| d aario grumbled to himself as he approached exurbia. the flat expanse of land felt so... unsafe. a fierce sky predator could easily drop down to pick up an unsuspecting civilian and make off with them. a “fierce sky predator” being a vesper, and a vesper was the very reason he was headed to exurbia in the first place. his shoulder bothered him still – he had seen a few “medics” for treatment, but for some reason it had yet to heal. the past couple days were especially taxing on him – dizziness and fatigue plagued every waking hour. an unacceptable way to be, especially on this planet. daario scratched at his shoulder, trying to relieve the contact itch that persisted through the thick bandages and neosporin. he refused to look at the wound since he first had gotten it patched up, so his guess was as good as any as to what was happening under the bandages. daario cursed himself for his carelessness as he wiped the cold sweat from his forehead (or top of his head?) he spotted a watcher standing apart from the crowd of people (when did this place get so PACKED? back to the mountains we go) and waved his hand. “hey man, where would I find a medic?” daario listened intently as the man described who he needed to find. female (naturally) with fiery red hair and a bite-me attitude. sounded like his kind of woman! gusto renewed, he took to the bustling crowd, noting small landmarks along the way to the medic station. daario felt slightly out of place at the fact he was nearly two heads taller than anyone else. there was a striking difference in the people of the colonies, he noticed. exurbia is where more of the small, slender people resided. hunters who fed the populous, tiny insignificant humans chasing after rabbits. the mountain is where the large statured and hardy people lived, making home amongst the harshest of areas. the badasses of PE, mind you. the people in the forests of nemus? bunch of fuckin wierdos. daario saw the wave of red hair and jogged towards her direction. the jostling made his head spin, and he barely slowed enough so as to not to barrel her over. "little birdy told me you're a medic? i uh.." his left hand went over to massage the knot on his shoulder, "need something looked at. please," he felt like shit, but always remembered his manners to a lady. he made sure to set his priorities then and there. priority 1: get stitched up and get out alive. priority 2: second base. *wink* |

"Little birdie told me you're a medic?"
Fuck.
As per usual, Riley was in no mood to have to deal with any of the colonists and their problems. She was hot, sweaty, tired, and irritated. She kept walking, not even sparing the man a glance. "Little birdie was wrong." The medic replied, waving her hand dismissively. When the man didn't leave right away and kept talking she rounded on him. Then stopped and looked up. "Jesus Christ." He was ridiculously tall and his muscle mass was bordering on obnoxious.
Her eyes followed his movement when he rubbed at his shoulder. She could see part of a bandage peeking out from under his shirt and that made her raise an eyebrow. "You've already seen a medic." She said, gesturing to his shoulder. "It's all bandaged up, what do you want me to do?" Of course she knew that he expected her to look at it, and she probably should just to make sure it wasn't infected. Judging from the way he looked -- exhausted, sweaty, maybe a little feverish -- it might already be.
"God damnit." She sighed heavily. "Come on." Riley gestured for the muscle man to follow her as she walked toward her new medic station -- the old one had warped and partially melted during the Scorch. It was only a short distance away from where he'd caught up with her. Once they reached it she pushed the door open and stepped inside. "Take your shirt off and sit down." Luckily she'd been able to salvage her table and chairs from the old place, so there was a place for Daario to sit that wasn't the floor.
"So." She said, dropping her medic kit down onto the table and opening it. "How long ago did it happen? And how many 'medics' have you seen about it? What did they do?" Because chances were they weren't legitimate medics and had made whatever problem the man had worse than it had been originally.

| t he second he heard her reply, he knew she was the medic he was looking for. daario grinned to himself, - bite-me attitude indeed! “jesus christ” his size definitely surprised her – naturally. he resisted the urge to flex his pecs at her. women loved that, right? at least normal ones did – this one had an edge in her voice that made him feel like she could bite his head off at any moment. think with the head on your shoulders, man. daario jutted out his lower lip in an adorable puppy pout when she first dismissed him. maybe he should have just come to her without the bandages and only a gaping – possible infected- wound on his neck/shoulder? the pout must have worked, because she let out a frustrated sigh and caved in. daario trailed right behind her, keeping their proximity close as they weaved through civilians to reach her station. it was rinky-dink, but so was everything else on this planet. admittedly, daario was impressed it was in such good conditions after the scorch. he flopped in the chair closest to the table, smirking as she told him to take off his shirt. with pleasure! he wanted to say aloud, but refused to make himself look like a bumbling idiot. yet. babying his wounded arm, he stripped off his shirt and dropped the sweaty cloth at his feet. daario arched his brow as she slammed her kit on the table. intended force, or was she trying to intimidate him? he hoped for both. licking his lips, he leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “ah, about two weeks ago? two medics.. stitches, alcohol poured on it, some crazy lady tried chewing up a root and spitting it all over,” he chuckled, reliving the seriously uncomfortable event. He cleared his throat, becoming serious again. “nothing since then,” he leaned back, half expecting her to chastise him like a child. (wasn’t that the plan all along?) he’d cross his arms, but now his left arm hung limply in his lap, refusing to move. daario rumbled lowly as pinpricks tickled at his fingertips. it seemed time was now of the essence. “let me know what you can do with it, doc,” his eye flickered up, checking out her petite frame as she had her back turned. “and thanks.” |

"Don't pout at me." Riley snorted when the giant man poked his lower lip out at her. What did he think that was going to do besides make him look stupid? It certainly didn't pull at her heartstrings and make her feel bad for him for being injure. The injury was probably his fault, anyway, which meant that he probably deserved it. "You look stupid." But still, she took him with her because it was kind of her jobp to help the idiots that got themselves hurt. If word got out that she started refusing patients then the Watchers would be even more of a pain in the ass and the colonists would start finding other medics, which meant less trade with her.
She didn't have to act happy about it, though.
"Don't break my chair." She caught herself snapping as the giant flopped down onto it. "It's not meant to take that much weight. ANd if it breaks and you end up with a chair leg up your ass you're gonna have to find someone else to take it out." Because she'd be too busy laughing and angry that he'd broken her chair.
RIley had occupied herself with digging through her kit while Daario told her about his injury. Two weeks ago, two medics, stitches, alcohol, chewe up .... wait. "What?" She turned and stared at him. "Are you fucking kidding me?" He didn't look like he was joking and RIley shook her head. "Do you even know what kind of root it was? Was if something from Earth or was it something she found here?" She remembered, quite vividly, the asian kid that had pricked his finger on one of PE's indigenous plants. His hand had swollen horribly and when she'd lanced it a wriggling black worm-like parasite had exploded out of it.
A frown had etched itself onto her face and RIley moved to stand by Daario's side, looking down at his bandaged shoulder. God only knew what she'd find when she pulled the bandages off, but she was expecting the worst. She began to, none too gently, pull the edges of the bandage up, not stopping until the wound was revealed in its entirety. Her nose wrinkled and she tossed the blood-stained bandage onto the table.
"I need water to clean this up." She said, sighing as she looked at the mess that the other "medics" had left behind. "And I'm going to need to re-suture it. The work is sloppy, and it's not even closed all the way." The biggest problem was that she didn't have any water in her station to even start cleaning the chewed up gunk off of his shoulder -- she hadn't made the run to get fresh water yet. "Can you walk to the river?"

| d aario would have been offended at the ‘you look stupid’ remark if he hadn’t caught his reflection in her shiny chrome chair. stupid? no. masterpiece? yes. she’d agree eventually! regardless of her comments she agreed to help him anyways so win-win. daario frowned as he imagined being impaled in his nether regions by a chair leg – why did she had to be so damn descriptive? the man jumped slightly when she turned and snapped at him, not expecting her on-the-dime outburst. did he know what kind of root or plant it was? daario cupped his chin, and leaned back thoughtfully hoping to remember the small details of that encounter. truth be told he already suppressed most of it, no one human on this planet or earth had ever made him feel so… strange. “i think from here. she said she had been studying some plants north of the mountains, something about anti inflammatory and antiseptic possibilities. i haven’t felt pain since then, but i just took her word for it,” his voice slowly tapered off into little more than a whisper as the medics eyes bore into him. did he just get himself into trouble? now on edge, he kept his muscles flexed when she – with no hint of gentleness – tinkered with his bandage. fresh air felt nice on his hot skin, even if it was only temporary. it stung like hell after that. he moved his arm slightly, testing the feeling with the lack of… anything between his shoulder and neck. it was weird and unnerving, and he hoped that it wouldn’t get in the way of him pioneering the mountains. daario grabbed his shirt from the floor, and stood slowly being mindful to keep one hand on the back of the chair for support. he felt the metal bend underneath his fingers as he strained to get himself upright. gruffly he replied, “of course. let’s get going,” motioning his hand for her to lead the way. he didn’t trust being alone in his weakened state, and he damn well wasn’t going to walk out of this place and come back to find she had disappeared. you’re stickin’ with me, redhead. |
