they call me a menace they say that i'm cursed he hated being out in the open. More than just about anything else in the world, she hated having no cover, anywhere, on any side, regardless of how she stepped. But she was freaking hungry, and the weird squirrel-things hidden in the canopies of the woods around Nemus were beginning to taste a lot like chicken. Like.. unseasoned, fatless chicken that your aunt baked the shit out of and you basically had to dunk it in your glass of water to even make it edible. Yeah, gross. She'd heard the hoof-falls shortly after she thought she was going to wither away to nothing if she didn't eat soon, and followed the small herd of.... antelope-esque things out to this field. They now stood with their heads beneath the high grasses of the rolling hills just north of Exurbia, happily oblivious to one of their inevitable ends. Farrah's stomach grumbled so loudly in anticipation that she feared it would scare them away, but they were thankfully unperturbed. One of them had a smaller version - a baby, she assumed - at its side, so she decided to kill... not that one. Crouching among the grasses, she eyed the rest of the small herd. There'd been one earlier she saw limping, so that was her best bet in case her aim wasn't true and she had to go sprinting after the thing... But now they were all motionless, and she couldn't tell which one it was. Scowling, she flipped her blade over and over in her hand, a testament to how long it had taken her to master the trick written across her scarred palm. Such were the perils of stealing purchasing a double-edged knife. Just when the animals took a few collective steps forward and Farrah thought she found the one she was after, louder footsteps and crunching soil caused the creatures to look in her exact direction just before taking off. She didn't even have enough time to throw, which meant she'd have to stalk the damn things all over again... after they calmed down and stopped again. "DAMNIT!" she screamed, chucking her blade to the ground, point first. Anger fueled further by her hunger, she immediately got to her feet and looked for the person at fault. Maybe she'd kill them instead. Eyes locking on them, she let her fury fly. "What were you thinking?! That was my lunch! AND dinner, AND breakfast!" It was a damn good thing she'd already ditched the knife, or it definitely would've been flying in the person's direction right now. "Some of us have to get our own food, you know!"Infuriated, she grunted and bent to retrieve her weapon, sliding it into the little leather sheath around her forearm. She had her hair up in a ponytail, but the end of it was long enough to smack her in the face and stick, thanks to the blazing heat out here. She much preferred the shade of the trees. Grumbling still, she tightened her boots and started wading through the greenery to go find her food... Again. [googlefont=Bungee Outline]

[googlefont="Griffy"][googlefont="Abel"] I WANNA TRY EVERYTHING I wanna try even though I could fail It was amazing how animals adapted. In the short time their settlement had been around the wildlife had adjusted. Animals had learned to give their place a wide berth. They knew that a new creature had moved into the area and that it wasn’t safe anymore.
She like so often when she wasn’t purposely after something sighted was lost in her thoughts and her notes. Annía hadn’t even noticed the herd of grazers in the open field that she was edging along. Didn’t really notice them until the whole herd bolted for their safety. Even then all she did was look up at the sounds until words were shouted out of the tree line at her.
She looked up wincing as what was said actually sunk in. “I am so sorry. I really am. Let me make it up to you please.” She had a bit of extra food on her she could spare but she had a feeling that such a gesture would be frowned upon at best. As the woman said, Annía had just cost her several meals not to mention the hide from the animal. She was about to suggest that she could help or assist the woman for finding them but she wasn’t sure how it would go over. “Honestly, let me help make it up to you.”

they call me a menace they say that i'm cursed ake it up to me?" she questioned, still furious. Eyeing the girl, Farrah scoffed. "And what exactly do you suppose might actually help me?" She resisted the urge to call her a little safari princess... for now. When she started moving away, she heard the girl's meek voice follow her. Pausing, she looked back over her shoulder at her. Sighing, blue eyes scanned the horizon again before making her decision. "Fine," she shot back, "You can help me track those things again so I can get my dinner." For a moment she stared, daring the little princess to balk at the "offer". "I only have the one blade, though, so your usefulness with end once we find them. Just.. try not to scare them all away again, eh?" Was she Canadian? No. Well, she'd spent a couple months across the border. It was a fun place to pick-pocket. But that wasn't the point. Squaring her shoulders, Farrah started forward and just assumed the girl would trail behind her. If she didn't, that was totally cool too. As far as she was concerned, Miss Safari was nothing but dead weight. Picking up a jog, she followed the subtle path the antelope-things left in their wake. Since the days were so damn long here, she had no idea how many hours it took to get where they were going... But she knew it was a hell of a lot longer than if she'd gotten her kill the first time. Luckily for the girl, the trekking gave Farrah something to focus on other than turning around and deciding to have her for dinner instead. It was also pulling them farther and farther away from the colonies, which put Farrah at ease but probably put Safari Princess on edge. The thought made Farrah smirk. Cresting a small hill, she spotted her prey. They were moving slowly, which allowed her to find the gimpy one again. Throwing a hand back to stop the girl's progress behind her, Farrah dropped to the ground. The grass was lower here, which meant even less cover. "Stay down," she hissed, "and I swear to God if you scare them away again, I'm leaving you out here by yourself." Coming from her, that was about the mildest threat possible. | ✉ | figured I'd move it along a little bit... |

I WANNA TRY EVERYTHING I wanna try even though I could fail OK so she really had messed things up with this woman, especially if it was the woman’s sustenance for the next few days. She was about to answer when the woman turned and she couldn’t help but call after. This at least got the woman to stop. That was something right?
“I can do that honestly. I’m used to reading tracks and moving through the wilderness.” When she wasn't distracted that was of course. She nodded as the woman mentioned only having one blade. “OK and I won’t.” She had already messed things up enough. It was a shame she couldn’t be of more help at least.
Annía made her way through the wilderness following the woman. She was fit enough to keep up and even did a fair job of remaining silent. She was used to moving around in the woods and not spooking animals was certainly a big part of what she had learned.
She followed along, her own time sense shot to hell since coming to PE but that was alright. She owed it to this woman to help and find the herd again and she was doing her job. Though honestly so far this woman seemed to be able to follow the path easy enough. But that could change soon enough once the herd slowed down.
Paige slowed and carefully dropped to her stomach next to the woman. “No problem” She whispered. She motioned towards the case on her side with the binoculars. “Did you want to use these?” It wasn’t much but right now there wasn’t much else she could do.

they call me a menace they say that i'm cursed f Farrah had been expecting the girl to get feisty and shoot her snide words back at her, she was sorely underwhelmed. The little lady actually seemed to accept her faults rather than get the least bit defensive, which was completely beyond Farrah. Why roll over when you could get even? Safari clearly hadn't grown up somewhere where being nice got you killed. But hey, maybe PE was that place. Casting one final glance at her, Farrah continued on her way. Once they were low to the ground (she was actually on her stomach and - much to her surprise - the girl followed suit). She looked at her sidelong, wondering if this was all an act, but the princess' open expression and curious eyes told her otherwise. Farrah's brow furrowed, and for a few seconds she simple stared. What an odd creature. Her offer was... Sweet. "No," Farrah succinctly denied, though her tone wasn't malicious. She'd actually had to keep herself from saying "thank you", which was so far out of character for her it made her a little nauseous. She needed to get away from this goody two-shoes, stat. "I know which one I'm after." They had the distinct disavantage of having to army crawl down the hill, which meant no matter how low they remained, the creatures would probably be able to see them. Here's to hoping they were too preoccupied by food to give a damn about the rustling in the grasses to their left. Once they were within throwing distance (which was a decent amount away, thank you), Farrah extended her palm to signal the girl to stop. Looking to her, she pointed to the ground in a motion of "stay here". If she got up with Farrah, she'd undoubtedly be far too graceless and cost the nomad her dinner... again. Carefully unsheathing her blade, Farrah moved it into her right hand, point-in, and prepared to pop up. Timing was absolutely everything, and if she fucked this up she'd... Probably eat her own arm. She was SO hungry. She sized up her target, praying that anatomy here was as sensible as it was on Earth. The heart should be just behind the elbow, and she either needed to throw hard enough to break bone or at an angle to slide between the ribs. The latter was her better bet. With a final steadying breath, she popped to one knee, took aim, and threw. | ✉ | if you tag in your replies, you'll probably get slightly faster responses :) the "participated" tab gets kinda hidden with this layout. mine is @ farrah |

I WANNA TRY EVERYTHING I wanna try even though I could fail She may be an airhead from time to time. Not to mention lost in her own little world from time to time. But she was capable at her job. That was after all why she ended up here wasn’t it? For the most part she remained silent simply following the nomad’s lead. The woman was certainly an experienced hunter. At least she seemed to move well through the wilderness. She gave a small shrug and refastened the strap holding the cover down to the binoculars. Obviously she had already figured out what head in the herd she was going after. “Alright.”She was fairly sure for now that she was simply along to break up her schedule It really wasn’t out of her way simply based on the nature of her work. Though in a way it did eat up several hours so maybe that was her penance instead. Taking her queue from the stranger she stayed where she was only raising her head enough to watch the woman work. In truth even watching this woman hunt was worthwhile to Annía. But she let the woman do her thing and watched as she drew the blade from its sheath. The woman moved with practiced grace, a predator in her own right really. Annía watched as the nomad moved forward towards the heard privately amazed at the skill as she maneuvered close enough to the herd. That was however overshadowed by the skill the woman showed at throwing the blade with accuracy at range. Even then she wasn’t sure what happened until she saw the animal drop. Still having learned her lesson Annía waited before moving from her spot. Even if the herd had bolted at this point. Farrah Benz

they call me a menace they say that i'm cursed he second the knife made contact Farrah was on her feet and sprinting. She wasn't that far away (she had to be within throwing distance to make a hit like that), but she knew every second counted. If she wasn't quicker than her prey to react then she'd probably lose dinner.... Again. And then she wouldn't be able to blame little miss safari back there, but she'd be a bitch to her anyway. In short: no one wanted her to slack. She lunged at her target as the rest of the herd fled, the animal dying but not yet dead. In one swift motion she fell atop it, leaning against the knife to ensure it was the creature's final blow. In truth, she hated killing - it wasn't something she'd ever get used to up close, she didn't think - but she knew in order to survive on this planet without being dependent on every other asshat that had plopped down on PE, this is what she needed to do. She'd be damned if she was going to sit in a colony like a good little girl and wait for someone else to feed her. "It's dead, you can get up now," she called back to the girl. Farrah pulled back to kneel beside her prey, trying to decide what she was going to do with it now that she had to follow it this far away from her camp to kill it. She had a designated fire pit back there, and a few cruel tools to clean the meat. Out here she had nothing, but the thing likely weighed at least fifty pounds and it was going to be one long ass day if she had to haul it all the way back before eating. Hating either option, her eyes darted to the girl, lip curling. If she ate here then she'd definitely have to share, which was not an item on her agenda. Groaning inwardly, she popped her neck while she decided. "What's your name?" she asked absently, not really caring. She just needed to fill up their time until she figured out what she was going to do. | ✉ | see you when you get back from your mini-cation! <3 |

[googlefont="Griffy"][googlefont="Abel"] I WANNA TRY EVERYTHING I wanna try even though I could fail If Annía were to categorize the nomad, it would be with the large cats. Stalking and hunting by herself. Quick decisive strike. Singling out the right target. Definitely one of the great cats of earth. At the strangers prompting she stood and made her way towards the downed creature. Life and death were part of the natural order of things like this. When it had to do with survival and the circle of life. This woman wasn’t killing for sport, she was killing because she needed to eat. “I’m Annía. I’m not much I realize but I'll help where I can. How far away is your stuff?” It was obvious that Farrah didn’t have tools Annía knew the hunters used all the time. At least not on her so her camp was a reasonable location. Annía knew better then to ask where her camp was, she had dealt enough with a few like her to know that their camp wasn’t always something they would share. But based on how far away it was, it meant they may be able to get the carcass back. If they worked together. ----- Farrah Benz (sorry not my best, still not rested but it's something!)

they call me a menace they say that i'm cursed ven the girl's offer to help was annoying. Farrah was definitely in hangry territory, and should probably keep herself in check so she didn't bite the girl's head off for nothing. That was sort of her personality anyway, though, so being any semblance of "nice" probably wasn't going to happen, especially not with how damn starved she was right now. "Closer to where we started," Farrah grumbled, cleaning her knife off on the downed animal's leg before sheathing it along her arm again. What the hell was she going to do? They were out in the middle of nowhere, with trees only scattered here and there. The plains gave her the jeebies, because there wasn't any cover and if there was anything malicious on this planet she'd make a great meal for one. "Let's at least get it cleaned up," she decided suddenly, and felt foolish for putting her blade away when she was just going to pull it right back out. Sitting forward, she sliced open the belly so she could pull out all the organs she wouldn't be eating. They were quite literally dead weight, so she might as well get rid of them. She knew back on Earth some countries ate things like the liver and kidneys of creatures as delicacies, but Farrah couldn't quite stomach it. Even doing this while the animal was still warm was grossing her out, but she needed to freaking eat, and she couldn't do it here. This would make the carcass a hell of a lot lighter for them to lug wherever. Once she was done, Farrah wiped her hands on her pants. It might stain, but there was nothing she could do about it. Besides, it would probably look badass; as a Nomad, that was important. Standing, she turned to Annía. "Let's take it back to that patch of trees we passed a little ways back," she instructed, grabbing the animal by a hind leg. She wasn't the biggest fan of leaving a blood trail behind that would lead to their exact location, but now that she'd gutted it she definitely wasn't slinging it over a shoulder. She started walking, dragging the thing behind her. She didn't really care if the girl helped her - it wasn't that heavy, but she also wasn't a fan of being in that close of a proximity to someone else. Unless, of course, it was someone worth flirting with to get something she wanted. [googlefont=Bungee Outline]

[googlefont="Griffy"][googlefont="Abel"] I WANNA TRY EVERYTHING I wanna try even though I could fail Farrah BenzOf course her base camp would be situated closer to where they were located and even she knew they couldn’t carry the carcass all the way back. THat was a good way to spoil the meat. It wasn’t exactly something she had learned back home but since coming here she had picked up a thing or two from the hunters. “OK.” She knew really that her offer of help was practically waste but she had to do something didn’t she? Besides it wasn’t as if her duties had a set and defined area. Annía had to swallow once or twice to keep the bile down as the woman started to gut the creature. It was probably a smart move on her part removing the organs anyways. Even if they would end up being delicacies in the long run. For now they just didn’t know enough and for all they knew they were toxic even if the meat itself was fine. They just didn’t have enough info yet on the creatures. Usually the animals equivalent to livers was fine in herbivores but that wasn’t always the case. Certainly better to be safe in this situation. As the woman stood and wiped her hands on her pants Annía was wondering what was next. Then the next thing she knew the woman was dragging the carcass behind her telling Annía to get going and that they were heading toward some trees. She felt like a little lost dog following a stranger. But what more could she do at this moment? “Alright, do you um… want a hand with that?”

they call me a menace they say that i'm cursed he was a few steps ahead by the time she heard the girl start moving, and Farrah rolled her eyes. Really, she wouldn't be nearly this hostile had this whole lunch situation not taken the turn that it did. Hell, she might have even been inclined to like the girl for being so willing to help. She tried to remind herself of this over and over again, but had up to this point failed. So when the blonde asked if Farrah wanted a hand, the nomad took a long, deep breath before responding. "Sure. Grab the other leg," she instructed, jutting her chin in that direction. She was genuinely pleased with herself that she managed to keep her voice monotone; it wasn't overtly welcoming, but it was a big step back from the hostility she'd shown only moments before. She had to admit that the help definitely let them move faster, and she'd be less sore afterward from having to twist in a funny way to drag the thing around. Standing more square, Farrah's aqua eyes peeked over at Annía for a step or two. Really, she was a sweet girl stuck in a shit situation - one that Farrah had firmly imposed upon her. Not appreciating the introspection, the brunette started a little faster forward. It was probably a half hour walk back to the little copse of trees she was aiming for, and while the time probably could've been passed more quickly with small talk, Farrah was too hot and hungry to put forth the effort. Maybe it was just being out in the sun for so long when she usually had the woods to shade her, but she thought that maybe whatever summer this planet had to offer was about to begin. The past couples of nights were still pleasantly cool as they had been every since she got here, but at least today the air seemed... thicker. It made sweat bead on her brow and make a line down the back of her shirt. She desperately wanted a shower. "Alright, we can stop here," she sighed as they reached the edge of the foliage. "I can start skinning while you find firewood.... Unless you'd rather switch." It wasn't as much of an offer as a jab at the too-sweet girl's personality, but the smirk that hit Farrah's lips was very brief. She was too worn down to put much effort into being a bitch anymore. [googlefont="Griffy"][googlefont="Abel"] I WANNA TRY EVERYTHING I wanna try even though I could fail Farrah Benz She took up the other leg to help when the Farrah suggested it. It would allow them to move faster and she got the feeling that Farrah was in a bit of a hurry. Especially now that the afternoon hunting excursion had been extended in such a way. It was a shame that they had met this way, Annía was almost certain that Farrah could have been a pretty good friend. Certainly her skills and knowledge would be useful from time to time. But Annía really wasn’t sure on how to fix all this just yet. The walk hadn’t been that bad really but she would be the first to admit that she was a bit exhausted after that walk and hauling the carcass along. She was glad when Farrah called a halt to them. She looked up and over at Farrah as the woman asked if she wanted to skin the animal or gather firewood. “I don’t exactly have a knife or really working knowledge of how to skin an anima. I mean. If you wanted to teach me sure but that would kinda defeat the purpose of splitting the work.” She shrugged a little at that. “Guess that means I get the firewood?”

they call me a menace they say that i'm cursed he wanted to call the girl on how totally beat she look, but Farrah probably didn't look much better so she kept her mouth shut. Why exactly she gave her an option, though, was beyond the nomad. She rolled her eyes but managed to stifle a sigh, kneeling next to her kill and unsheathing her blade to get started. She was prepared to do the skinning anyway, but apparently Annía had yet to realize Farrah wasn't exactly the say-more-than-absolutely-necessary type. Just as she grabbed a bit of skin to get started, Farrah's eyes flicked up to the blonde, realizing she hadn't moved. "Today would be nice," she said expectantly, giving the girl a hard stare before setting to her work. Probably the hardest thing was keeping the meat from getting covered in dirt once it was "cleaned" and ready for cooking. Farrah had struggled with it when she first got here, but since realized that if she only cleaned the side facing her, then her food would lay on its skin and not get quite as gross. She wished she had some water to rinse everything off with, but such was not a luxury afforded out here. Actually, she didn't even have water to drink because she hadn't expected to have to trek this far to get food. That would explain the headache starting to form at her temple. She had just started making cuts out of the meat when Annía returned. Waving her knife absently, Farrah instructed, "Set it up over there so we don't accidentally burn our surroundings down." She motioned to a patch nearly at the edge of the trees, where it'd be least likely for embers to catch (she hoped). "If you know how to start it, do that too." She assumed the girl wouldn't have a clue, but hey, maybe she'd be surprised. A few minutes later she had decent cuts that would more than fill the two of them up. Farrah felt kind of guilty for having killed such a large animal now that most of it would likely spoil during the journey "home". Had she been of clear mind, she would've turned back to camp and settled for another squirrel-thing when Annia scared the herd earlier. Oh well, she'd use as much of it as she could. "Ready to go?" she asked before she looked up, carrying the meat over to where the fire pit should have been started by now. [googlefont=Bungee Outline]

[googlefont="Griffy"][googlefont="Abel"] I WANNA TRY EVERYTHING I wanna try even though I could fail Farrah Benz Annía nodded and turned heading off. Farrah was right, they needed wood and since she wasn’t able to skin the animal it was up to her to get firewood. She knew how to make a fire and what was needed. Knew that really you needed three things. Kindling to get it started, smaller bits of wood once it was started and then a few larger pieces for sustainability. Annía made a few trips, the first couple just being the smaller pieces and kindling as that would be needed first anyways. Several after that she brought larger pieces, fallen branches and the like. Though most of those she could only honestly carry one or two at a time. “OK” She moved it all over to where Farrah had motioned and started setting it up. In truth this is where her actual knowledge started to get spotty. But no doubt either way she would get it wrong. Assuming she did no doubt Farrah would know. It wasn’t like she had to deal with a creating a fire just about ever. But at least she was able to build a fire. Even if it was probably the worst looking fire pit in existence. It was in theory serviceable. “Sorry this is the best I can do.” Honestly she felt really bad about that. It was probably a skill she really should learn. Annía just hadn’t had a chance. “I know some of the whole must have skills I need here are a bit lacking. I’m jealous of your skill. I could never hunt like that.”

they call me a menace they say that i'm cursed arrah resisted the urge to roll her eyes. It wasn't the little princess's fault she was useless uneducated in the way of building a proper fire. What she'd set up would... suffice, so she didn't take the time to scorn the girl or fix it. It was good enough. Stopping short, she eyed what Annía had assembled, nibbled the inside of her cheek, and thrust the meat at her. "Hold these so I can light it," she instructed. Crouching down, she grabbed one of the thinner branches and debarked it with a nearby stone. Though it was hot (really though) out, the branch still held moisture like its life depended on it, so this one wouldn't work. Scowling, she threw it back into the pile and opted for another, doing the same with the stone. Eh, it was better; fingers crossed she could actually start the fire and didn't look incompetent. Just in case... "All these branches are too wet, but I'll try," she grumbled, and got to work digging a divot in the second stick with the first. It took way longer than she would have liked, but eventually smoke formed. Grabbing a small handful of dried leaves from around them, Farrah placed them carefully on top, praying she wouldn't snuff it out. Much to her relief, the leaves caught. "Ha!" she exclaimed, and gently maneuvered her weakly flaming contraption back to the pile. It took several long minutes, but eventually a proper fire was going. "I learned it back on Earth, actually," she finally responded, realizing the girl had complimented her some time ago. "I've lived like this almost as long as I can remember. If it was your way of life, you'd be just as good." Because she was distracted finding rocks large enough to cook their meat atop, Farrah missed how that may have come across as friendly. A short while later, the meat was well on its way to becoming edible; Farrah leaned back and watched the flames as she always had. They fascinated her - were the one bit of nature she never forgot to marvel at. "What did you do back on the big ol' blue?" she asked absently, gaze swinging to Annía. "Earth, I mean." | ✉ | she can resist being hostile sometimes.. |
