{ } It was the middle of night when Dot stepped outside of her spaceship together with a bunch of other disoriented criminals. It felt weird. Back on Earth it was explained that they will be received by prison guards and will continue their punishment as government sees fit. But what they saw here was just a wasteland with small groups of scavengers rushing to pick up boxes and crates. She saw no prison guard around and so did her companions, quickly lowering heads and mixing up with locals, trying to dissapear before someone realizes what they are. Dot lingered for a moment on the ship's steps, inhaling the warm air and admiring night sky. Three bright moons made a crystal clear statement - she was not in Kansas anymore. It felt crazy - just yesterday she was put to sleep back on Earth and today.. today she was on another planet, and Earth was long gone. Dot jumped down on the ground, feeling how her heart trembles - here she was, stepping into another world, in another galaxy. Hello, PE, she whispered to the mountains afar, stars and moons, Let's be friends. Immediately her mind started to process things - metrics of surroundings, things she should do and things she wanted to do instead. She whispered notes to herself as if she still had her trusty voice recorder, Gravity - almost the same, Air - rich with oxygen, warm. Three moons - tides should be delightfully chaotic, planet tilt should be shifted and seasons should be significantly affected by that. Fun! No water source around... She took a pause after realizing that. That was weird. The planet was supposed to have water. Did they land on the wrong side? But why there were people around then? Why haven't they migrated? And then it hit her - her boots were getting warmer with each minute. Sand was bloody hot. Holy shit! All signs told her that something went seriously wrong - if sand was this hot in the night, how hot was the Sol exactly? She tried to make an eye contact with any of locals. She needed some answers before she could search for her relatives and friends and disappear in a crowd as other criminals did. MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]He hadn't been overly inclined to check in on the last drop, which Jaron didn't think until later was a dumb idea. He had the Quant, which meant he could make the trip like... 7 times over before the sun rose. Still, he hadn't made the journey because he felt no compulsion to, and he was a firm believer that if his gut told him something, it was probably true. But this was a new planet, and who knew if that could be trusted here. Therefore, tonight, even though he felt nothing fruitful would come out of the drive, to the Drop Point he went. What he hadn't expected to see were people coming off the ships instead of just cargo. The cargo ships were built to shuttle things out in a conveyer belt-like way, so human involvement wasn't needed. The fact that there was more than one ship was also... odd. That explained the people, but for some reason Jaron had been under the impression that travelers wouldn't touch down during the Scorch; even though no one knew the season was going to happen, so he supposed it made sense to be this way... Next weird thing to note: the new arrivals were... Looking around not like they were expecting to see family, but like they thought they were in danger. Well, maybe someone had updated the letter that was given to everyone on touchdown to include that they'd be fried like an egg if they stepped into daylight, and they were just wary nighttime would offer no refuge. Jaron made all these observations as he drove a lazy circle around the site, avoiding everyone by at least 400 meters. A car still tended to draw attention, though, so he felt the eyes upon him. One woman in particular, however, seemed to be paying more attention to anything but the Quant - so she's the one he went in for. What fun was it winning someone's affections if they were impressed before they even knew who was in the vehicle? Turning slowly (because the terrain was bumpy and hell on his suspension), he came to a crawl just outside the conglomerate, eased the Quant into park, and got out. With this many people around, he closed the door behind him so the vehicle would lock automatically; it was his absolute prized possession, and he would be tempted to kill anyone who stole it. Plus, a door that opened up just sort of screamed "Take me!", didn't it? The girl was walking towards him, so Jaron just had to wait for her to stop looking every other direction and make eye contact with him. When that happened, his signature smirk tilted his lips. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but you look like you could use a lift," he started, and patted the top of the vehicle. [attr="class","sintag2"] dot x made the font larger for you - is this okay? { } Ooc: yaay so happy to play this Jaron NamirEye contact - good! A friendly smile on her face (at least she hoped so). Social clues that she comes with peace were in place. Dorothy did an imaginary pat on her shoulder and darted towards the guy with a car. The car was good, meant that things were not too bad for travelers. The car meant batteries; batteries meant energy. Energy meant electricity and electricity meant progress multiplied dozen. Perfect! And the charmer spoke English - even better! Things seemed good, even though planet definitely was hotter as they first recorded, back when she was working on researching PE. But that was understandable due to three moons, how the hell did she miss three moons? Not that it would change much - there was not much time to search for the more suitable planet. How hot is the day on PE? first things first. Judging by the fact that my boots are burning and... Nevermind, it's hell, right? Plus minus error margin. She made simple calculations in her mind and answered to her question. How are we surviving? What about a water source? Have we found necessities yet? She put her bag on the top of his car and extended her hand towards him, I'm Dot. Her mind couldn't stop racing in circles, putting things in order, analyzing and triggering knowledge she reread during her last months in prison. Who knew physics and chemistry textbooks would be so relevant. She was shifting her weight from one leg to another, unable to hide her excitement. It's amazing! We rarely get to do on-site work in my profession, she laughed looking around I'm the astrophysicist. It's so unbelievable to be one of first to step onto a different planet and see all the processes and how they changed environment... I still cannot believe that! She had no idea that colonization of PE started more that six PE months ago. In her defense - just last week she talked with her husband (or fighter with him, to be more precise) - so it was hard to imagine weird time shifts they were subjected to. What do we have so far? How many people? What's the equipment? What are the risks and primary concerns? Any sentient locals? Welcome to the world of Dot, where questions are the means of communication, Oh and where are we going? Hopefully not back to prison, because honestly - it was hard to benefit new society from the jail cell. MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]Jaron had to keep his head from snapping back at how immediate and rapid-fire the woman's questions were. What was it with girls coming from this place and talking so fast it made his head spin? Maybe he needed to stop being so courteous and let them walk the whole way to the mountains, so he'd be spared the journey with PSR. When she didn't even give him time to answer before starting the next round of questions, Jaron held his hands up in front of himself. "Alright easy, brainiac. Let's slow it down so I can A- keep up and B- actually get a word in," he smirked, and leaned against the side of his car with his arms crossed over his middle. "It's hot enough to literally cook you. Don't go out in daylight. It hasn't always been like this though, so fingers crossed it's just a really wicked season." He snorted. "And we're... surviving. Water's in the mountains. There used to be a river that ran between the two colonies down here," he pointed in the general direction of where that had been, "but the Scorch has dried it up. There's little streams and pools in the caves, so don't worry.""And-," Jaron cut off, scratching the back of his head and looking at the ground a moment. "Did they not give you the letter you're supposed to get when you touch down? A lot of this is answered in that." He kept his head down, but his eyes flicked up to her and he shrugged. "I mean, I don't mind helping out, of course. But that would be helpful for you to have in case you don't remember everything I say.." Lowering his voice so he was talking only to himself, he finished, "Not that I expect that to be a problem..."Shifting, he stood tall again. "There's a lot of vine like... everywhere, that most people have been using for rope. It's also fun for climbing... FYI." Color rushed to his cheeks as he heard himself, thinking he sounded ridiculous. Smiling, he breathed out a light chuckled. "It's all over the place around Nemus. Exurbia is the colony closer to here - it's beyond the desert, so it's like... rolling grassy hills." He felt stupid saying that. Sighing a little, he prepared to continue, knowing this wasn't even half of the interrogation he was going to get. "Someone got to fashioning shovels and saws and nails out of old ship scraps, so we have those, and people had made baskets with the grasses, and if you line them with a skin they can carry water..." His eyes caught on her placing her bag on his Precious, gaze lingering a second before that snapped back to her face. Forcing himself to relax, he straightened from the car and gave her his hand. "Jaron," he offered, because he had no illusions that she'd fall for the Leo act. "How long ago did you wake up? You're awfully... chipper, for someone fresh out of cryo," he observed mildly. "Uhh... you're... not one of the first," he broke to her, "I've been here something like five months, but I wasn't on the first round out either. But how can you really count when the sun doesn't set for fourty-eight hours, right?" Jaron chuckled breathily, wishing he had Zee here to counter this woman's energy. Conversation out here usually wasn't this... deep. "Alright seriously, I don't know," he rushed out suddenly, getting uncharacteristically exasperated. "There are two colonies - well three, now - that everyone's split between. I don't know how many are in each. The trees are thick enough in Nemus that you can get your own little patch of forest and not have to do a ton of interacting if you don't want to. I'm sure there's a main gathering out there, but I'm not part of it, and I don't make a habit of going to Exurbia and counting people. The mountain's pretty-.." He cut off, because she just kept going, and now by this point he'd already touched on some of the things he was asking. Falling silent, Jaron raised a brow at Dot and waited for her mouth to catch up with everything her brain was taking in (if it was possible to talk this fast and listen at the same time). { } Yeah, seasons SHOULD be fucked up, Dot shook her head, still thinking about those three moons. How does one miss three satellites for the planet? Apparently pretty easy. While Jaron Namir was stating what she already knew, Dot looked around, noticing the damaged top of the car, Did Sol do this? She pointed at his car, It melts metals? That sounded pretty crazy to Dot. In general, the weather seemed to be kind of similar to deserts back on Earth - the air was so dry that heat escaped rapidly and it turned from hot to cold in a blink of an eye. You should always be worried about water, she disagreed, It's your only way of surviving. Something told Dot that Jaron was not a scientist, maybe those were his lovely eyes and muscled arms, but maybe that was the fact that he thought little springs and pools in the mountains being enough for seven billion people that left Earth for this planet. He had a car, though, probably for a reason, so Dot was not complaining. Oh, I got that letter, yes, I even have it somewhere in my bag, a paper might be useful, she shrugged, But without my reading glasses it was of little help, I've got hyperopia... farsightedness? She added helpfully, in case he is the same as Jamie and big words just make him sleepy. The sleepy driver might not be the best thing in the world. Would be a shame to die in a traffic accident on a planet where is no traffic. He blushed, even in a dim light she could see that. Maybe thanks to three moons, that gave much more light than on Earth. She found it to be an amusing thing. Even though it was not very relevant one. It felt comforting, knowing that some things never changed - humans still blushed, even while on alien planets. I see you have memories..about the rope. She raised an eyebrow and grinned. Even though next words made her roll eyes, I see we are still using dead language, she mumbled and massaged her temples for a moment before collecting herself, Nevermind, keep going. So they had forests or Nemus as they fancied calling it and grassy hills or Exurbia and desert without a name. And they had a colony in those hills. Dot wondered how the hell they survived those crazy temperatures during the day. That was the truth; she was awfully chipper for someone, who has slept for last 50 or so years. How long did she sleep? Jaron managed to confuse Dot with the comment. Then again - she was not a medic and even if there was something wrong with her, she had no opportunity to open WebMD and diagnose herself with Ebola, cancer or hepatitis. You said five months? Like Earth months? Or those new forty-eight hour day months? It was not very important, at least not now, but it was good to know. Jaron seemed pretty detached from society. That felt weird, as individualism was characteristics of Generation X, not generation 'Stone Age.' But Dot kept that to herself as she needed a bit more data to form an educated opinion about Jaron or society in general. Sometimes theory was far from reality. In theory, society should come together and survive together. In fact - there were probably too much different opinions, traditions and upbringings to do it effectively. People rarely did the smart thing before seeing consequences of not doing the smart thing. That was just the nature of homo sapiens. Let's go to the mountains, Dot looked for a doorknob on the car, trying to open it. Going anywhere else seemed like a super bad idea, if she trusted her rough calculations. Mountains had water according to Jaron, and that was survivalism 101 - keep your friends close but keep your water closer. So, what have you been doing on this planet? Some transporting? Do you live in the mountains? MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]Jaron looked quizzically at her brash statement, though of course she was taking him on a fast-paced journey and he couldn't dwell on any one sentence too long. "Yes," he answered somewhat slowly - an attempt to get her to match his pace. There she went again, being snappy with him. Alright, maybe it wasn't exactly that, she was just... sharp-tongued and unafraid to voice her opinions. Knowing her the whole two minutes he had, he'd already gathered that much. Raising his hands slightly in surrender, he eased out, "I said there's water..," and snapped his jaw shut before he could finish the thought: calm down. Those two words and women never, ever went well together. Voicing it was basically equivalent to asking Dot to stab him. "Hyper- what now?" he asked, accidentally talking over her explanation. "Oh, sorry," he apologized reflexively, and immediately wished he hadn't. Her badgering was less than pleasant, so potentially cutting her off would be a blessing. He shouldn't be sorry. He wasn't sorry. But he was getting uncharacteristically agitated, which wasn't fair to her. She was just making him feel dumb, and a little like an automated answering machine, and he didn't like that. He didn't know what she meant by using a dead language, so he just looked at her with his eyebrows raised. He wouldn't verbally question her because that meant inviting her to show off her mental prowess some more, and he was already close to having his fill. "Uh.. both?" he half-assed, and fidgeted. He didn't really understand the question. Who cared about Earth months anymore? They weren't there, so trying to measure that way seemed kind of irrelevant. But were they really all that different anyway? "Well.. I guess PE months," he amended, scratching the back of his head. She was making him feel dumber by the second, and any moment now his automatic self-preservation would kick in. He groaned inwardly, worrying she'd call him on it the moment he made the switch. Her change from questioning to demanding was not exactly one for the better, so Jaron let her fumble around on the Quant for a few satisfying seconds before stepping forward... To press a finger to her lips. "You ask way too many questions. Has anyone ever told you that?" He smirked down at her, holding the contact to make her aware of how close he now stood. When he let his finger fall, he did so slowly. Without breaking eye contact, he reached out and pressed the panel that released the door. He had to lean slightly past her to do so, bringing his mouth close enough to her ear that he could whisper, "Step back," in the tone that generally had women shedding their clothes before he straightened away from her and let the door glide up. { } Has anyone ever told you that? The answer to Jaron Namir's questions was - Yes, of course, yes. Starting with her father and ending with her workmates. Dorothy found it amusing because science in the very essence was about asking questions and seeking answers. There was nothing wrong with asking questions - more so - asking questions led to a better understanding of situation. Dot was a huge believer in asking questions, talking things out and all that jazz. She, in general, favored talking (as Jaron already noticed) over being silent. But she didn't comment on that as his finger was at her lips and he was trying to intimidate her into silence. Even though nothing good could come out of silence now - sooner she understands the ins and outs of this new world, the better. So she disagreed with Jaron but decided to enlighten him about that later. For several reasons, but mostly because his tactics of shutting her up kind of worked - he was uncomfortably close and quite taller than her. He leaned forward and opened the door, without breaking eye contact. Dot returned the favor - nothing more entertaining than silently staring at someone's corneas. Still, the whisper startled her. She took a step back and asked with amusement, What's with the bedroom voice? Dot also almost automatically showed him her wedding ring, before realizing that it was not on her finger - it was taken from her when she was put in prison. She hoped that it's in her backpack together with other things that were taken from her. She threw her bag into his car and before getting into it herself, took one last look around. This was splendid. Excellent. Marvelous. Awesome. Her excitement about being on another planet was hardly contained. Did you know that 'astronaut' means star sailor. That's what we did. We sailed through stars to land here. She smiled, shrugged and got into the car. MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW

[attr="class","sinmain2"] [attr="class","sinlyrics"]we've become echoes [attr="class","sinlyrics2"]but echoes fade away [attr="class","sinbody2"]Jaron chuckled at her need to pull back, not the least bit perturbed by what he assumed was her attempt at making him feel self-conscious. He was used to strong women - women who wanted to pretend with every fiber of their being that they didn't want him, but really just wanted someone to actually try for their attention. He was an excellent pursuer. Instead of answering, he just raised a brow and smirked, which he assumed would infuriate her. If it didn't, then all the better for him. Either way, it was really a win-win. Her clipped speech had his eyes narrowing at her, but he decided not to comment in favor of actually getting in the car and starting their journey. But her apparent aggravation seemingly faded a moment later, her mind jumping to yet another train of thought. Not idly, Jaron wondered if she was bipolar.. Or maybe just had ADD. Not to nearly the same degree as Colette, but enough to get him thinking... Of what he'd need to do to shut her up. No one wanted to have sex with someone that yammered on forever. "Technically you slept through the stars," Jaron countered as he got in the driver's side, "which hardly counts." Winking at her, he put the Quant in drive and started forward, intentionally going slower than needed so she'd have to spend more time with him. If she asked, though, he'd say it was because the terrain was hell on his suspension. It wasn't false, he'd just learned where to drive so the coils were impacted the least.. But she didn't need to know that. With the windows down, the drive was much more pleasant. Still humid as hell, but the breeze was appreciated. He really wanted to take his shirt off, but that would probably be a little much for the brainiac princess beside him. "We're going to be stuck together for at least a few hours, so... Tell me about yourself," he invited with a smile. If she talked about herself as much as she asked for every. single. minute. detail of PE, she'd keep him entertained for quite some time.
