Zee had tried to keep herself busy ever since she got back from Exurbia. The busier she ws the less she thought about him and the less she thought about him the less she had to deal with feelings that she shouldn't have been having. Luckily for her there wasn't a shortage of anything that needed to be done around the colony, so it was easy to keep busy. It was during breaks that her mind would inadvertently wander back to him and she would be annoyed with herself for having a stupid crush on him.
When she'd gotten up that morning she'd decided that today was the day that she was going to go out and see what PE had to offer. She still hadn't gotten much of her equipment -- just a crate of bullets -- but she couldn't sit around and do nothing any longer. She couldn't run around Exurbia looking for odd jobs just to keep him off of her mind. Not when there were millions and millions of people evacuating Earth for PE, and not when PE only had two colonies established. They needed to find another place suitable for a colony to be set up and she couldn't do that helping the cultivators and the scientists or anyone else.
Before she left, Zee slid the sheath for her machete onto her belt, made sure the machete was snapped in place and she was off. She was of the mindset that nothing was going to stop her, not even him if she ran into him. As she walked through Exurbia she could see the mountains lingering in the distance and that was the direction she headed. She wasn't going to kid herself into thinking that she could reach them on foot, but hey -- she could try. And, who knew, maybe she'd find something interesting on the way there.
Who was Zee kidding, though? If she found someone while she was out she was going to stop and talk to them, it was who she was. She craved interaction with others and wanted to have friends so she didn't feel so alone on a brand new planet. So when she saw another woman out collecting plants and dirt she couldn't help but stop. "Hey." She said, her head tilting slightly. "What are you doing?"

ever-pleasant BY MINNIE OF GS "Does this planet suck, Everyone on this goddamn planet was at a stalemate, moping around with none of their things (or maybe one that was useless without the others) and basically boo-hooing about it. Audrey wasn't going to deny that she was lamenting right alongside these people, but she was pretty frickin' tired of hearing about everyone else's problems. They weren't as important as hers. Were they in charge of warning the general population of impending doom? Omg Watchers sit down. She didn't think so.
Needless to say, she was fed up. But while her work generally dealt with the microscopic, not all of it did. Part of the beauty of microbial growth in soil was that it also greatly contributing to life on a macroscopic level - hence her research. Thinking on a smaller scale than the environment or life as a whole, the little buggers were greatly responsible for plant life. Like, for example, this weird weed thing she was pulling out of the ground that looked an awful lot like Ragwort but almost certainly wasn't. She'd need to look at it more closely to know for (nearly) sure, but she didn't have any point of reference... Maybe she'd track down a botanist on this god forsaken planet and see if they could be of any help.
Anyway. Ragwort was a pretty forgiving plant, but it did need a certain few bacteria in order to grow. So if this thing was close enough, maybe their were microbes here that resembled those back home. It was the longest of long shots, but really it was the only thing Audrey had to occupy her time, so she was going for it. And she was going to make sure it wasn't in any of the Cultivator's fields because it was poisonous to their livestock. You can thank me later, she thought bitterly, though she knew no one would.
She nearly jumped out of her skin at the sound of a voice behind her, visibly jarring before turning around, still crouched to the ground. "Jesus christ, girl..," she breathed out, blowing a strand of hair out of her face. "I'm doing my job. What are you doing?" she asked shortly, eyes scrutinizing the young woman. What in the dickens was attached to her hip? Was that a machete? "Out to kill an ex?" Audrey asked, pointing to the weapon briefly. "I wouldn't worry about it, he probably didn't make it out," she finished, returning to the task of getting the whole taproot out of the ground in one piece.
She never claimed to be the most pleasant person on the planet, okay? or is it just me?" - Audrey

The other woman seemed really engrossed in examining the weed, so it really wasn't surprising that Zee startled her. Still, it made her feel just a little bit guilty. "Sorry." She said and she rubbed the back of her neck. "I didn't mean to scare you." Her gaze moved from the other woman's face to the plant when she claimed that she was doing her job. Naturally, Zee assumed that the woman was a cultivator because they were the only people she'd seen toiling away in the fields all day.
"What?" She caught herself asking after the out to kill an ex comment. Jaron's face flashed in her mind and Zee shook her head. She didn't need to think about him. She didn't want to think about him. He wasn't an ex. He wasn't a current. He wasn't anything besides a friend. That was it.
"No." She said and she crossed her arms over her chest, but the woman just kept talking. Well, wasn't she just so pleasant? It was probably why she was out there alone, playing with plants -- they couldn't run away because they were rooted in place. "I was actually out looking for a ginger to hack up." Zee said because she just couldn't stop herself. "Y'know. To see if they actually do bleed." Rude.
Zee watched for a little bit longer as the woman focused on pulling the weed up and after a moment she crouched down near Audrey. She hadn't seen any cultivators take such care with pulling a plant up, so... "What's with that plant?" She asked. "Is it important or something?"

"The machete," she added, jutting her chin in the thing's direction. It seemed a little much to her, but then again she wasn't one for adventuring into the great abyss and determining what big creepy crawlies existed on this planet just to eat them. Audrey was more concerned with the little creepy crawlies.
Her eyebrows tented toward her hairline at the girl's crass retort, though when she returned her attention to the not-Ragwort, Audrey was smirking. It was nice finding others with her sense of humor, even if they were doing it less for the humor and more for being straight-up assholes. But that was alright too. "It's a fair question," she said, giving a delicate shrug. "I would insist you find out, but considering I don't know what sort of organisms are in this dirt and how quickly they'd kill me.... I'd rather you not."
She'd only just retrieved the last of the root from the soil when the girl asked her question. Audrey looked over her shoulder at her, one eyebrow raised. "I'm not sure yet," she answered honestly, even though she'd been tempted to come back with something sassy. "Since I don't have any of my equipment yet, I'm trying to get by on what might be important, but..." She shrugged again, a little annoyed that someone was asking. Really, she hadn't the slightest clue if digging this thing up would be helpful or not. It probably wouldn't. But it was something to do, and was way more important than the sun tan she wasn't getting every day she laid out. It was just burn, fade, and repeat.
"So since I'm not the ginger for you, what are you going to do now? Continue on to find another? I must say we are few and far between here. A brunette might be a better choice." She eyed the girl's hair a moment, still styled enough from her time on Earth that it was impossible to tell whether she had brown hair or a very dirty blonde. or is it just me?" - Audrey

"It's for exploring." Zee said slowly when the other woman mentioned the machete again. Was it really that hard to believe that someone who would be sent out into the wilds of PE would have one? She just really didn't get why everyone was so shocked by it
She was a bit surprised that the woman did not react negatively to the whole 'hacking up a ginger' comment. Zee was expecting her to be offended, to become angry and yell at her. The fact that she didn't and, insted, made a little joke back made Zee grin. It also gave her a little bit of an idea that maybe the woman digging up the plant wasn't a cultivator. She hadn't heard any of them talking about what organisms lived in the dirt, just what they could grow and how fast they thought it would grow.
So ... a scientist maybe?
The next bit of conversation cemented the idea that the red head was a scientist, even though she said she wasn't sure if the plant was important. "I see plants like this a lot out there." Zee said. "If they're important I can dig them up and bring them to you." She offered because it was the friendly and helpful thing to do. If she could help by digging up a plant or two why not? It definitely wasn' t difficult or much to ask for.
Her attention went from the plant to the woman and Zee tilted her head slightly. "Who says you're not the ginger for me?" She asked with mock seriousness. The mention of a brunette being the better choice made Jaron's face flash in Zee's mind again -- damnit! "No." She said with a shake of her head. "No brunettes."

-gentle prod- BY MINNIE OF GS "Does this planet suck, Audrey was a little taken aback by the smile. Was the girl bipolar or something? She seemed awfully agitated one second just to turn around and do that a second later.. Though, with a little introspection, Audrey supposed she might be viewed the same way.
At the girl's offer, Audrey gave her a small smile but shrugged. "I'm not sure yet if it'd be worth your time. Let me give this one a look over first, and then maybe if we run into one another again I can have you grab them." Really, she was probably completely wasting her time even digging this one up, and as much fun as it was to inconvenience others she wasn't going to twist the girl's kindness into a cruel trick.
'Who says you're not the ginger for me?'
Raising a brow, Audrey chuckled. "Me." That should be enough. Smirking, she sat back in the dirt, taking a few seconds to look the root of the plant over. It would be ideal to keep as much of the soil with it as possible, but she knew a lot would fall off in transit. Raising her gaze, she looked around for something with a larger leaf that she could lay it on. Just as she was getting up, the vehement 'no brunettes' came. Audrey cast the girl a glance over her shoulder, expression interested. "Oh? And why is that?"
Returning her attention to her surroundings because in her experience people were less likely to open up with someone staring intently at them, Audrey continued to look for something to carry the plant with. There! Something akin to an elephant ear, but it was kind of high up. Putting her hands on her hips, she stood there deducing how to retrieve it. Meanwhile, she mentioned to the girl, "Brown hair is pretty common. You may want to rethink that bias. Unless, y'know, you have a good reason..?" or is it just me?" - Audrey

Zee shrugged at the notion that it might be a waste of time to gather the plants. She really didn't care one way or another if it was, looking for the plants and digging them up would give her something to do even when she wasn't actively exploring. Anyway, she was pretty sure that she'd seen a couple of plants that resembled the one the red-head was digging up in the forest, but she could be wrong. "Okay." She said. "But, y'know, if you want plants to study for ... whatever it is you do I can bring you plants from all over the place." Once she got her horse and was able to start going out farther from the colonies, at least.
Audrey said she wasn't the ginger for her and Zee shrugged again. Whatever, it didn't really even matter. "Fair enough." Zee stood and looked toward the mountains again because the more time she spent chit-chatting with nameless the more she wanted to just go. That urge only became stronger when she asked why to the whole no brunettes thing. She usually wasn't one to be snappy or rude, but she really wanted to tell the woman the why wasn't really any of her business. But what good would it do to be rude? There was no point in burning bridges when you may need to cross them later.
"No particular reason." She said instead and hoped that would be the end of it, but it wasn't. Her eyes narrowed slightly when it was suggested that she rethink her bias. But Zee wasn't biased against dark hair at all. In truth she found dark hair -- and dark eyes -- on a man extremely attractive. That was the problem. She thought about it and she could picture Jaron and she didn't want need to think about him that way because they were suppoed to be friends. "I'll consider it." and she smiled at the other woman. "Oh, by the way, I'm Zee."

how to be blunt BY MINNIE OF GS "Does this planet suck, Raising a brow, Audrey looked back to the girl. "All over the place? How far out have you gone, exactly?" she asked, curious. If the little sprite of a girl had really explored the land, maybe she could be of some use information-wise; but if she was in the same situation as Audrey, stupidly stuck because nothing of hers had come in yet, then she assumed the girl was just about as useless as her. Which, for the record, was not an insult.
No reason. Well, Audrey might have bought it if there wasn't a pregnant pause afterward. Narrowing her eyes, she looked the girl over. It really wasn't one damn bit of her business, but really what else was there to do on this dreadful planet? It would be rude to prod, but when had that ever stopped her? She opened her mouth to maybe push, but then the girl gave her name. Dusting her hands off on her pants, Audrey stood, leaving the plant where it lied. "Audrey," she said, extending a hand to shake. "Nice to meet you, Zee."
Formalities taken care of, she crossed her arms over her chest and chewed the inside of her cheek as she thought over this Zee. She was bothered by something, and, again, it was precisely 0% her business, but Audrey was a curious creature. That, and she loved to know all the gossip everywhere. Knowledge was power, and it was fun to remind people of it later. Not in a menacing way, but more of a ... "how the hell do you know that?" way. Just thinking about it made her giggle, and she covered her mouth in an attempt to hide it from Zee.
"So really, what's your beef with brunettes?" she asked, raising a brow again. She was very good at the whole motherly-look thing, and she donned it now. Usually it got people to open up, if there was something they needed to get off their chest. Zee should start talking any second now.... or is it just me?" - Audrey

"Okay, so I was exaggerating." Zee huffed when Audrey questioned how far out she'd been. "Until I get the rest of my things I'm kinda limited on what I can do and how far I can go out." It was the same sob story for everyone, but it rang true time and again. "But I've been through a lot of the forest on the Nemus side of the river. There's some plants that kinda look like that in there. And there are some that are pretty weird looking, but I guess that's not totally unexpected." She shrugged and hoped that their conversation would continue along the lines of plants and Petra Exterior's strange flora.
"Likewise." The girl said as she shook Audrey's hand. She even offered up a little smile, but that smile faded rather quickly when the red-head asked what her beef with brunettes was. The immediate retort that came to Zee's lips was "none of your damn business." but she bit it back and frowned instead. The look that Audrey was giving her, though, the one that made it seem like she cared when she really shouldn't because she didn't know her made Zee want to start blabbing away.
Zee crossed her arms, still frowning as she looked at Audrey. "Have you ever just not wanted to think about someone?" She asked, her head tilting. She didn't think that Audrey was going to just let it go -- she was obviously thristy for gossip so why not spill just a little bit to quench that thirst? "And you see someone that barely even resembles the person that you don't want to think about, like maybe they have the same eye color, or the same hair color, or build, whatever it is, and then you start thinking about them?" She raised an eyebrow and hoped that what she said would be enough for Audrey.

Only a single raised brow gave any indication that Audrey had imagined the girl's tale was a little far-fetched; she couldn't blame her - Audrey would've done the exact same thing. The look remained as Zee continued, and Audrey narrowed her eyes slightly. Nemus? But-... Hadn't she just come from Exurbia? "Which colony do you live in then?" she asked suddenly, only realizing after the fact that it was a little out of place.
"Ugh, yes," she divulged when prodded, rolling her eyes. "But it happens anyway, am I right?" Of course she was, because the girl looked positively flabbergasted at why this certain someone kept crossing her mind. Her mouth wrenched to the side in an expression of understanding sympathy, and she nodded along, all the while thinking, Woo, girl, you got it bad...
"So what are you seeing?" she asked next, pleased with her little nudge. "That makes you think of him," she clarified. Had Zee said it was a guy? No, but it was pretty easy to tell by the way her expression changed as she talked about these infuriating moments of similarity. Audrey supposed it could've just as easily been a chick, but she wasn't getting that vibe. "Tall? Roguishly handsome? Eyes you could dive right into?" Let her just lay that sap on reaaalll thick there... or is it just me?" - Audrey
