w hy the hell did she choose to go to the river? ezra hated most people, and her mood was still sour after her run in with logan. she thought his name bitterly, biting at the inside of her cheek. ah fuck it, mulling over something stupid would serve no good. she kept herself as busy as she could – she learned how to weave a basket from dried grass from the 90-something betty white look alike in nemus, and how to use her spear (she had to get a new one) to fish. no one else on this god forsaken planet was going to feed her so she might as well learn to do it herself, right? everyone and their mother thought today the best day to be at the river. worker bees collecting water, setting fishing traps, people playing in the shallow pools... and then there was ezra. she kept a distance from everyone, and scowled a warning to anyone who came too close. all the colonists seemed… happy. too happy. which pissed her off. she could see them whispering about her, but it’s not like their opinion mattered. ezra was content to seethe and munch on some fruit that an explorer had brought back from deep in the forest. don’t worry about where she got it, mkay? whatever it was called, it was bloody delicious. the skin was a soft beige, easily pulled back to expose the tender pink meat. it was mostly water, with a slight earthen and nutty flavor. ezra greedily licked her fingers clean, crossing her arms as she leaned back against a tree. she blinked lazily, eyes scanning as the crowds of people that slowly dispersed. ah, sol was setting. finally! someone had set up torches next to the river, a last ditch effort to claim the land from the native animals. ezra made eye contact with a watcher who lit them individually, snarling as he gave her a sad shake of his head. ah, fuck off man! he retreated to his post, leaving her to her own accord. evening settled in, an eerie blanket that gave the lone wolf comfort. she shrugged off her jacket, and walked to the waters edge. ezra caught her reflection in the water, noting how sadness tugged constantly at her lips, a permanent frown that would always betray how she felt on the inside. ezra removed her shoes and rolled her pants up, dipping her feet into the crisp water. the feeling was refreshing, something she very much needed after the stress of the past few weeks. the moon peeked over the trees, casting a luminescent glow into the water. ezra stared in awe as small fish reflected the moons light becoming silvery white in color, darting to and fro in an underwater dance. the silence was one of the only things here she could appreciate. Silence and loneliness. WORDS: 474 open |
