horses until they were on solid enough ground for Jaron to drive it off. Even then, the car's low stature made it... interesting.. to navigate through the tall grasses that surrounded Exurbia. He'd known before he reached the river that he'd have to leave his precious possession there, but even though it was fingerprint (and apparently layman) protected, he still worried. The damn nomads were sneaky bastards, and rumor had it they took something from the last drop again. The girl's comment pulled him from his reverie, and Jaron shrugged. "Neither had I, before I bought it," he divulged. "Figured it would be helpful to have a s-... Car out here," he corrected quickly, not sure if he should give away that it was solar-powered. He was fine with her thinking he was a dumbass for bringing a vehicle to a planet without gasoline, if that meant she didn't tell anyone it was here (or, if she did, that they wouldn't care). "Uh, finders leavers, please," he interjected, chuckling softly, starting forward. He was just about to reach out and open the door - admittedly just to look a little bit fancy - when she caused him to stop dead. His eyes had been on the seamless door of the Quant, but now they flicked up to Thea. He studied her a moment, expression giving away nothing other than a slight flare of the nostrils. They certainly hadn't met, but... Was it possible that she actually recognized him? A tightness formed in his chest, unsure if he should be delighted that his fame followed him or filled with dread; she was just young enough to be the annoying high-pitched squealy type... But this planet kind of knocked that out of them pretty quick, right? It certainly kicked his ass swiftly into shape... But that could've been the lack of drugs out here. "Uh... no..," he eased out, straightening from his slight bend to open the door. The car was momentarily forgotten. Staring at her probably wasn't going to help anything. Shaking his head slightly to force himself into motion, Jaron smiled and walked around to the other side of the car, where she was. Extending a hand to shake, he admitted, "I'm Leo," plastering on his signature boyish grin. Just because he didn't want to bed her (hello cradle robbing) didn't mean he couldn't appreciate a fan, if that's what she was. He figured it would be helpful to have a car or a silver batmobile out here? How, if it didn’t work… or maybe it did somehow? After all, she had never heard of ‘Quant’ before. Or maybe this guy was one of those vagabond nomads that lived on their own out here and maybe he used his old car for shelter. Thea’s own makeshift hut of a home back in exurbia wouldn’t exactly have passed as prime real estate, but it was just enough to keep her dry and safe (not impenetrable car safe, but just enough).
The stranger extended his hand as a friendly gesture, and Thea shook it. “Hi Leo,” she replied nonchalantly. Batman’s smile was warm, but Thea couldn’t help and wonder if he was being more than friendly; if finally, this was a guy who should raise red flags in her head. Her smile dropped for a microsecond as she realized that it was possible the car wasn’t even his…
“Wait, I know who you are,” she proclaimed with realization lighting up her face and hitting her like a stampede of elephants (or those big Petra Exterior animals). “Yeah, aren’t you Leopard? I used to listen to some of your music back home.” Wow, I sounded so cool just now, she thought, but Thea didn’t care that much because it was true. She used to listen to his songs when they came on the radio while working on her alcohol projects. In fact, when she brewed a new concoction, Thea labeled the jars by the closest things at hand as placeholders like “dirty sneakers”, “3:52 PM”, and one time mid-hum, “Leo”. She didn’t know much about the guy, just his face, maybe 4 catchy songs, and that he’s associated with what turned out to be a fruity vodka. Thea wasn’t a devoted groupie, but.. Still, she thought, how rad and bizarre was it to be on a faraway planet with a celebrity?
“I promise I’m not some psycho fan,” she added as calmly and normal as possible, not wanting to scare away the singer or give him the wrong idea. “I won’t even ask what brand of toothpaste you used today.” Really? Toothpaste?

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]Jaron wondered if the girl was bipolar, judging by how quickly her expression fell and lifted again. It sent his brain in a tailspin, but he didn't have to ponder it too long. His smile grew, previous confusion forgotten. "In the flesh," he confirmed, eyes crinkling at the sides as he dipped his left shoulder and turned slightly to reveal the leopard covering half his form. Straightening, he put his hands in his pockets (for once not intentionally pulling them lower on his hips; see above: cradle robbing) and rocked back on his heels. "You're the first person to recognize me out here," he admitted. His smile settled into a smirk when she claimed she wasn't a psycho fan, and Jaron raised a brow. He'd believe it when he saw-... "Same as everyone else," he snorted gracefully, shaking his head. Hey, she could've been a lot worse. Plus his blood was already humming through his veins at the prospect of having someone to fangirl over him - openly, not he caught Zee doing once in a blue moon. Turning from Thea so she wouldn't see how his expression changed at the thought, he reached for the door of the Quant - hooking his fingers under the letters and placing his thumb just after the "T" - waited for the system to recognize him, and lifted slightly. "Stand back," he instructed, taking a step back himself before opening the door the rest of the way. It fanned upward like the wing of some majestic eagle, and Jaron experienced the same thrill he'd had the first time he saw the vehicle. It was sexy, okay? "You can get in if you'd like. We could go for a drive, but we're kind of limited to the riverbank. It doesn't.. go very well in the taller grasses." He eyed some of the greenery still stuck in the tires despite his washing, and made a mental note to pick it all out by hand later. Her neck craned subtly to get a better look at Leo’s signature tattoo. “Hardcore,” Thea mused, admiring the artist’s attention to detail. Like most things, the image brought her back to her alcohol craft and her mind buzzed over how she could scavenge sugar, yeast, and berries to eventually recreate the ‘Leo’ vodka when her tools arrived. Realizing that her eyes were (creepily) glazing over, she turned her attention back to the shirtless celebrity and barely registered what he had said. Thea’s eyebrows furrowed in disbelief. “Really? That doesn’t make any sense.” How could she be the only person that knew who he was? His face was one of the few that even her parents and brother recognized from the tabloids without knowing his name. “I know most of us here are geniuses and wizards and whatever that are busy all the time, but I don’t believe it.” He was actually giving her the smirk and carried himself like a guest on a talkshow: cool, calm, and too charming for his own good. She checked their surroundings and dramatically lowered her voice, “I bet even that watcher, Elijah, is working on recreating his shrine out of sticks in his tent right now.” The girl’s focus reverted back to the car, whose luxuriousness made sense but practicality still did not. "So, does it run?" she questioned knowing (but mostly wishing) that it just had to. Per Leo’s instructions, Thea took a few steps back. Her heart skipped a beat as the silver doors spread towards the PE sky and gave way to the vehicle’s elegant interior. “Fine by me!,” she proclaimed, not thinking twice about the ol' ‘never get into a stranger’s car’ warning. She could tell that there had to be something more to Leo than his talkshow mannerisms, but her gut believed the guy to be harmless. Thea walked over to and examined the passenger’s side grinning and no longer trying to play it cool. | WORDS | 327. | TAG | Jaron Namir | NOTES | wrote this a little quickly. the girl's so trusting of people right now, it hurts me as her creator/pseudomother | MUSIC | Tokyo Drift (Fast & Furious) MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]She stared... Again. Jaron was used to that, but not in the way she did - like looking at him gave her an idea, immediately pulling her into her own mind. Oh Yaveh, was she one of those girls that had a shrine of him in a closet somewhere? Usually those girls were more... eccentric and difficult to deal with, but maybe this one was only a little bit crazy. Maybe she could hide it. Narrowing his eyes, he stood straight, blocking her view of the tat. Moment over. He shrugged. "Maybe people are just really good at pretending, but no one else has admitted knowing who I am. It's weird and nice at the same time. I rarely had the chance to relax back home," he mused, saying the words aloud for the first time. He wondered if the same thing would happen here once his instruments arrived, though he doubted it. People had more important things to worry about on this planet than swoon over the lower-twenties Entertainer that was there just to keep them from going insane with anxiety. He had yet to let anyone other than Zee see the shitty guitar he'd made though, just in case. It was really nice having the excuse of "oh my stuff isn't here yet" to give him time to kick back and enjoy exploring the forest around Nemus. That may have been childish, but his mother had pretty much robbed him of his younger years, so... At the mention of Elijah, Jaron's focus returned to Thea, surprise evident in his features. "You know him?" he asked, snorting. "I hate that guy," he finished under his breath, shaking his head. Granted, he'd only had to interact with the guy for about half an hour, but that was plenty. The man was about as welcoming as a patch of thistles... and just as hard to get rid of. He and Zee had barely managed to ditch the guy when he'd decided to latch onto their supposed-to-be two-person caravan like a leech. Back to the car. "Yeah," Jaron smirked, "It runs." He wasn't sure why, but he expected the girl to at least hesitate a few seconds.. But she didn't. Chuckling to himself, he shook his head and went around to the driver side. Lifting his door the same way, he climbed in and leaned across to look up at her. "Well are you going to stare at it or actually get in?" he asked. If not to go for a drive, then at least to get out of the sun.
