| In the short time that it took her to fall, Zee had already imagined a number of scenarios that could possibly happen -- the worst being that she impaled herself on the roots sticking up out of the ground and managed to kill herself, and the best being several broken bones and a lot of bruises. Either way the sudden stop when she hit the ground was going to be painful and it scared her. Only ... she was wrong. In all the ways that scenarios that played through her mind as she fell Jaron catching her had definitely not been one of them, but there she was splayed across his chest, pale as a ghost, trembling, and clinging to his shirt.
It wasn't until he asked if she was okay that she finally opened her eyes and finally looked up at Jaron. "Uh .. y-yeah." She answered, her voice shaky. Her neck hurt a little from the way Jaron had caught her, and her palm was a little scraped up from when she'd tried to catch herself but when she looked down at the ground and the tree roots she knew that it was the better option. Zee stared at the ground for the longest time before she finally dragged her gaze away from it and looked back up at the man that had caught her. She knew better, she really, truly did, but she leaned forward, her intention simply to kiss him on the cheek. "...thank you."
Zee settled back into Jaron's arms when he repositioned them, her head resting against his shoulder for a moment amd she couldn't help but feel that it was surprisingly comfortable. Her heart was still beating quickly, but her color had already begun to come back and she wasn't shaking nearly as much as she had been a few minutes prior, so when Jaron asked if she could walk she nodded. Of course the 'or do you want me to carry you' had her considering telling him to carry her just so she could stay where she was... and it totally because she was comfortable and not because she liked the feeling of being in his arms.
"Yeah, I'm okay." She finally answered. "You can put me down," Zee tried her best not to sound reluctant, but she didn't think she was totally sucessful. She waited for Jaron to put her down and when he did she held onto his arm for a bit to make sure she was steady on her feet. When she decided that she was she let go of him, sighing softly to herself. "Which way?"

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]Oh Yahveh, she was pale. Jaron's eyes grew wide, concern evident. Had she broken something? He'd only heard the snapping branch, but that didn't mean.... He swallowed, worried for her. Things that were easily mended on Earth weren't so simply cared for out here, and he sure as hell wasn't qualified on either planet to aid in any way. He could carry her to the nearest medic, and that was about it. With the way she stared at the ground for so long, there was a fleeting moment of terror that she'd broken her neck. In the milliseconds that that thought took prevalence in his mind, Jaron's heart rate picked up to a dangerous speed and his pupils blew wide. He didn't know Zee well, but she was the person he was closest to on this planet, and the thought of losing her gave him the distinct urge to vomit. When her eyes finally found his face, Jaron gave a heavy sigh of relief, not even caring that the emotion would be palpable to her. His mind was such a tangle of emotions that when she reached up to him his head twitched sideways, landing her lips at the precise corner of his. Nostrils flaring, his gaze locked on her face. He heard her somewhere in the back of his mind, but it took him a solid ten seconds to respond. "Y-yeah, of course.." When she rested against his shoulder he tipped his head back and momentarily closed his eyes, pulling himself together. If he was going to keep his sanity over the next seventy-two hours, he needed to get his shit together right now. It took a considerable amount of self-convincing before Jaron could accept that Zee had not sounded like she didn't really mean what she said. She had no reason to want to stay where she was, rested - probably uncomfortably - in the crook of his arms. Holding his breath (because he didn't trust himself not to sigh again), he gradually leaned so her feet would touch the ground. When he let go he kept his arms loosely encircling her, just in case - and was thankful he had when she held onto him a second later. "This way," he responded, indicating the area behind them with a tip of his head. "C'mon," he said softly, extending a hand for her to grasp. The walk was longer than anticipated, but that was mostly because Jaron was afraid Zee had really hurt herself and just hadn't felt it immediately because of the adrenaline from falling. He purposely kept them at a slower pace, pointing out every jutting root or low-hanging branch to her as Sol disappeared and the forest became a muddling of angles and shadows. Once they finally reached his cabin, he shot Zee a little smirk and pushed aside the leaf-curtain that adorned the doorway. "After you," he offered softly. | The way Jaron moved his head caused the kiss that had been meant for his cheek to end up at the corner of his mouth instead. The expression on his face when he looked at her after made her want to disappear altogether and her face began to flush with a mixture of embarrassment and annoyance (at herself). She wasn't going to apologize for it, though.
Sol was sinking faster and faster toward the horizon, so they really needed to get going before it was pitch dark. Zee looked in the direction that Jaron had motioned, and a second later she heard him say 'c'mon'. Without hesitation she grasped the hand that he extended toward her, ignoring the way her heart felt like it fluttered in her chest. She told herself that he had only offered his hand so they wouldn't get separated in the coming darkness. Or maybe it was because she'd just fallen out of a tree and he wanted to make sure she didn't hurt herself again. That was probably it (but it still felt nice). She was quiet as they walked, taking heed of every low hanging branch that he moved out of her way and every root and log that he pointed out. The gesture was endearing and she found herself smiling contentedly as they slowly made their way through the forest.
Once they finally reached the cabin her eyebrows lifted in genuine surprise. It really wasn't huge, but it had four walls and a roof that looked really stable .... really a lot better than what some of Petra Exterior's new inhabitants were living in. Her own 'home' was little more than a hut that she'd pieced together with the help of a cultivator whose name she couldn't remember. "You built this, too?" She asked as she looked at it. The only thing missing was a door, but, well, doors were hard to come by on foreign planets.
She released Jaron's hand and slipped past him into the cabin. In the dim light that the planet's three moons offered she could make out the shape of a makeshift bed on one end, but not much else. "Are you sure you were just an entertainer on Earth and not a woodworker or a carpenter or something? The guitar, this cabin...? Seriously, how much talent can one person have?" As she spoke she had wandered over to the window on the far side of the cabin and she looked out into the darkness. "I hate night on this planet." she murmured. It was far, far too dark for her liking.
The adrenaline rush that came with falling out of a tree had worn off and Zee was beginning to feel the soreness in her muscles. She absent-mindedly massaged her neck as she turned to face Jaron. "So, uh." Well this was the awkward part, wasn't it? "Where am I sleeping?" Because she wasn't just going to assume that they would share the bed (not that she'd mind). It was safer to assume that she'd be camping out on the floor, he just needed to point out where.

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]The flush at her cheeks caused a cacophony of emotions to flow through Jaron, from concern to admiration to lust. The combination was altogether overwhelming, so instead of acting on any of them he decided to continue along the path he'd decided on before the little mishap occurred - put the girl down and get her safely back to his residence. He didn't miss the little smile she got every time he did something to protect her, but he tried not to let himself read too much into it. She probably just thought it was cute he was so concerned, and was waiting for the opportune time to remind him of it later. Even that probability wouldn't stop him, though. "Trust me, not without help," he replied automatically, immediately demoting himself. It wasn't like she was going to tell anyone, but he didn't want word getting out that he was some kind of Jack of all trades. He definitely wasn't. "You think I would've stopped just shy of a floor if I could have helped it?" he teased, kicking at the dirt beneath them. It made for a sort of campy experience, but he still would've preferred something a little less.... wild. Shrugging, his eyes momentarily darted to the "bed" - she'd already spotted it - and he tried not to cringe. It was a lasagna of mosses and large leaves, trying to make it something relatively comfortable to lay on. It did the job, but... Zee moved over to the window, and Jaron's lips pulled at one side when she mumbled. Slowly, he walked a few strides closer to her but stayed far enough back that she wouldn't run into him if she suddenly turned around. "It's not so bad out here once you get used to the noises. I hope you'll be able to sleep okay," he worried, thinking about how the animals tended to clatter at night, and even if they were verbally quiet, something big wandered around in the evening hours that wasn't exactly silent. At her question, Jaron stared for a solid three seconds, expression only barely giving away his amusement. Then, finally: "The bed, duh." One corner of his mouth twisted into a smirk. "D'you think I was going to make you sleep on the floor? I do have some manners, you know," he winked, stepping aside so she could go crash if she wanted to. She looked pretty drained. Still, it took way too much effort not to reach out and grab her. She'd scared him back there, and the only thing his brain could think up now was to keep her extra close to make sure she stayed safe while she was with him. Instead, he dipped his chin and strode over to the corner opposite the bed. Settling to the ground, he sat with his back to the area where the two walls met. It would let him rest his head without having to worry of falling one way or the other. He meant to close his eyes, but they stayed trained on Zee while she moved around. | Zee wondered if Jaron's downplay of his own hand in building his cabin was because he was being humble or if it was for another reason altogether. "Don't worry." She said as she rested her hand against the wall. It had been a very long time since she'd been in a place that had sturdy walls. Her own little hut was a joke compared to the cabin that Jaron had, but they had to use what resources were around them. Hopefully the architects would be able to build them all actual houses that afforded some of the comforts of home. Like actual doors that closed and blocked animals from wandering in and rummaging through their things. "Your secret's safe with me. I won't tell anyone that you can build houses." She grinned then looked out of the window.
It was a combination of things that made Zee dislike night time on Petra Exterior. It wasn't just that it seemed to be so much darker thare than on Earth - probably because there was no light pollution - but it was also the fact that there were things they didn't know anything about lurking in the darkness. She'd never been one to be scared of the dark, not even when she was a child, but being on a new planet with a whole laundry list of unknowns had awakened a new fear. She sighed, frowning when Jaron said that she'd get used to it. Maybe, maybe not, only time would tell. When he said that he hoped she'd sleep okay she turned around and gave a little smile, despite her discomfort at the growing darkness. "You might have to sing me a liullaby." She teased.
As they broached the subject of sleep she finally asked where he wanted her to sleep and the look he gave her had her tilting her head slightly. The girl laughed as he claimed to have manners, which she was inclined to agree wtih, and shook her head. "It would be rude of me to assume that I would get the bed." She pointed out. "I have manners, too, y'know." So that took care of the matter of where she was going to sleep, and she assumed that Jaron would take up residence on the floor for the night, which wouldn't have been so bad if a single night on PE wasn't seventy-two hours long. That was a long time to lay on a floor ... if he even slept for the whole time, which she thought it was physically impossible to sleep for that long. Their bodies weren't meant for that.
She watched as he sank down into a corner on the opposite side of the room and she didn't bother to hide the frown on his face -- he probbaly wouldn't even be able to see it that well with how dark it had gotten. The only light in the cabin was the moonlight that streamed in through the window and while that was good enough for seeing silhouettes, the finer details were lost at a distance.
Zee sat down and began to untie her boots, glancing every now and again in the corner that Jaron had sat in. "that corner can't be very comfortable." She said knowingly as she pulled her boots off and set them to the side. "...I don't mind sharing." She was suddenly very glad that it was as dark as it was because Jaron likely wouldn't be able to see that she was blushing because she knew sleeping in the same bed with him was dangerous territory, but she didn't think it was fair to stick him in a corner and expect him to sleep comfortably. "I'm not that big, I don't take up much room at all." She joked, because that felt like it was safe territory. But Zee shrugged and crawled into the bed and settled down. It was his choice as to whether or not he wanted to share, she wasn't going to push him. She was far too tired.

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"] "Heh, thanks." A hand rubbed the back of his head sheepishly because she'd once again alleviated his fears without him having to verbalize them. Of course she wouldn't let him stand there, behind her at the windows, without making it hell for him. She turned and gave that little smirk that he loved hated, causing his right hand to twitch in his desire to reach out and kiss it right off her face. He also knew that little quirk of lips meant she was going to say something snarky, and she didn't let him down. His eyes gladly drifted to where he'd set his guitar down just inside the doorway before he answered. "I guess I can't pretend I have a reason not to, since.." He gestured to the outdoors, indicating the tunes he'd sung not an hour before. Jaron sidestepped to grab the instrument before he put himself over in the corner of friendzoneship. It was relaxing having something to rest his arms around, and gave his hands a job so they weren't fisting the material of his pants in silent agony. Why exactly had he invited her back to his place, again? He wasn't a nice guy - he didn't go out of his way to be considerate of others. But he cared about Zee, and even he wouldn't have wanted to make the trek between the colonies in the dark. No freaking thank you. It was a rational decision, he told himself, and they'd both get out of it just fine. ...Unless Zephira played the temptress and tried to get him in bed with her. "UH, no," he immediately denied, slowly shaking his head in a wide arc. "That has 'Danger Will Robinson!' written all over it," he pointed out, running a hand across the air in front of him as if highlighting a sign. Raising a brow, he eyed her. His nostrils flared at the thought of feeling her body against his all night, and it made him ache something awful. "Just... lay down. I'll sing you your lullaby." She didn't need the extra permission, but he felt like he was choking so he had to say something before he suffocated. Finally dropping his eyes from her, Jaron exhaled heavily and looked down at the guitar in his lap. His left hand went to grip the neck, and his fingers drummed along it for a second as he thought of what to sing. Instead of picking something sensible, he went with the first thing that came to mind - and with Zee in the room that was, of course, something romantic. Closing his eyes, he leaned his head back into the corner and pitched his voice to start, keeping himself quieter than usual so it wouldn't keep her awake. Somewhere in the middle he dropped his chin and his eyes sought her out, but it was too dark to tell whether or not she was asleep. | Zee's grin grew just a little bit wider and she shook her head when Jaron said that he didn't have an excuse not to sing anymore. "Not anymore." came her reply. Eventually people would find out that the only entertainer on the planet - only one that she knew of, at least - had an instrument and they would start demanding concerts. After spending so much time working they would be looking for a way to relax and there was little that was more relaxing than listening to music.
Her offer at sharing the bed with Jaron was denied rather quickly and at first Zee didn't know if she should be insulted by it or grateful. She sighed as she settled down, but Jaron's next remark elicited a laugh from her. "Danger Will Robinson?" She asked, somewhat surprised that that was the totally accurate phrase he'd chosen. "What's wrong? Scared that I won't be able to control myself?" There was a bit a truth there, however. For whatever reason, around Jaron, her sense of self control always came up lacking. Maybe it was a good thing that he'd chosen to stay in his corner instead of sharing the bed with her. Chances were, that if he were there with her, she wouldn't get much sleeping done because a) she would snuggle up against him and drift off to sleep -- which sounded like a wonderful option -- or b) she would quietly freak out while he slept or c) she really wouldn't be able to control herself.
Yeah, him staying in his corner was definitely a good thing, but that didn't change the fact that she still wanted to be snuggled up against him while she slept.
The song that Jaron chose to sing as a lullaby was one that made Zee, again, glad that it was dark inside of the small cabin. It was something that felt romantic and she wanted to interrupt him and tell him to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, or Baa Baa Black Sheep instead because there was nothing even remotely romantic about those. If he sang nursery rhymes to her she wouldn't be tempted to lay there and pretend that he was singing about her when he wasn't and probably never would and ugh...
Maybe listening to the animals outside until she fell asleep would have been the better option because there was no reading into that. A roar in the dark meant there was a giant creature out there hunting. Roars couldn't be manipulated into I like yous or I love yous or anything of that nature.
Zee sighed again and closed her eyes, willing herself to sleep, but it didn't work. She listened to the song until it was over. "...I like that song." She murmured quietly. Despite herself and the fact that she knew the smartest thing would be for Jaron to stay where he was she still couldn't seem to keep her mouth shut. "When you get uncomfortable just tell me to scoot over." She said, her voice hushed as she rolled over to try and sleep.

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"] "You know what I'm saying," he mumbled, ducking his head to focus on his guitar. Ugh, did she have to constantly tease him? Couldn't she cut him a break just once in a while? Give his poor confused heart a little time to bounce back? Of course not, because she was Zephira, and she liked to tug at his heartstrings without even thinking about it. Or maybe it was all part of some great plan of how she tamed the great Leo... Though he highly doubted it. She was too... genuine. At the end of the song Jaron thought he heard Zee say something, but the sounds of the wilderness around them drowned her out. He stared at her a moment, eyes unable to penetrate the dark to actually get a good look at her, but then he quickly looked away because what if she was starting at him. Good Lord, could this get any more awkward? ...Yes, yes it could. She could once again suggest he join her. Making little attempt to conceal it, Jaron grunted. "You're going to be the death of me," he muttered, setting his guitar off to the side so he could sleep without accidentally leaning against it too hard and breaking it. It had taken way too long to make for him to mess it up. "Goodnight," he whispered, settling his head back and closing his eyes. Sleep came surprisingly easily. He must've been a lot more tired than he thought. -------------------------------------------------- He woke with a start to one of the armadillo things crawling across his legs, and his groggy brain both unnecessarily freaked out and wondered why the hell he was on the floor. Standing up much too fast (he got light-headed), he stumbled in the dark over to his bed and sat on the edge, rubbing his eyes. Yawning widely, he eased down onto his side and quickly returned to unconsciousness. ------------------------------------------------ The next time Jaron opened his eyes, the impeding darkness kept him from seeing what exactly was going on, but his brain woke up along with him this time and he knew he was in deep shit. He laid with his left arm bent and tucked under his head and his right extended over the lump beside him. That maybe would've been excusable, but the way he was pulled said lump tightly against his chest was not. The smell of Zee filled his nose, and Jaron's bones immediately felt like they were on fire. What the hell should he do? If he released her she'd wake up. He couldn't get up without doing so. That was provided, of course, that she was even sleeping right now. Oh, fuck, fuck, fuck. He swallowed hard, throat feeling very dry, and stared at what he prayed to Yahveh was the back of Zee's head. Of course Zee knew what Jaron had meant, but joking about it made it seem far less ... she didn't know ... more like a joke than something that had a distinct possibility of happening. "Goodnight, Jaron." She said, yawning, as she rolled over and made herself comfortable. Within minutes she had drifted off to sleep
Sometime in the middle of the night she was roused to a state of semi-consciousness when she felt something moving next to her. Wait. Something moving next to her, She started to panic because she lived alone so there shouldn't anyone or anything in bed with her. It took her a solid ten seconds (if not longer) for her to calm down enough for her sleep-fogged brain to remember that she wasn't in her own home. She was in Jaron's cabin... so it had to be him that was next to her. This realization was something that she could accept, along with the fact that she hadn't been eaten, because if it was a carnivorous wild animal she would have been. It was just Jaron. Nothing to worry about. She sighed and a few minutes later she was asleep again.
The next time Zee woke up she was nestled quite comfortably against Jaron's chest. His arm was draped over her side, effectively pulling her tightly to him -- not that she was compleining. Her own arm mimicked his and she was sure that one of her legs was tangled up with his, making it nearly impossinble for her to either get up or put any kind of distance between them. So she resigned herself, willingly, to stay exactly where she was - snuggled against Jaron's chest.
When he woke up she could tell. His body was more tense -- she guessed he realized where he was and that he was holding on to her. His breathing wasn't the same deep, even breathing that he had when he was asleep. She could imagine that he was panicking because he'd been so hell-bent on not sharing the bed with her and yet there they were. He was probably looking for some kind of an escape route and even though she enjoyed the snuggling she wasn't going to keep Jaron where she assumed he didn't want to be. "Morning." She murmured, her head tilting enough so she could look toward where she assumed Jaron's face would be. She was trying to make out what kind of expression he had, but in the darkness she really couldn't tell, so she lifted her arm up to allow him to move over.

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"] Shit. She was awake. And holding onto him just the way he was her - minus the force. He had her pulled against him like a child's favorite teddy bear, and nearly as smushed. This was suboptimal. Well, okay, no it wasn't. Not for how he wanted them to be. But for how they actually were, this was about the worst torture ever. Exept for that one time she kinda lost herself and straddled him by the river. Yeah, that had been a good day. Focus, he scolded himself. Now wasn't the time to be thinking about how badly the woman made him ache - they were close enough that she would definitely be able to tell. Taking a deep, steadying breath, Jaron exhaled slowly and tried to get his head on straight. "Morning," he grumbled back, thought it came out as more of a grunt than any cohesive word. He was in his own personal hell, and both needed and didn't want a way out. So when she gave it to him, Jaron's eyes moved to stare at her arm for a long stretch of seconds. He wished the rising sun would start shedding light on the little cabin and grant him a peek at a sleep-mussed Zee, but they probably hadn't been asleep for more than eight or so hours. Sol was faarrr below the horizon, which meant they'd be stuck in this dark place awkward together for... way too long. With a sound that made it clear he didn't want to get up, Jaron rolled over and away from Zee, sitting up on the edge of the bed. Putting his elbows on his knees, he buried his face in his hands and groaned. "This was a bad idea," he admitted, the words muffled by his fingers. Yahveh, why had he ended up in bed with her? How? He didn't even remember getting up from his place in the corner - at which he now glared. "How long have I been over here?" he asked, voice deep from sleep. His head turned over his shoulder to look down at her, and though he could only see a vague outline of the girl, his stomach still did this weird knotting thing. His traitorous brain immediately conjured up the image of this being his new normal, and he tried to convince himself that he felt sick to his stomach because it was such a disgusting proposition. In reality, however, the nausea was due to how terrifying the sense of rightness was. | A small part of Zee hoped that Jaron would take the invitation that she'd given with lifting her arm and get up. A larger part of her -- one that she didn't want to acknowledge -- hoped that he would ignore it and stay right where he was because she was selfish and a glutton for the torture that having him so close brought.
Her arm dropped down onto the bed next to her after Jaron pulled away and she stared at His silhouette, wondering what he was thinking and how he was feeling. Was he confused? Upset? Frustrated? Mad? Regretting that he'd said she could stay the night? She resigned herself to the fact that she wouldn't know -- and she wasn't going to ask -- what he was thinking about. She figured that he'd only get defensive if she did, anyway.
Zee rolled over onto her back and stared up at the dark ceiling, frowning to herself when Jaron said that this was a bad idea. At least he hadn't said this was a mistake because that would have hurt a whole hell of a lot. She sighed and rolled onto her side with her back to Jaron and looked out of the window. "The worst," She agreed quietly.
"I dunno." Zee said, shrugging her shoulder when Jaron asked how long he'd been there. She hadn't been fully awaks when he'd climbed into the bed with her and it was damn near impossible to tell time on PE anyway. "A couple hours, I guess." Her head turned enough so that she could look in his direction. "Sorry, I should've woke you up." Because he'd made it perfectly clear when he was sitting in his corner that he didn't want to share the bed with her.
The girl huffed as she thought about it and pushed herself up, her legs swinging over so that she was sitting on the opposite side of the bed, her back still to Jaron. What was wrong with her that he didn't want to be near her? She stomped that thought down as soon as it surfaced, her face twisting into a scowl. She sat there for a minute before getting up and walking over to the window. "How long do you think it'll be until sunrise?"

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]He snorted when Zee agreed with him, casting a sneer over his shoulder. From what faint outline of her he could see, she didn't look exactly pleased with this scenario, either. He guessed it was because she'd woken up with him there and she didn't want him to be - but..... Her answer made his brow furrow. If she knew how long he'd been in the bed, why hadn't she-... "Why didn't you?" he asked abruptly when she took the words right out of his mouth. Jaron's nostrils flared as he took in the situation they were now tangled up in, and when he next spoke, so did she. Their words jumbled together, but he still heard what she said, so he didn't repeat himself. "Why are we just friends again?" When it seemed she was going to take a breath and he wouldn't be speaking over her again, he added, "I need you to remind me."It was an extremely vulnerable position to put himself in, and he'd blame it on his brain being overridden with sleep later, but he really did need the reminder. Times like these, or when he was just out in the woods by himself doing whatever and caught his mind wandering to Zee, he wondered if being with her would really be that terrible of an idea. Sure, she wasn't anything like the girls he usually went after, but he admittedly didn't have the best intentions in previous scenarios. He went for looks, for minds easily impressed with his societal status and not caring if he was crass or annoying or any of the other flaws Zee seemed so keen on pointing out. He didn't go for the girl that challenged him, because back then he didn't know how fun that'd be. Head dropping from his hands, Jaron stood and pushed his fingers through his hair. He paced the length of the little cabin for a few laps, trying to get her words out of his head from the day she'd told him they needed to stick to being friends and drop the whole romantic interest thing. At first he'd told himself it was her loss, but the longer he was in the friendzone the more he realized that was absolutely not the case. Sighing, he pushed past the makeshift curtain in the doorway, issuing a gruff, "I'll be right back," as he stumbled outside, hoping to find reprieve. | Why didn't she wake him up?
That was teh million dollar question, wasn't it? There were several answers to that question, one being that she'd actually liked how it felt having Jaron someone hold her, but there was no way that she was going to admit that to him. Not when he was so obviously upset about their screwed up situation. "I figured if you were tired enough to lay down next to me you needed to sleep." She said instead. "I mean, you made it pretty obvious that you didn't want to be near me when you were fully conscious." She cast a glance in Jaron's direction before averting her gaze back to the world outside of the cabin.
Maybe it would have been a better idea for her to just walk home in the dark. Getting mauled to death by a wild animal would probably be just as painful as her current situation, but with the added benefit of not having to suffer through it again.
Zee's blood felt like it turned to ice in her veins when Jaron voiced his next question. "Because..." I'm a fucking idiot. Because it's for the best. Because anything serious with you could only end in disaster. Because you're not a one-woman man and I don't want to get hurt. She shrugged, her head dropping as she looked down at the dirt floor. "I don't know." She mumbled, because it was so much easier to say than all the other reasons that held so much truth. And yet, even with the truth behind those reasons, she still found herself inexplicably drawn to him like a moth to a flame.
"If it's easier for you not to be friends at all, then ... fine." She tried not to sound distant, but likely failed. "The last thing we need is life being any harder on this planet than it already is, right?" She could hear Jaron moving behind her and his I'll be right back made her bite her lower lip to keep it from trembling. Yeah, she definitely should have turned down Jaron's offer and just made the trip back home in the dark even though she hated it.
She stood for a few minutes staring out into the darkness trying to figure out the best course of action. It didn't take her long to decide that it was probably best if she just ... left. Jaron could be comfortable in his own home without her there and she could probably make it home by the time Sol started to rise then she could spend a majority of the day sleeping. And she was probably just paranoid about things lurking in the dark, right? There was nothing to be scared of. And Jaron would probably be happy to be rid of her, anyway.
Zee sighed and turned away from the window, her mind made up. She quickly pulled her boots on then slipped past the curtain that was supposed to be a door. As she walked away from the cabin she hoped that, for a change, her luck would be good and she wouldn't find Jaron instead of the path back to Exurbia.

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]It was unusual for Zee to elicit the emotion from him, but Jaron was honest-to-Yahveh pissed. He wasn't necessarily mad at her, but at the situation they'd put themselves in. Correction: she put them in. Her excuse of him needing sleep was total bullshit, as was her little "I don't know" in response to his question. He'd probably be mostly calm had he not been able to see the way her stature changed in the time it took her to finally spit out that answer; it was clear she did know - and now Jaron's brain was running wild with what conclusions she might've come to. He pushed his hands through his hair in frustration. He hadn't given any indication he'd even heard her ultimatum, mostly because it felt like being kicked in the chest while he was already down. Hopefully she didn't take his silence as an indication of agreement, because he certainly didn't. It would be easier, sure, but it didn't make sense. She was the one thing on this crappy planet that he looked forward to seeing, and he wasn't going to give his body one more thing to deal with withdrawals from. Thankfully, the drugs were nearly out of his system.. He thought. He still had a day here or there that it felt like his blood was on fire and his bones were melting, but they were few and far between. Jaron's feet chose at random to steer him back toward the cabin, even though he hadn't the slightest idea what he was going to say to Zee. He was only a handful of strides away when he heard the crunch of feet that weren't his own, and he quickly pulled behind some shrubs. It didn't sound heavy enough to be one of those gargantuan things he was sure lived out here, but better to be safe than sorry. When he saw who - not "what" - it was, Jaron grimaced. So she was leaving? He would've thought she was looking for him, but she was making a definitive beeline toward Exurbia. His temper flared, but he tried to push it down; maybe she thought he'd just abandoned her and wasn't planning on coming back, and she didn't want to stay in the woods by herself. He sighed. Unlikely. His eyes followed her until she was too deep into darkness for him to pick out anymore, and then he waited until he couldn't hear her. Of course, this only made him beat himself up more - it was dark, there were strange things out there, and the whole point of her staying with him was to make sure she was safe. Now he'd gone and put his feelings in front of her well-being. Still, he didn't pursue her. Sighing, he shouldered past the brush as if it had wronged him, sustaining a decent scratch along the way, and entered the cabin. He wasn't tired, but he went over to lay down anyway. Yahveh.. He was so fucked up.
