The day felt like it had dragged on for what seemed like forever, but it probably wasn't any longer than normal. It was probably just because Zee was tired. She had been up since before Sol had even crested the horizon. A noise outside of her little hut had woken her up and she hadn't been able to fall back asleep, so when Sol finally did rise and wash everything in daylight she'd gone out to get her horse and had brought it home so she could saddle it. She made sure her rifle was loaded, tucked away extra rounds into one of her saddle bags, and then headed out.
Honestly, she really hadn't had any particular destination in mind, she just didn't feel like sitting around the colony. And she didn't feel like helping the cultivators continue to clear fields and replant crops that had been destroyed during the scorch. She passed through Nemus pretty early and continued on toward the mountains because she'd heard that some of the colonists had stayed behind. While she wasn't too keen on going back to the place that had served as their homes during the Scorch she was curious about how they were faring. Living in a cave hadn't been easy and she didn't think that she'd be able to voluntarily live there -- not when Exurbia and Nemus were flourishing. Or ... flourishing as much as they could on a hostile, alien planet.
When she left the mountains and headed in the direction that she and Jaron had discovered the lava field, which still baffled her. The only way she'd be able to find out where it had all come from was if she followed it, but she wasn't sure she wanted to take on that adventure by herself. There was safety in numbers. If anything happened to her no one would ever find her... no one would ever know where she'd gone. At least with a partner if one of them happened to be injured they could go for help.
Zee had sat for a while looking at the glowing, bubbling lava that seemed to stretch endlessly toward the horizon. The heat was beginning to make the horse -- and herself -- uncomfortable so she turned and headed back in the direction she had come. As she rode she couldn't help but be thankful that her horse had arrived because walking everywhere was exhausting and took up far too much time. It would take years to get the areas surrounding the colonies mapped if they had to do it on foot.
She didn't stop until she finally reached Nemus -- again -- and when she did she dismounted an led her horse toward the river so it could drink. She patted the sweaty animal's neck and looked around, yawning -- a nap was beginning to sound really good. The coast was clear, it seemed, so she crouched down next to the horse and splashed some water in her face to simultaneously cool down and wake herself up.

How Are You Even Still Alive? The urge to push her into the water was overwhelming, but he didn’t know what she had on her that may be ruined and the last thing he wanted to do was cause Ella any distress. Because, for whatever reason, the innocent little tiny girl actually amused him. No, he didn’t care for her. Well. Okay. Not really. He just didn’t want to cause her harm, or would beat the living shit out of anyone else who caused her harm. But it wasn’t like he cared. Because Logan didn’t do that. Right? Either way, he forced the urge to push her into the river, even though he really really wanted too.
The seal hadn’t seen her since the Scorch, when he had disappeared after staying with her for a couple weeks. It was nothing against her, he just wasn’t the type of person to stick around for long periods of time. Although, having someone cook for him was a bonus. After all, anyway to lessen his effort in things was a positive. The one thing about this planet, there was no cellular service or internet so the ability to keep track of others was even worse than before. There wasn’t even the usual hang outs for someone like Logan, because he was not in the colony so he had no cover of being in a group.
Yet, he always seemed to run into her, in the middle of no where, doing something weird like shooting trees or crouching in a river where anything could eat her. She didn’t even see him sitting on the ground, leaning against a tree, sharpening his blade with his sharpening stone. Eyes watching her as she ducked down to splash her face with the smallest of grins across his lips. ”You really suck at knowing your surroundings, Ella.” The teasing lilt to his tone was obvious, speaking just loud enough that it could possibly startle her if she wasn’t paying attention.

[googlefont="Herr Von Muellerhoff:400"] we are lost and we're falling Being tired helped contribute to Zee being completely unaware of Logan's presence. The fact that she didn't consider him a threat probable helped with the whole not noticing him thing. After all, it wasn't like he was a vesper or a giant worm that was trying to eat her. He was Logan. Prince Charming. Knight in Shining Armor, and a plethora of other aliases. Still, when he spoke she jumped like a spooked rabbit and spun around to face him, even though her brain was already registering his voice as one she already knew and shouldn't be afraid of.
"Jesus, Logan!" She huffed. "Do you always have to do that?" She rubbed her wet hands on the legs of her shorts, still frowning at him. He disappeared without a trace sometime during the Scorch and she hadn't seen him since. How come she always ended up running into him in the middle of absolutley no where? And how come he always caught her when she wasn't paying attention? He had the absolute worst timing of anyone she had ever met.
The horse lifted its head and turned away from the river, which was Zee's cue that it was finished drinking. She led the animal to where Logan sat sharpening his knife. "What are you doing out here?" She looped the reins around a low branch then promptly sat down next to Prince Charming. "I haven't seen you since the Scorch. It's good to know that you weren't burned to death, starved to death, beaten to death, dehydrated to death," She counted off on her fingers. "...or died .... in any other horrific and extremely painful way."

How Are You Even Still Alive? His respons eto her asking why he always snuck up on her was just a snort of a laugh, his eyes scanning over her before lowering to the sharpening of his blade. Despite everything, it was good to see her. It was always good to see her. She was the most uncomplicated person he had yet to meet on the planet, and the only one that seemed to not want to beat him up. Attention flickering to her horse as she walked him over, before he nodded to the spot beside him for her to sit.
“It is good to see none of those things have happened to you as well. I’m here because I’m here. I never really go anywhere with much reasons after all. I like the river sounds. It is…” Logan paused for a moment to think of the proper word before smiling up at her genuinely. “Relaxing. It is good to see you, I miss you cooking for me. Speaking of which, got any food?“ Because apparently that is the only thing he would admit to missing about someone. “What is new, Ella? Anything life altering happen in the past few weeks”
Logan really knew very little about her life outside of him. Whether that had to be because he just didn’t care, or because he figured he was the most important thing on her life, was up for negotiation. To get away from the thoughts that had been plaguing him lately, he decided perhaps focusing on his newly arrived friend might help a bit. Even if he was never one for small-talk.

[googlefont="Herr Von Muellerhoff:400"] we are lost and we're falling The trunk of the tree that Logan was leaning against was wide enough for Zee to lean against it as well. She tilted her head back and stared up at the branches and little patches of blue sky that peeked through the gaps in the foliage. Her head lolled to the side and she looked at Logan, grinning. "I can take care of myself." She said. "So I won't starve to death." But he already knew that because she'd trapped food and cooked for him when he'd lived with her those couple of weeks dring the Scorch. Still, she suspected that he thought she was totally and utterly incapable of doing anything at all -- he wouldn't be the first to have that opinion.
"You should smile more." She caught herself saying when Logan smiled at her, but she already assumed that he would just brush her comment off. "It makes you look nicer. More approachable. More like Prince Charming and less like Shrek." Her eyes stayed on him for a second before she looked back up at the sky, chuckling. "My cooking?" Oh, there had to be more than just her cooking that he missed. Like her company, because she liked to think that she was pretty entertaining.
"Actually..." Zee pushed herself up off the ground and walked to where she'd tied her horse up. Tucked into one of the saddle bags she had two MREs and a couple of carrots that she'd snagged from one of the gardens on her way out. She turned the package over in her hads to see which one it was -- something she should have done before she'd packed them. "I hope you like chili mac." She walked back over, dropped the packaged food in his lap, then sat back down next to him. "They're not the best, but I guess its better than starving to death."
His next question caught her off guard and she couldn't hide it. Anything life altering? Zee's mind immediately conjured up an image of Jaron that had her blushing and Logan was definitely perceptive enough to see it and know something was up. "...uhh." Her gaze was fixed on the tree branches above them again. "Yeah, I think so." She finally admitted and hoped that Logan would leave it at that. "What about you?"

How Are You Even Still Alive? He may tease her like crazy about how incompetent she was, but that’s all it was. Teasing. He knew that yes, while she was shooting a tree she was hitting her target like perfect. And she was definitely a better trapper than him, not that he would ever, ever, say that out loud. When she turned her head and was grinning at him, he actually rolled his eyes before her comment about him smiling more.
A snort was heard, before his smile grew even more. “Now Cinderella, I can’t go around flashing this dazzling smile around, the ladies wouldn’t be able to handle it.” Then he winked playfully at her before a placement of food landed in his lap. “You are a godsend. Why did I ever leave your side” He was already ripping into it, and shovelled food into his mouth unceremoniously.
After taking a large bite, something in her voice caught his attention and his eyes raised from where they lay attentive at the nasty mac and cheese. Was she blushing? He studied her face, one brow arching as it always did when he was pondering something. “Who is he? Better not be some pansy ass boy.” The last part was mumbled, and then half under his breath he muttered something like ‘I’ll kill him’, and completely ignored her question about if anything life altering had happened. Nothing of interest ever happened in his life, except getting his ass kicked, which was never new

[googlefont="Herr Von Muellerhoff:400"] we are lost and we're falling "If your dazzling smile doesn't make them weak in the knees your modesty sure will." Zee fired back, grinning widely. Logan was anything but modest, and while it might be off putting for some, she found it amusing. A little charming, even, once she got used to it. Honestly, the first time she met him she wanted to kick him in the knee for scaring her, but even then talking to him had been shockingly easy and the banter had been friendly. Somewhere along the way she'd started to think of him as a friend, which was reason enough for her to not mind sharing food -- or a cave -- with him.
"Because you're stubborn and ..." Was the answer to his question of Why did I ever leave your side? But her voice trailed when Logan ripped into the package and started eating it right away. "You must be hungry." She said, her nose wrinkling as she watched. "You're ... not going to heat it up? It would probably taste better .... and look less like dog food." But, it wasn't her choice to make. Logan was a grown man who was capable of taking care of himself, except perhaps, when it came to filling his belly.
Logan's reaction to her yeah, I think so had her attention snapping right back to him, her eyes wide and a small smirk playing at her features despite the, now fading blush that colored her face. "Are you serious right now?" She asked, amused. If she hadn't known any better she would have assumed he was jealous, but she did know better. "Are you being all protective?" He could deny it all he wanted, but she'd heard it in his voice and had heard something sounding far too similar to I'll kill him.

How Are You Even Still Alive? The only response to her calling him modest was a half snort, half laugh. Ignoring the offer of heating up the food. It tasted like shit cold. It tasted like shit warm. Just…One was a hell of a lot quicker. He shoved food into his face without a care in the world, his finger pointing up at her as if ‘Hold on a second’. “I am not stubborn. I am just…Always right.” He didn’t even lift his head to look at her, but it was obvious that he had that same stupid grin he always had. “I am not being protective. I just..” Was he being protective? The urge to beat the shit out of some guy who he didn’t know was almost overwhelming. But it wasn’t jealousy. Not in the least. It was …Damn maybe she was right. Maybe he was protective of her. Not that he would admit that after just saying that he was always right. Couldn’t be proven wrong so soon after. No, he was too stubborn for that. “It’s just that I thought we were going to get married and have a wollop of children and live in your cave and you will take care of me, and cook me dinner every night and yet still allow me to sleep with all the women I want. This pansy ass is sort of putting a dent in my plans for us Ella. I don't like it.”

[googlefont="Herr Von Muellerhoff:400"] we are lost and we're falling One eyebrow quirked upward when Logan held his finger up to as if he were silencing her. She waited and when he finally did speak she snorted. Always right? "Except for when you're wrong." Zee replied. "Like right now. And when you left." Her head tilted ever so slightly. "And don't bother denying it, because you know you were wrong to leave. If you had stayed you'd have good food to eat instead of dog food." Her nose wrinkled when she glanced down at the packet that Logan was shoveling food out of. She still had plenty of them stocked away and only ate them on the off chance that she hadn't been able to catch anything to eat. Having to survive strictly off of MREs was something she wanted to avoid.
Of course he denied being protective, Zee expected nothing less from the man she was beginning to thing was just a big pushover. She grinned and leaned closer to him. "I think you are being protective." She teased and, because she just couldn't seem to stop herself, she reached up to tap him on the nose with her index finger. "That's so cute. Logan being protective of little ol' me..."
"...married .... wallop of children .... cook me dinner every night..."
Wait. What?
For a bit the only thing Zee could do was stare at Logan, her expression reading something like 'you're joking, right?'. But that expression faded because he was definitely screwing with her, but that was okay because she could play the same game. "Hmm, well. I guess that's one option. But I think I rather the one where you sweep me off my feet, and we ride off into the sunset and spend the rest of our lives professing our undying love for one another. I would stay home and care for our wallop of children while you hunted to provide for them..." She paused, looking thoughtful for a minute. "But I guess I would have to teach you how to trap. So, maybe you would stay home with the kids while I provided food."

How Are You Even Still Alive? “I am a beautiful stallion, Ella. I cannot be tied down to one spot.” His comment would have been amusing, if he hadn’t been speaking while he shovel the nasty food into his mouth. Yeah. Beautiful. Then he tossed the package aside, and leaned back against the tree again to look towards her. “I am not protective. I just don’t…Don’t want you with some idiot. And I can sweep you off your feet, I could if I wanted and you wouldn’t even be able to handle yourself. I’m charming as fuck, you see.” He winked, just to prove his point before he wiped at his face to clear it free of bits of food. “You couldn’t handle being in love with me. Apparently you probably like pansy asses that you can take care of.” He cleared his throat, sitting up straight and got ready for his impression of her “Oh no! I will pull you out of this pit of doom and be your savior because you are a pansy ass and I love pansy asses.” No more distraction with food, he glanced around as if looking for more before bringing his attention solely to Ella. “Also. I totally know how to trap, I just let you feel superior. Because I’m nice.” Riiiight. Last time he trapped he caught a human. And then, his amusement seemed to diminish as his gaze moved away from her to look towards the water. “I did missed you though. I think you should know.”
