| There had been an undeniable sense of excitement when she'd seen the ships heading toward the drop point. Everyone knew it could only mean one of two things -- 1. they were finally getting supplies or 2. more people were arriving, which could possibly mean that someone they knew was there. Excitement gave way to hope that maybe an aunt or uncle or cousin had made it onto the ship and she'd finally have someone there with her. She took off running along with a crowd of other people who were just as anxious to see what the ships had brought them.
But it wasn't people that the ship was carrying. It was supplies, and as they were unloaded from the ship people were shouting and pushing, trying to talk over each other to find out who got what. People were pushing and shoving as they tried to gather around the small stack of things that were dropped just so they could see what it was. Zee found herself elbowing people away from her as she tried to get out of the crowd before she was totally engulfed by it. They seemed to disperse as quickly as they gathered, though, with only a few lingering in hopes that more of their things would be unloaded.
It... usually took a lot more to annoy Zee, but as she stood there at the drop point staring down at the crate that had the ammo for her 1911 she was annoyed. She had ammo and no gun. How could she have ammo and no gun. She had made sure when she packed all of her things they were together and now she had ammo. and. no. gun. She really should have been grateful to have anything at all because only five things had been delivered, which meant that a majority of the people on PE didn't have anything yet.
Still. If they were going to bring her one thing the least it could have been was her horse.
She tapped at the front of the crate with the toe of her boot, frowning to herself. "What am I supposed to do with this?" She asked no one in particular. "Throw it?" She just needed to remind herself that eventually the rest of her stuff would come. Maybe she'd get lucky and have a gun on the next shipment -- preferably the pistol she'd packed and not the rifle because that would be totally useless as well. She sighed and started dragging the crate from the drop point toward her home.

OH NO! DANGER, WILL ROBINSON! A rogue group of nomads is becoming increasingly persistent in their attempts to infiltrate the Drop. Watchers are holding them at bay for now, but eventually someone's going to get through... Ophelia Timber, @jasonm, & @alaska have through sunday, september 25th to retrieve their items before they disappear (potentially forever!)

IT WAS EASY to wake up every morning and fall into a routine. Eat, drink, haul water from the nearest source, bathe, pretend like they weren't a million miles away from Earth. Ophelia had only enjoyed the surface of Petra Exterior for little over three weeks, and already, she found it hard to believe that one of the unmanned ships had actually arrived. It took the sight of the large ship hurtling towards the Drop Point for her to start believing, hightailing herself to see if she'd gotten anything.
At this point, she'd gotten so used to walking away from the Drop Point, disappointed, that she barely believed it when her name was on the list-- and not only that, but she'd gotten two items that would allow her to finally start doing what she'd signed up for: explore.
She'd have to wait for her horse, and her bow, but for now-- she'd have bandages enough if she got hurt, and her tent...well, she wasn't sure how her tent would hold up if something with claws decided to poke around, but at least she'd be mildly comfortable in the wild. Well, as comfortable as she could get.
Just as she'd turned to scurry back to Exurbia, her eyes swept over the items that the other people had received-- and landed on an oddly familiar face. Except, it wasn't so familiar when it was scowling. A few mumbled words caught in the wind and carried over to Ophelia.
For a moment, the explorer paused, indecision keeping her in place. Then, she walked over to Zephira and gave a nervous wave.
"Do you need help carrying that back?" She offered, gesturing to the box of ammo.

that's unfortunate we couldn't hold them back! Despite doubling Watcher duty, the rogues slipped past defenses and stole @jasonm 's crate and @alaska 's seeds. One Watcher sustained an injury to the back of the head and is off duty until his possible concussion passes, and another is out for a wrenched knee. The Nomads split up on their departure, with only one eye witness to claim they may have seen one group headed east - further into the desert - but it was dark and they can't be sure. Pursuit has thus far been unfruitful, and as far as anyone can tell, the items are gone for good.

Zee looked up when she heard a voice asking if she needed help. She recognized the other girl as an explorer, but couldn't place a name with a face. She straightened up and wiped the palms of her hands against the legs of her shorts. "Uh, yeah. It's pretty heavy." She answered then grinned and shook her head because the girl that offered to help her wasn't any bigger than she was. There were other people still milling around the drop, men who could have lifted the crate the rounds came in with no problem, and yet the only one that even bothered to try to help her was another tiny explorer.
"I'm Zee." She said and she held her hand out to Ophelia. "What did you get?" She asked, motioning to the things that Ophelia had with her. She naturally wanted to assume by the shape of one of the items that it was a tent -- since Phee was an explorer and all -- but it could have just as easily been something else. A tent would come in handy, though. She really should have thought about packing one away for herself.
Zee sighed and bent down to grab at the crate her ammo came in so the pair could bring it to the little hut that she called home. "You would think that one of these big strong men would offer to help." She said. "But maybe they're intimidated by us." Or just amused at the sight of two teeny girls man-handling a crate. Whatever the reason for them not helping she was glad that Ophelia had. "Thanks, by the way."
She was quiet for a bit while they continued the trek toward her home. "Have you been out exploring?" She asked as she glanced at the other girl. "Or are you holding off until all of your stuff comes in?"

| | She needed a hero
so that is what she became
Regina Spektornotes ❧ tags ❧ words Janet knew she should have gone earlier, but frustration and struggling to deal with a fussy and sick Winry had left her unable to do much about it. She reasoned the seeds would be safer at the guarded drop then the sad excuse of a shelter where there was no guards. It had all made sense then, but now it didn't seem to. Janet had finally felt comfortable leaving Winry again now that she was less ill. She left her with a woman who had watched the girl once before to go and retrieve the seeds. Maybe her tools would come next so that she might be able to actually plant them rather than worry herself ill over guarding them.
However, once Janet got there the awful truth was told to her. She was too late. Someone had stolen her seeds. They might as well have come in the night and shot Winry and her in the head. Trembling, Janet left the ship, not sure what to do now. That was going to be their main source of food. They'd barely been making it as it was on this strange planet. Janet had told Winry she would return with seeds. The little girl had always liked to help Janet plant the seeds in the ground. The young girl would marvel at how such a small thing would grow up to be something that would give them food. She had no idea what to say to Winry now. That there wouldn't be food? That she didn't know when or if their livestock would come. Would she have to then slaughter all of them just to survive a little longer? Furious with herself, Janet kicked a rock as hard as she could and bit down on her lip until it drew blood to keep from screaming in rage.
With nothing left to be done at the drop ship she staggered away, heading home.
