| BANG!
"Hmm." Zee hummed to herself as she looked through the rifle scope at the target she'd set up. She couldn't help but think that she should have packed some targets in the crate with her rifle ammo so sighting it in would have been easier, but she hadn't. She was stuck shooting at a rough target she'd carved into a tree trunk and straining to see where her bullets hit. When she finally found where it hit she shighed and lifted her head. "Low to the right." She murmured and shifted into a sitting position. "So I'm gonna bring it up to... no, let's try three clicks... and to the left four." She uncovered the protective caps on the scope and made the adjustments then laid down in the grass again.
"It's nine o'clock on a Saturday." She began to sing quietly to herself because the silence her shooting had caused was deafening. She rested the rifle on a log to help steady it as she peered through the scope and lined up her target again. She had anticipated that the sights would be off when she finally got it in because of the jostling of transport, but it didn't seem to be as far off as she'd assumed it would. "La da da da, something, something tonic and gin." She chambered another round and lapsed into silence as she focused on the task at hand. She took a breath and let it out slowly, and as she did she squeezed the trigger.
BANG!
Zee was in no way a marksman, but she didn't have to be one to enjoy shooting. It had been a good hobby and an excellent way to pas time. She absolutely loved the way her rifle felt as she pressed it against her sholder, and even the way it kicked when she fired it was something that she enjoyed. She stayed in the scope until she found where her second round had hit and she had to admit that she was pleased. It wasn't dead center bulls-eye, but it was close enough that if she had to shoot something to defend herself it would be a critical hit.
But one more shot couldn't hurt.
She slid the bold back, the empty round popped out and she chambered a third. "Well, I'm sure that I could be a movie star, if I could get outta this place." She continued to sing to herself as she lined up her third shot and once she did she was silent again. A breath in. Slow breath out. A gentle squeeze of the trigger.
BANG!

Let's Shoot At Trees Because Why Not… Damn woman was absolutely crazy. Logan grumbled to himself after having barely gotten any sleep, already in a slightly irritable mood. So far his trip across lands was less than ideal, although to be fair he has been in worst situations. His boots moved along the ground with ease, inspite of the unevenness of the forest floor. His first ‘night’ on this atrocious land he had been assaulted twice, nay, three times by the same psychotic woman with split personalities and he had yet to run into anyone else. Thankfully. That being said, he probably should head towards the cluster of people, see what he could snag. Even if that sounded less than ideal.
It’s not that he hated people, he just never understood them. They got so riled up about absolutely every--- BANG. Logan sidestepped and hid behind a tree as the shot echoed loudly around him. Whatever sounds nature had been making burst into a clatter before only stillness remained. Logan got low to the ground, his eyes scanning across the area before he maneuvered to another tree. His tan and green clothing blending in with his surroundings. The man moved deliberately before he heard another loud shot rang off. What kind of idiot would be shooting around a dense forest? To be fair, he was in the middle of no where but still..Normally people set their targets up in a clearing to avoid accidentally shooting an innocent. Like himself. He was innocent. Sort of.
Another shot echoed around him just as he moved to take another step – His eyes now focused onto the target that was no more than ten feet from where he was standing. Logan grumbled to himself before grabbing his blue shirt out, and began to flag it into the air so that whomever was shooting out here would hopefully sight him. Unless they were too focused. Too unused too shooting in pure isolation. He waited a beat, two, before he figured perhaps someone had actually halted their firing. He moved out of the hiding spot of the tree just as another shot rang out into the air.
Are you fucking kidding me?
Without even thinking of any repercussions, Logan did what any sane person would do in this situation. He screamed. Screamed as if he was in pure agony. Mimicking that of what he’d heard of others who had been shot through the leg as he collapsed to the ground and grabbed at his leg. His scream echoed out into the sudden silence, piercing through the air before he let out a groan, just loud enough it would be heard by the invisible shooter.

| The whole point in going out away from the colonies was so that she would be able to shoot comfortably without worrying about a stray bullet hitting someone. The point of shooting at a tree was because it would stop the bullet where shooting at anything else the bullet would likely blow through the target and keep traveling. Zee knew what the effective range of her rifle was and she had no intention of putting anyone in danger. Of course she hadn't anticipated that someone would be walking around the area that she had chosen to shoot in, nor had she anticipated that they would be stupid enough to go looking for the sound of gunfire if there were anyone around.
The scream scared the hell out of her.
Zee had been so focused on her target that she had failed to notice Logan and his blue shirt that he'd been waving around. She was positive that she hadn't seen anyone step into her line of sight before she'd pulled the trigger, and she was positive that the rounds couldn't have made it through the tree. The trunk was far too thick and she'd only shot three times. It would take a whole lot more than that to blast through the tree trunk and hit someone behind it. Still, her heart was hammering in her chest and her breath was coming in short bursts because what if she did hit someone?
She jumped up from where she'd been laying, chambered another round -- because what if she had hit a creature instead of a person -- and clicked the safety on. Zee picked her way slowly toward the tree she'd been using as a target and as she got closer she could see a man laying on the ground clutching his leg. Oh god. The color drained from her face and her hands suddenly felt ice cold as she stared dumbly at the man on the ground. What did you say in a situation like this? Sorry I accidentally shot you?
But she was positive that she hadn't seen him in her scope.
And he wasn't even laying in front of her target.
That realization made her finally look at his leg, which was suspiciously not oozing, spraying, or gushing blood anywhere, and his hands which were also blood free. Then she looked at her target and counted all three bullet holes. Okay, so ... he was either faking or maybe a piece of bark had flown off and struck his leg? She was more inclined to believe that he was faking. Zee frowned as she turned her gaze back to the man on the ground, her panic and fear changing into annoyance. "Why don't you stop faking and get up." She suggested.

Let's Shoot At Trees Because Why Not… It wasn’t as if he was rolling around on the ground, now that would just be foolish. Well, more foolish than the scream he had emitted. To be honest, the little break and laying on the ground was quite nice, especially since his last rest stop he had the shit beaten out of him. When the girl approached, he could see the instant anxiety and worry on her face before it was replaced with something quite the opposite in the emotions field. Okay, perhaps he shouldn’t have done that, but to be fair it wasn’t entirely his fault that she had been so panicked. After all, she should know where she was firing, or at least know her own scope enough to know it wouldn’t have suddenly gone so far off course.
Logan leaned up so he was still laying, but his elbows propped him up before he flashed a small grin towards the girl. ” You know, you really should have a better idea of your surroundings instead of locking yourself just to what is in your scope. Maybe then you wouldn’t have been as white as a ghost when you came on up here?” His chin jutted towards her rifle ever so slightly before he shifted up and with ease maneuvered onto his feet. What he was expecting was definitely not that of a female, but perhaps that was because he was being a bit of a chauvinist. To be fair, he had met two people, both women, and both had deadly weapons
The last woman he ran into with a gun pointed it at him one too many times, and him being sprawled on the ground was less than ideal. Who knows how many personalities this chick had. Yes, perhaps he was a tiny bit biased on the opinion that all the women on PE were insane-gun toting-maniacs. “But honestly, I just need to head that way,” He paused and pointed horizontal across the forest past her targets,”And I’d rather not walk all the way around just to ensure I do not get shot. Because, you know, that’s a tad inconvenient. I must ask though, why are you wasting your bullets?”

| Zee raised an eyebrow as the man sat up and proceeded to tell her that she needed to be more aware of her surroundings and not so locked in on what was in her scope. Seriously? She wanted to kick him in his stupid face for scaring her like he had and for talking to her like she was dumb. She'd handled guns long enough to know what she was doing and she'd checked the area out before she'd set up and started shooting. "It's not my fault you're dumb enough to walk toward gunfire." She shot back. "Normal people tend to avoid it. Y'know. So they don't get shot." But so far no one she'd met on PE had been normal. Not even Jaron.
When the man moved to stand up she didn't step back to give him any more room than what he already had. Doing so would have likely given him the impression that she was easily pushed around and that he was the dominant force, when he wasn't. He was just a man that screamed like a girl because he wanted to scare girls, also known as a jerk or a douche bag if one didn't feel that 'jerk' was fitting enough. "Do you always go around the forest screaming like a sorority girl that just broke a nail?" She asked before she could stop herself. But it wasn't like she cared whether or not she offended the guy who had just scared the living hell out of her. She actually kind wished she had shot him because then he wouldn't have been grinning at her.
Oh well, there was always next time.
"Sounds like you're exceptionally lazy." Zee deadpanned at his explanation about not wanting to go around, but she could understand. There were days when she was out doing her thing that she took shortcuts to get back to Exurbia because she was tired of walking. She just didn't purposely scare anyone she happened upon. "Who are you, anyway? And what's so important about that way?" Not that it was any of her business, but he could at least tell her that much after scaring her. His quiestion had her tilting her head, her expression dumbfounded. "If you know of another way to sight a rifle in I'd love to know."

Let's Shoot At Trees Because Why Not… It was odd, it really was. The difference of this world and Earth. Back on Earth, you could walk through a forest and not meet a single soul – And yet he had met two in just as many eves. You could walk down a busy street, and collide head first into another because you were so busy glancing at your own feet, and still no words would be exchanged. Drink along side a room full of strangers, all dancing and listening to the same tunes, and barely a smile would be reciprocated. And now? He was getting scolded by some midget of a woman all because she had too focused tunnel vision to notice a gentleman close enough to the targets. It wasn’t his fault she was scatter brained and could have shot his head off.
To be honest, he could have hollered out a warning – That was a bit slow on his part. But that wouldn’t have been quite as amusing as screaming, how did she put it? Oh yes! ‘Like a Sorority girl’! Ha! “Have you ever actually broken a nail? It is rather painful, and not only sorority girls would scream at that pain.” His right eyebrow arched se as he looked down at her, amusement crossing over his features – Showing that he noted exactly how short she was in that little expression. She must be barely taller than he was when he was a babe!
”Well..Aren’t you a nosey..little..lady? Do you always fire off questions to someone just minding his way along?” His brows furrowed for just a moment as he looked away from her to look in the direction he was heading too. Towards the mountains. There had been something bothering him. He knew he should go to the colony, for whatever reason, but something was pulling him to the mountains and he never doubted his instincts. Instincts are what kept a man a live, especially in an unknown land with known qualities. How much did they really know about this planet? About the atmosphere? This heat seemed to be ever increasing, and just as he thought it would break, it just seemed to get…worse.
Taking a step away from the tiny woman, he put his one arm with a stiff fist behind his back, and infront of his abdomen. ”You may call me Charming, Prince Charming.” And although the bow was stiff, it was absolutely perfect before he flashed a smile her way. ”And if you must know…” The entertained expression disappeared momentarily.”I have no idea why I should head to the mountains. I’ve noticed the animals, they are heading that way. The brush thickens as well. It seems, nature is informing me that way is…” He paused for a moment, eyes glancing away from her face towards where he was heading again as if searching for the right words in the nothingness around him. His eyes noting the tiniest of birds in the sky, flying in the same direction as he was looking. ”Safety.”

RANDOM EVENT READ & REACT A leech-bird (see here) crashes through the trees and dies dramatically at your feet. With its neck fully extended, it is about six feet tall, though they tend to walk hunched while on the ground. This is the first time one of these creatures has been seen, but its kind will appear more during the Scorch. Zephira Crichton Logan Street

| Logan's comeback about broken nails along with the arched eyebrow and hte amused look that flashed across his face made Zee lift her head in a defiant manner. There was no doubt in her mind that he was amused at the fact that he had to look down at her and she had to look up at him. There had been so many times back on Earth where she'd been told that she was cute because of her height. If he said anything of the sort she'd kick him squarely in his balls and show him just how cute she really was.
When he finally did speak again he called her little and she snorted. Well he was very original, wasn't he? "Only when lumbering giants wander into my shooting range and pretend like I shot them, which by the way, if it happens again I really will shoot you." She raised an eyebrow and the corner of her mouth quirked upward into a grin which would leave someone who didn't know her whether or not she was serious. As he looked away she followed his gaze to the mountains. She still had not made it there to check them out, but there really hadn't been any kind of urgency for the explorers to really venture out without the supplies necessary to help keep them alive. Now that she had protection, though, reaching the mountains was going to be her top priority.
Zee's attention was drawn back to Logan as he introduced himself as 'Prince Charming'. She slung the rifle over her shoulder and curtsied. "You can call me Cinderella." She replied, but said nothing more because he had begun to answer her previous question. She began to frown at the mention of the animals heading north. Honestly, she had noticed that there were fewer in the areas surrounding the colony, but she had just attributed that to them realizing that they were being hunted for food. It was like back on Earth, deer in the woods were plentiful until hunting season rolled around and they all disappeared or became more active at night. How could she miss that they were moving toward hte mountains.
No sooner had Prince Charming said that the mountains were safety something came crashing through the trees. "Shit!" Came her startled cry as she unceremoniously jumped closer to the man who had, only minutes before, been someone that she'd wanted to kick in the shin. She stared at the giant bird creature on the ground, half expecting it to jump up and try to attack them, but it was still. "What the hell is that?"

Let's Shoot At Trees Because Why Not… A cross thought about shooting at a giant – You’d think someone would actually see a giant clearly? Perhaps she did not see the irony in her statement, but it was not for him to comment. Instead amusement crossed his features as he looked at the little lady curtsy and exclaim that she went by the name of Cinderella. ”Well then, Tis my utmost pleasure to meet you. Perhaps this was fate after all” Amusement and a small smirk crossed his lips, before something quite abrupt interrupted their little chit chat, and something that definitely was not expected.
A loud screech and a loud crashing came, and as Cinderella jumped closer to him he instinctively put his forearm across her abdomen to push her slightly behind him. His feet sidestepping infront of her ever so slightly in a protective stand. His other hand moved in the blink of an eye, as the weird creature laid still yet – Not taking any chances- his blade flung from his hand and embedded itself in the long neck. Still the creature did not move, not even the littlest bit of a flinch. Thankfully it died, somehow.
“Bloody ugly ass bird is what it is” Was his response as he stared down at the stilled mutant bird. Logan took a step forward and crouched down to stare at it’s deformed head before unceremoniously grabbed the hilt and wretched the blade from it’s neck. Studying it’s body for any movement before whipping the blade clean on it’s featherless body. The weird leech type face, where a beak would normally be, was simply a mouth with vicious teeth a little too large for comfort. This was the very first time he had seen such a creature, Glancing upwards at her he grinned half heartedly, ”But atleast I have dinner. I’m sure it isn’t poisonous. But one must wonder, Cinderella” The name strolled off his tongue with ease before he continued to speak ” how exactly this creature died? There is no indication.”
He grabbed his rope from his sack, and quickly maneuvered the beast so that the wings wrapped around itself before he tied it tightly with his rope. That was the curious thing really. How did the creature die? There were no markings on it, there was no obvious harm done to the creature – Well, minus the stabbing of the neck, but that was post mortem.

| It was a flurry of movement -- the bird crashing from the sky, her jumping, Prince Charming pushing her back and stepping in front of her as if he meant to protect her. She peered out from behind his shoulder at the bird and found that he had also managed to throw a knife at it. The sheer size of the creature was intimidating, but even more so was its face. Logan moved toward it, but Zee stayed rooted in place partially convinced that it wasn't really dead, that it was playing possum while it waited for the perfect opportunity to jump up and devour them. But when Logan wrenched the knife from its neck and it didn't move or even utter a sound she finally relented to the idea that it was really dead. Nothing could have stayed that still or that quiet after having a knife pulled out of its flesh.
"Definitely ugly." She finally agreed as she looked up to the sky. It was mostly blocked out by the treetops, but the gaps of shy she did see revealed absolutely nothing. "Do you think it was alone, or....?" Her voice trailed and her gaze fell back to Logan as he declared that he had dinner. What? Her nose wrinkled at the idea of eating something that had fallen out of the sky dead. "Don't survivalists, y'know, say not to eat something that you found dead?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. "Its probably diseased or something. And who knows what an alien disease will do to you. It might ... I dunno. Turn you into a mushroom. Or kill you. That would be really inconvenient since you're wanting to to to the mountains for safety" She crossed her arms and frowned, hoping that she'd made her point.
Eugh.
Any other time Zee would have offered her help with tying up the creature, but she didn't want to touch it because she didn't know what had killed it. Better safe than sorry. She did begin to wonder, though, if Prince Charming had been joking or if he was actually so hungry that he had been serious about using it for food. "Look." she said a moment later. "I have some extra food back at my place... dried meat and stuff. You can have some of it if you want. Just take it and go to the mountains."

Let's Shoot At Trees Because Why Not… Her absolute disgust that he could possibly eat something that fell from the sky had him barely hide his amusement. Of course, he definitely did not want an alien disease and to turn into a mushroom – They were quite ugly after all – But he highly doubted it was from a disease. If it was, they would find much more alongside it. No, it was probably a young one that was left behind, or late on its journey. He had seen many first thing in the morning, although not knowing at the time exactly how grotesque they were, flying in a pack over the mountains already. With a quick glance around he could easily tell there were no more in the area. Alien diseases to turn into a mushroom were highly unlikely.
”The amount of heat in the sky probably was the culprit. Keep in mind, we are boiling down here already, and with the heat increasing by the minute and majority of it’s family probably already in the mountains…I am about 99% positive it was heat. In the sky, its probably even worse. But..” He paused before grinning up towards her from his crouched position as he bent to pick up one strap and stood upwards. Towering over her short frame – Boy! She really was so small. Part of him had to hold back from using her as an arm rest, mainly because he was sure she would topple over at the mere weight of his arm. ”If you are so very concerned for me, I will promise to use it as bait instead. Wouldn’t want you to be crushed if my beautiful self turned into a mushroom head after all. It’d be a shame and a great loss to the world.”Another flash of his pearly whites. What a charming twinkling beautiful smile he has. Twinkle Twinkle. Sparkle Sparkle.
The mere idea that she would give him some of her food, without anything in return, gave way to curiosity. He considered it for a moment, his eyes flashing back towards where camp was. It was quite a hike between there and here, and being around all those people really did not attract him. “As much as I would enjoy having dinner with you Ella,” His tone held just enough amusement to let her know he knew she didn’t actually ask him out on a date, before continuing on; ” I am in sort of a hurry, I think. Do you always waste your bullets and offer out free food? You people in the colony are an odd bunch aren’t you? No. I think bait and the mountains are where is best. You can stay here… I guess, and fire off your limited rounds into nothingness although, after seeing this beautiful huge carnivorous leech type thing that can easily rip your head off, I’m assuming you will be smarter now. Well. Hopefully. ”
