 You Are My Sunshine My Only Sunshine... Twilight. What a beautiful time. The scorching sol was hidden below the horizon, taking with it not only it’s light but also the wretched heat that singed everything in sight. Yet the temperature was not as low as one would of wished, it still caused the air to seem to stick to you. Still caused one to just pray for a jump in a freezing cold pool of water. But, at least it was bearable. At least you could escape from the darkness of the cave, even if it was just to enter into the darkness of the world. At least out here, the fresh air, even as hot as it was, provided relief and the moonlight caused enough light that you could walk without hesitation.
Logan had taken in the surroundings only briefly, listening to the overwhelming silence for any sign of brushing or steps. He had learned the hard way that the creatures in this world were not quite like those on Earth. PE had a habit of randomly throwing giant fucking alien worms at you, and so he was taking no chances. Although the night was still, it seemed the cool temperatures did bring out the nature around, as he could see the shadow of birds in the pale navy sky above. That was good, actually quite perfect for what he had planned. As long as no giant creatures came running after him again, he would be content.
Water.
In the scorch filled day, it was the one thing he knew would be needed most. It was the one thing he knew would be most difficult to find. Perhaps if he had been with the colony he would have a bit more of a reserve, unfortunately he had never even bothered. Rules. Regulation. Disorganized organization. A world of population so used to dependence, that the mere thought of independence frightened them to the point where they had to assign leadership roles – Watcher? Really? Why not just state it as a judge jury and executioner. No. He’d much rather rely on the only one he could ever really count on, himself. Besides, most of the people he had randomly come across from the colony seemed rather…naïve.
One woman was out in the woods just firing off bullets for mere fun!
Foolish people.
With the drop points, at best, intermittent and unreliable, preserves should be kept. Instead she was off firing like an idiot.
Logan was leaving the safety of his worm hole of a cave, in search of the one thing he knew he would need to find. And as quickly as possible. Obviously the river near the base of the mountain at the edge of the forest that he passed on the way here would be barren. There was no way the river would have managed to escape death from the sol, it’s heat would evaporate any of it. So the only place he could look was within the mountain, hopefully to an internal spring. Something where the sun could not reach, and preferably it was not protected buy some humongous spider. He hated spiders.
So he walked, upwards of the base of the mountain and from the cave he had designated as his own solo home. He walked silently, waiting to see if he could hear a whisper of a creek or trickle of a river somewhere in the depths of the forest. Perhaps there was a hidden cave with an underground cavern of beautiful cooling water? The only way to find out, would be to explore, alone.

 It seemed like days since JJ had left the safety of her cave down near Exurbia and started her trek towards the mountains. She had been one of the last to leave the now scorched camp, and JJ was very much looking forward to reaching her destination. Though she was in possibly the best shape of her life (colonizing a new planet would do that to you), JJ was exhausted after the hours of walking. She hadn’t dared stop as she was unsure how long walking to the mountains would take her.
Her journey had been - surprisingly uneventful. She hadn’t seen any of the terrifying, and often interesting animals which inhabited PE. JJ chalked that up to the death rays that had been beaming down on PE. The animals native to this planet obviously knew what was going on, and she assumed that the majority of them had already fled to the safety of the mountains. JJ had not seen another living soul on her trek and she was glad. Being alone meant that no one was trying to kill or eat her.
She had attempted to stay rather silent as she moved along, but in the quiet of the night the sound of her breathing was easy to hear. One foot in front of the other, JJ kept telling herself as she moved along. She knew she was nearing the mountains, and hopefully the camp and she was anxious to get there before the sun came up so she wouldn’t be singed.
As she moved along, JJ caught sight of something out of the corner of her eye and she froze. She hadn’t been silent, and JJ assumed that whoever or whatever else was out there had heard her. If they hadn’t heard her, they probably hadn’t been paying attention. Her hand immediately flew to the knife at her belt, and once again JJ wished that the powers that be would drop her goddamn gun and ammo already. She felt naked, and not nearly as safe without her fire arm.
Taking a step backward, JJ searched the dark landscape frantically for another hint of the flash she had seen out of the corn of her eye.

You Are My Sunshine My Only Sunshine... He was not so focused on the search for a stream that he did not hear the obvious signs of another in the stillness of the night. While he had hoped to find the sound of a trickling creek, instead he heard the sound of one breathing much too loudly for being in the wilderness. Curiosity got the best of him, and he headed towards the sound, his feet maneuvering soundlessly against the wilderness floor before he caught sight of the human. A rather breathless woman, amongst the darkness of twilight, and for some instance he found her quite amusing – Walking about by herself, without a care of what could be around her except. Ah. A blade. The twinkle of the steel was very apparent. Apparently she had more of her wits about her than he had originally assumed.
Logan stepped out of the shadows, enough that he was not hidden in the darkness anymore. Holding his hands up, with his palms out and his fingers splayed, the nomad grinned towards her. ”Careful now. I rather like staying in one piece” The amusement trickled into his tone, showing as much how unthreatening she was to him. After all, if someone could barely walk without gasping out some breaths than it was highly doubtful she had maneuver of a blade. Little did he know she was a watcher of the colonies. “At least you have a bother to have yourself armed. A little out of shape? If I could hear you from yards away, I am sure any rustling predator would as well.”
Forgetting, if not momentarily about his search for water, he stepped a bit closer to her and lowered his hand. ”Perhaps you are lost? You do seem a tad..out of place..in the woods. Alerting everything around you to your whereabouts. I suppose you are used to the city life?” He was starting to find more and more people coming to the mountains, luckily more so than he had assumed would be smart enough to come here. He had heard and seen some from the colony migrating this way, so at least some leader for them had their wits about having to head to where the most brush and caves would be. Still, he didn’t think he would run into someone so clearly out of their element. Or perhaps he was just making assumptions based on the fact she was obviously unceremonious about her situation.
She may not have brains, but after a quick glance he could tell at least she had beauty. That was perhaps something.

JJ wasn’t overly surprised when a man stepped out of the shadows. Most of the animals had already fled to the mountains so she would have been more surprised if it had been some tiger yeti combination coming to eat her. ” As long as you behave you’ll stay in one piece. “ JJ replied, her tone was sharp, voice clear. JJ snorted when he mentioned her being armed. ” If the fucking powers that be would get the drops together there’d be a gun pointed at you right now. “ She replied matter of factly. The truth was, JJ was really missing her firearm right now.
The second part of his comment made her huff. Sure she had been breathing heavily but she’d been basically power walking for hours. ”Well I wasn’t trying to hide myself. “ She snapped back, clearly offended by his insinuation that she was out of shape. JJ wanted to make another snappy comment about how she was booking it for the mountains because she was afraid the sun was going to come up before she could make it there and cook her where she stood, but instead she settled for glaring at the man from her current spot.
When he stepped closer to her, JJ really wanted to take a step backward but she forced herself to stay exactly where she was. She didn’t want him to think she was afraid of him, because she wasn’t. His next comment made her roll her eyes, ”Oh yes, definitely. Born and raised city girl right here. “ Her tone was completely sarcastic. If you counted Iraq and army bases as city life, than yes JJ supposed that she was a city girl but that was more then this guy needed to know. Let him think what he wanted. ” If you were booking it from Exurbia at hyper speed you might be a little out of breath too. Cut a girl a break will you?” She continued, her voice still snarky and sarcastic.
Her hand still gripped her knife, and JJ kept every muscle in her body tensed as she stared at him. There wasn’t a chance in hell she was going to take even one eye off of this guy. So far he hadn’t tried to attack her, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to eventually try to jump her and rob her.
” Is there something you need or are you going to just going to keep me here until the sun comes up and we both roast alive?” She replied, wanted to glance towards the horizon but not wanted to look away from him.

You Are My Sunshine My Only Sunshine... "Is there a reason you are threatening my life over and over again? Maybe I should make a complaint to the colony police type people and state I felt threatened and wish to file charges?”
After all, wasn’t that what the colony was all for? Attempting to maintain control on a planet where there really was not any control. No one even knew anything about this planet except it had edibles and air to breathe. The scientists barely had enough time to calculate that much information before shipping the humans off the dying planet. That being said, his words held a bit of sarcasm, his smile showing he was simply joking around with her and to not take it too seriously.
And instead of feeling threatened like she did, for some reason, he was more relaxed against the tree until she mentioned that they would burn alive soon. With a quick glance to the horizon, his thoughts swore at himself. Perhaps that was a bit more accurate than he had thoughtso. If she had travelled from whatever place she said, Exopia? Or whatever, then the sun would definitely be raising sooner than he had thought. It was his fault, he had been way too determined to find water. Something he was running way too low on, and definitely something that was needed. From what he heard, even the colony had not yet found any.
”I was looking for water. I guess I lost track of time, lucky for you though I did not lose track of where safety is. So you can continue here, huffing and puffing and thinking I’m going to murder your for absolutely no reason – Or you can follow me and I can take you to my home. I doubt you will get to the colony from here in time, but it is totally up to you. I personally do not like the idea of burning alive, no more than I like the idea of messing up my only shirt with killing you. You know, cause I’m humane. And not an axe murderer. “Specially cause you know..”
Pausing he pushed away from the tree he had been leaning on to start walking back the way he came. ”I have no axe. It’s an hour back to my safety, probably can make it in time. If you can actually manage to keep up” Another dig at her being out of shape. Because, well, why not? Half the people that lived here would probably not make it past the scorch, so there was really no need to get too close. After all, probably only one of the people he had met would make it long – Maybe two. And to him, the colony was a wait towards disaster. Sticking together rarely worked, which was an ironic thought as he offered to help a random stranger who continued to threaten him as if he was nothing. Probably because he was a nomad.
